The Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present “Note a margine,” a performance by Oscar-winning pianist and composer Nicola Piovani. A recipient of the Oscar for Best Original Score in 1999 for Roberto Benigni’s "Life Is Beautiful" and the composer of some of the most celebrated film scores, Piovani looks back on over forty years of his career in “Note a margine” through storytelling and interaction with four instruments on stage, guiding the audience on a journey of discovery into his experience as a composer. The show, first presented at the Cannes Film Festival under the title “Leçon concert,” traces the creative journey and poetic exploration that have evolved through collaborations with directors such as Federico Fellini, the Taviani brothers, Roberto Benigni, and Bigas Luna, outlining the imaginary milestones of a free and personal musical journey. In this theatrical narrative, music and words come together and complement each other, allowing the music to express what words sometimes fail to convey: because, as Piovani himself recalled, “I cannot remember a single moment in my life when there wasn’t music.” Maestro Piovani, at the piano, will be joined on stage by Marina Cesari on saxophone, Marco Loddo on double bass, and Vittorino Naso on percussion.
