The town hall of Saint-Josse is a surprising sight. It's as if the fantasy of the 19th century were wedged between today’s functional buildings. Before housing the town hall, the building belonged to violinist Charles-Auguste de Bériot. A star of the 1800s, he was a musician at the court of the King of France, Charles X. Bériot also made headlines for marrying the famous diva Maria Malibran. The Bériot pavilion was turned into the town hall in 1868. A shift from centre of music to centre of admin.
