Generally the area around a railway station is characterised by busy streets, the sound of horns, and lively, sometimes boisterous, bistros. But not here. The access to the station is a wide avenue with a green central strip. It's one of the most beautiful avenues in Brussels. In the late 19th century, trains were rather chic. People took the train to go to the thermal baths of Spa or the beach in Ostend. Hence the beautiful bourgeois houses in eclectic styles, Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
