Rufus Wainwright has been an opera lover since childhood, insisting that his sister Martha and their family re-enact scenes from Puccini’s Tosca at home. It was not until 2009 that his first opera, Prima Donna, was produced. In 2018, he produced its successor, Hadrian, commissioned by the Canadian Opera Company Toronto, which Bozar invites you to discover as a symphonic and visual version. The Brussels Philharmonic and five vocal soloists, including Davóne Tines in the role of Hadrian, will perform against a backdrop of photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe which illustrate the story and the inner tensions of the characters in this opera. After the break, Rufus himself will sing his most beautiful songs in an orchestral arrangement.
