Forest Park was created in a style that was very fashionable at the time, the English garden style, in stark contrast with the linear French gardens. The distinction was not only aesthetic but philosophical too. A French garden conveyed the idea of nature shaped by science and technology. The English style, on the other hand, sought to recreate a natural environment in an original, spontaneous fashion, with winding paths and water basins, faux waterfalls and caves. We could say this is a sort of Frexit, garden style.
