In a nutshell – and, yes, these are big words – Zoh Amba equals Albert Ayler. But then with the breath of a 22-year-old woman who at a young age already received the blessing of none other than John Zorn. Amba grew up in Tennessee, played guitar and wrote songs until Charlie Parker crossed her path and she instantly fell for the timbre of the saxophone. That path soon led to (free) jazz grandmasters like John Coltrane and Albert Ayler who became her shining examples. In 2022, her eagerness and perseverance culminated in putting out – at the age of 22 – no less than 2 full-length albums. ‘O, Sun’ even appeared on John Zorn’s Tzadik label and he also produced the album. With the album ‘Bhakti’ (read: ‘Devotion to God’) she immediately delivered her own signature sound: furious, but elegant. Zoh Amba equals instant AB-love.Free admission for those who also have a ticket for the Avishai Cohen Trio concert that evening in the Main Hall.
