MICE study 2025

Study and analyses

This study was commissioned, funded, and led by visit.flanders, in close collaboration with all partner organizations.

This research was conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted impact of conferences held in Flanders and Brussels*.

The primary objectives were twofold:

1. Assess the impact of conferences through four key lenses:

  • Economic: Contribution to local and regional economies.
  • Ecological: Environmental footprint and sustainability considerations.
  • Social: Influence on communities and networks.
  • Personal: Benefits and experiences for individual participants.

2. Analyse the characteristics of conference trips, focusing on:

  • Delegate demographics: Who attends these events?
  • Behaviour and satisfaction: How do delegates engage and perceive their experience?

To achieve these objectives, the research combined two complementary approaches:

  • Interviews with delegates attending conferences in Flanders and Brussels, providing insights into their motivations, behaviours and satisfaction levels.
  • Interviews with conference organisers, offering perspectives on planning, sustainability practices and perceived outcomes.

This dual approach ensures a holistic view of the conference ecosystem, capturing both participant and organiser perspectives.

*This report focuses exclusively on the results of the interviews conducted in Brussels.
