The story begins in 1958 with Mr Georges Van de Weghe, an antique dealer near place du Sablon who asked the priest of Notre-Dame du Sablon church for permission to display his engravings at the end of mass. The priest then suggested bringing together several antique dealers and creating a market. After many months waiting to obtain authorisation, the first Sablon Antiques Market was held on 3 April 1960, under a radiant sun. Sablon Antique market is the first of its kind in Europe and combines the fascination of a journey through time with typical Brussels art de vivre. It has brought joy to collectors and the curious for more than 60 years. It’s a wonderful place to stroll and enjoy a pleasant moment. It’s a real mine of curiosities, and the place to be if you want to find what you are looking for. There‘s no shortage of choice, with silverware, jewellery, works of art, ceramics and glassware, tableware, paintings and drawings, as well as Chinese porcelain, small furnishings and African art. It offers the promise of beautiful encounters with the past, in a typical and friendly setting!
