The Instituto Cervantes is a non-profit institution created by Spain in 1991 to promote the teaching of the Spanish language and to spread the culture of all Spanish-speaking countries. Its head office is located in Madrid and Alcalá de Henares, birthplace of the writer Miguel de Cervantes.
