REMIX is a new dance production by Sharon Mercado Nogales, conceived as a performative and choreographic experience that engages with and re-signifies the Aymara concept of Takipayanaku (“it is made together / between both”), exploring relationships of coexistence through water as a conductor of memory and emotion. Inspired by the folkloric dance Salay—its rhythm, footwork, flirtation, and Andean cultural connection—the work approaches remixing as a practice of transformation and re-signification, creating a deep sense of immersion in which music becomes the main guiding force and the audience enters as if submerging themselves in water, encountering its clarity or darkness, movement or stagnation, and reflecting on what can be transformed through love.REMIX understands dance and music as collective practices and forms of celebration that sustain dialogue not only with water but with everything around us—mountains, birds, frogs, sun—focusing on the connection between water, body, and emotion, and revealing how feeling flows, accumulates, and releases through movement. In a speculative present-future where love is narrated through bravery and preservation, vulnerability emerges from hidden identities and courage from faceless bodies, as traditions are treated not as static heritage but as living practices to be confronted and transformed, asking whether dance can become an intimate language through which we speak with—and about—water.
