The program features two of the most prominent piano trios in the classical repertoire: Brahms Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor, Op. 101, and Shostakovich Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67.Brahms's Piano Trio No. 3, written in 1886, is considered one of the composer's most intimate works, combining his signature romanticism with a classical form. On the other hand, Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2, composed in 1944, reflects the turmoil and tragedy of the 20th century, showcasing the composer's mastery of intense and dramatic expression.
