At the start of her senior year of high school, Minnie lives in the shadow of her best friend, Callie - a radiant and popular girl. When Callie suddenly dies in an accident, Minnie is left adrift. She grows close to Callie’s mother, Helen, a classical pianist who offers to coach her for the high school cabaret being held in Callie’s honor. Amidst grief, emerging desires, class differences, and the need to reinvent herself separated from the friend she lost, Mouse delicately portrays an adolescent learning to become her own person.
