The construction of the town hall managed to escape kitsch architecture. In 1909, the plan was to build it in a Flemish neo-Renaissance style. Heavy stuff. The project was interrupted by the war. After that, the tide had changed. The architects wanted to look to the future and opted for an avant-garde style. The result is this modernist yellow-brick building, designed in 1935 by the architect Diongre, who also built the Maison de la Radio on Place Flagey. It is characterised by geometric shapes: a round entrance hall, two rectangular wings and a polygonal belfry. And let’s not forget to circular shapes of the administration offices.
