A stroll past Senne Dehandschutter’s “Lichtzoekers” sculptures
Lichtzoekers, Street art sculptures escaping the dark
Rage, rage
Difficult poses, precarious positions, and the fear of falling. Yet they seem to climb, searching for light and a view. Dreaming of what lies beyond the blind wall or high rooftop. Longing for an elusive horizon.
A rebellion too, against the dark shadow of our time. To put it in the words of the poet Dylan Thomas: "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
Lichtzoekers are a silent spectacle woven through the city. Initially set against the backdrop of sometimes grey Brussels. Soon to appear in other cities as well. We are grateful to the museums and other institutions that believe in us and support the project.

Why Brussels ? Private walking tour - 2h
Two hours on foot, eight guests at most, one Belgian guide. From the opera house where the revolution began to the column raised to the constitution: how a town of merchants was handed a country in 1830 and has been rebuilding itself to fit ever since. A private walk, off the usual circuits.
Seven stops, two hours, walked and explained by Karel. History and culture are his subject, and this is the walk he'd give a friend arriving in Brussels for the first time.
You start on the steps of the opera house, where an audience once walked out of a performance and into a revolution. From there the walk climbs. The lanes are narrow at first, the kind the guilds built to make money in rather than to be admired, and then the street opens, the sky comes in, and you're on the hill where a brand-new country built itself somewhere respectable to be seen. But you'll do more than have landmarks pointed out to you. Brussels is the eternal building site, and there's a reason nobody explains it: a town of merchants was handed a country in 1830 and has been proving itself capital-worthy ever since. Cutting boulevards, burying a river, raising monuments to an identity nobody had needed before. You can read the whole argument in the street plan, two cities meeting along a seam you can cross in a minute, once someone has shown you where it runs.
You finish under the Congress Column, above the rooftops and off most itineraries, where the constitution and the imported king who signed it are written into the stone. Brussels lies below you, and the whole two hours is visible in one view.
