Autrique House (1893). This was the first building designed by a promising young architect called Victor Horta. Horta was not only an architect but also a Freemason. This building was commissioned by his lodge brother, Victor Autrique. The main requests for the design were no luxury and no extravagance. He clearly succeeded, didn't he? The sober facade has a rare and special elegance. You can visit this house by following the route mapped out by comic book authors Schuiten and Peeters. Here you'll gain a better understanding of the Art Nouveau movement that eventually spread across the globe, with Victor Horta becoming one of its most prolific protagonists.
