The Man from Atlantis walks on water after having caused a lot of ink to flow. When Luk Van Soom’s work was installed here in 2003, it provoked the eternal controversy about contemporary art: beautiful or not? The artist is used to creating metaphorical works inspired by myth and magic. The walking figure’s body is ravaged by water run-off. He is wearing a diving mask and carrying an oxygen bag on his back. Is he a mythical being who has risen from the depths to the city? Or an ungainly character who prefers to sink away from the mockery?
