visit.brussels takes its social and environmental responsibility very seriously. As a major tourism player in Brussels, we are committed to making an active contribution to the environment and society.

Electricity:
At the BIP Meeting Center, we encourage our customers to always use natural light and turn off all lights and all screens (computers, monitors, flipcharts) when leaving a room. We only buy class A bulbs such as LEDs or compact fluorescent bulbs. Sensors control the lighting in communal areas.

Catering:
For all of our events, our caterers sign our sustainable commitment charter. It's a multi-faceted commitment which includes: respect for the environment, social legislation, staff welfare, strict hygiene standards, quality organic food and drink, produced as locally as possible and using short distribution channels, etc.
At the BIP Meeting Center you won't find any plastic containers. We only use reusable crockery.
During breaks and in our meeting rooms, there are no plastic bottles. You drink tap water, collected in Wallonia and distributed by Vivaqua. Officially controlled according to very strict specifications, it is then filtered and put into glass bottles by us, on site.
At the BIP, we pay careful attention to the quantities we order to avoid any unnecessary waste, and we also invite our customers to bring containers so that they can take home any surplus.

Sorting waste at the BIP Meeting Center
At the BIP, waste must be separated into bins of different colours.

  • Orange: Compostable waste (e.g. fruit and vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, tissues).
  • Blue: Plastic, metal and drinks cartons (PMC). This includes plastic bottles (except those with poison or corrosive pictograms), tins (clean and dry) and milk cartons, for example.
  • Yellow: Cardboard and paper. Blue and yellow bags are processed at the Recyclis sorting centre.
  • White: Household waste that does not belong in the other coloured bags.

Sustainable mobility:
We are 50m from public transport stops and have a large bicycle parking area in our courtyard.

Printing paper:
To discourage our customers from printing documents, we charge for printing. If they absolutely must, we invite them to:

  • Print on both sides of the sheets of paper.
  • Print only the essential part of the document.
  • Use the backs of used documents as scrap paper.
  • For meetings, opt for digital presentations using our electronic flipcharts.
  • Favour printing on recycled paper, for internal use.

Training:
We support and train our staff to follow best practices. We are supported by Brussels Environment to ensure that our purchases are as environmentally friendly as possible. We encourage participants to share their observations and suggest improvements.
