The Chinese Pavilion, situated amidst the green surroundings of the royal estate at Laeken, together with the nearby Japanese Tower, form a remarkable exotic ensemble built at the beginning of the 20th century on the initiative of King Leopold II. The Pavilion houses a remarkable collection of Chinese porcelain, silverware, furniture and European paintings dating from the 17th to 19th century. The Chinese pavilion is part of the site of the Museums of the Far East together with the Japanese Tower and the Museum of Japanese Art. The three buildings are closed for renovation.The Federal Buildings Agency will supervise the renovation project of the entire site. The permanent collection are stored at the Art & History Museum.
