Today, Anderlecht is the commune with the biggest population growth in the capital. It is also the home of RSC Anderlecht football club, where spectacle is guaranteed, both on and sometimes off the pitch.
But it also seems as if in Anderlecht everything resolves around the figure of Guidon. He was a saint who lived around the year 1000 and who was venerated by the Anderlecht people with processions and fairs. After all, he was the patron saint of merchants, cattle dealers, and farmers. Guidon has definitely left his mark on the commune, since there is still a great deal of historical heritage to be found: St Guidon Church, the beguinage, the Erasmus House...
The latter introduces you to Desiderius Erasmus, a humanist who stayed in the house for a few months in the 16th century. Behind Erasmus House is one of the most beautiful gardens in the Brussels-Capital Region. It is divided into two parts: the philosophical garden, created on the basis of a text by Erasmus, and the medicinal plant garden.
