Jeanneke-Pis is a statue and a fountain of about 50cm, supported by a basin. The statue depicts a naked little girl crouching down to urinate. She is the female counterpart of the famous Manneken-Pis. Designed in 1985 by sculptor Denis-Adrien Debouvrie, who was also the owner of several restaurants in the Îlot Sacré district, it was inaugurated in 1987 in the presence of the Ilona Staller, aka Cicciolina! The commissioning of this statue by the sculptor-restorer had various aims: to re-establish the equality between men and women that had been undermined by Manneken-Pis for centuries, or more prosaically, to bring people back to this somewhat neglected impasse, in which Debouvrie owned several establishments.... As for the legend, it gradually took root: Jeanneke promises lovers fidelity, installed in the impasse of the same name. It has become traditional to throw coins into the fountain's basin, with the money being donated to associations and good causes.
