This is the 11th festival and it condenses seven projects into two weeks of dance, circus and concerts. It will be held in Ixelles and Etterbeek. Despite its name being just a letter, it contains a variety of stories and different forms. The D is a festival on a human scale whose aim is to support encounters with Brussels-based choreographic artists and dancers whose origins are as varied as their careers and aesthetics. The D Festival 2023 is proud to be a stage for Pierre Larauza and Emmanuelle Vincent, Faraja Batumike, Lucas Katangila, Thi Mai Nguyen, Sara Lemaire, Paola di Bella and Hippolyte Bohouo. These artists share an organic approach, an inspired momentum, an engagement, a rebellion, a vital need for expression through the body. The D allows people to see and feel, hear and reflect; it is generous and unifying, singular and universal. It explores the multiplicity of movements, of words, the dream of becoming a dancer in a hostile environment, the convergence of contemporary visual language and ritual, rebellion, the origins of humanity; it envisages a future collapse in a circus tale that has a frenzied aesthetic. Naturally it calls on dance – traditional, contemporary, aerial and acrobatic – but also on music, theatre and contemporary circus (contortion, the Cyr wheel and the pole). It is being held on the two multidisciplinary stages of the Marni and Senghor theatres and, through its collaboration with Garage 29 and Divagation, also offers an opportunity to discover a third unusual location very close to Place Flagey: La Maison Verte. The 11th D Festival runs from 24 January to 9 February 2023.
