Halle Gate Park surrounds the medieval tower of the same name in Saint Gilles. Located in the middle of a major road, it's a genuine slice of nature in the heart of the city. It is laid out in various natural areas: bodies of water, one of which is on the site of an old pond; lawns crossed by paths lined with benches; an esplanade bordered by plane trees; a playground; a sports field, etc. You'll also find cannons, which recall the Halle Gate's military past. Take advantage of your walk in the park to visit this tower, which was once part of Brussels' second city wall. It has had various functions (granary, Lutheran temple, prison, archive, arms and armour museum) and was even a neo-Gothic castle. It's now part of the Royal Museums of Art and History and is dedicated to medieval Brussels. In this museum, discover the history and traditions of the capital, the history of its ramparts and numerous temporary exhibitions.
