An impressive historic building in Brussels, linked with automotive history, is home to Autoworld, the Belgian National Automobile Museum. Situated in the ‘Parc du Cinquantenaire’, the neo-classical building commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Kingdom of Belgium in 1880. From 1902 to 1936 it hosted motor¬car and motorbike exhibitions. Since 1986 it has treasured the major part of Ghislain Mahy’s renowned classic car collection.
Over 300 vehicles, ranging from cars and trucks to motorcycles, are on permanent display. From the earliest models of the dis¬tant past to contemporary cars that prefigure the automobile of tomorrow, visitors are guided through the motorcar’s history dating as far back as 1896.
Various cars representing the most exciting years of the auto¬mobile history since 1960 can be approached and admired from close by, thanks to a brilliantly designed scenography.
Special sections focus on sports and competition, cars owned by the Belgian Royal Family, micro and bubble cars, and car design. The Belgium at Autoworld section is dedicated to the roots and history of the Belgian car industry.
Autoworld is a museum on the move, with temporary exhibi¬tions taking on various automotive themes organised through¬out the year.

The historical logistics platform of Tour & Taxis presents a number of buildings of exceptional size and architectural value: the Royal Depot, the Sheds, the Hôtel des Douanes, the Hôtel de la Poste and the Gare Maritime. A modern interpretation is given to the historic buildings on the Tour & Taxis site, with great respect for their authenticity and heritage value.
The site is ideally located on the tourist routes, between the Brussels old city centre and other tourist attactions such as the Atomium.
The green areas and the evolutionary park are central features and an inherent part of the philosophy behind the Tour & Taxis development.

Résidence Palace
Art Deco fans must visit this stunning apartment building with a sky-blue mosaic fountain in the entrance hall right next to an elegantly decorated restaurant and, a little further along, the marble stairway. Developed as a luxurious miniature city with all the services its 1920s inhabitants could need, the building has an elegant façade with sober white stone lines, bas-reliefs and wrought iron lanterns.
The complex was split into four wings, housing a total of 180 apartments built for the bourgeoisie, who at that time struggled to find affordable housing in the city. There was a 516-seater theatre, Turkish baths, fencing halls, tennis courts on the roof and a swimming pool. The swimming pool and theatre still exist, but are no longer open to the public. The building, designed by Swiss architect Michel Polak, was completed in 1927.
The building’s life as a housing complex was very short-lived as in 1947 it was bought by the Belgian state to be transformed into offices. In 1988 the right-hand wing was demolished to make way for the Justus Lipsius building of the Council of the European Union. Very recently the Europa building was built alongside it, incorporating a part of the building, namely the listed stairway. In 2001 the Belgian government moved their international press centre with fully-equipped editing rooms, radio and television studios and conference halls into the building.
The building houses a restaurant serving Belgian-French cuisine in a beautiful setting.

The Gare Maritime - From industrial freight station to energy neutral urban jungle!
It is the perfect setting for innovative cultural events, film or photo shoots, trade shows, fairs, product launches or promotions.
The historic station concourse that was part of the Gare Maritime has been transformed into an indoor city with its own food hall (coming September 2021), exclusive shops and offices. Countless unique and inspiring areas and warm, wooden structures alternate in this building complex. It is perfectly suited to accommodate both small and major events. The monumental nave is a true architectural eye-catcher, bathed in indirect sunlight and providing ample space for well-attended indoor activities.
Any event in the Gare Maritime is a green event. Sustainability has been key during the renovation works. The building generates its own energy from renewable sources, using geothermics and solar panels. The green boulevards on either side of the nave are lined with themed gardens and tall trees, as if the adjacent park found its way inside.
