The Access-i certification

Access-i provides information on the accessibility of sites that are open to the public, tourist and sports facilities, parks and gardens, cycling routes and events.

Objectives

visit.brussels is doing its utmost to make the tourism sector more accessible. With the Access-i certification - a benchmark tool for accessibility - it is raising awareness and supporting tourism actors who commit themselves to accessibility in order to improve the visitor's experience but also to stimulate the development of a more inclusive brand of tourism.

Access-i certification

Access-i informs people with specific needs about the accessibility of places that are open to the public (tourist and sports facilities, parks and gardens, cycling routes, events, etc.). Every establishment certified by Access-i receives a visual summary of their level of accessibility by type of disability. Access-i has already audited and certified more than 500 locations in Wallonia and Brussels and works with 6 subcontracted experts in accessibility, who visit each site to carry out assessments.

The advantages of Access-i certification:

  • You are sure to transmit reliable and verified information to your audience with special needs
  • You're part of a process of inclusion that improves accessibility for all
  • You open the door to a whole new target audience, that of Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM)
  • You receive structural support to ensure the long-term accessibility of your establishment
  • You meet the accessibility standards

For whom?

  • Tourism infrastructures: accommodation, venues, museums and attractions
  • Sports facilities and infrastructures
  • Event organisers
  • Park and garden administrators
  • Cycle route organisers

How to obtain the label?

There are two possibilities:

- Get in touch with Access-i and complete the steps to obtain the label independently.

- Answer the call for applications, launched once a year (in April), by visit.brussels. visit.brussels will grant financial support covering the costs of auditing and certification to motivated tourism operators whose infrastructure has accessibility potential. This support is offered by the Brussels-Capital Region as part of the support made available to the industry to develop more inclusive tourism. This aid is aimed at infrastructures such as accommodation, venues, museums and attractions.
