Jean-Baptiste Lully was a composer who dominated musical life at the court of Louis XIV. With Thésée he wrote one of his greatest successes. Although the opera is named after the heroic killer of the Minotaur, the focus is rather on Médée, the tragic heroine who murdered her children in revenge for her husband's infidelity. When she fled to the court of Aegeus after this atrocity, she fell madly in love with Thésée, who did not reciprocate her love. Lully managed to musically translate the feelings of the protagonists in an exceptional way. Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques are coming to Brussels with a strong cast, including Karine Deshayes as an incomparable Médée, and unveil this rarely performed masterpiece.
