On the old railway track you will notice ‘Railway calligraphy’, a grand piece by Geeraerd and Steenhaut (2002). A beautiful tribute to the railway, which stimulated the development of Belgium and offers us solutions to mobility problems and environmental issues. The rails seem to have shrivelled up as if after a collision... or a close encounter. This illustrates how train travel, unlike car travel, is a great way to meet people, fostering close encounters.
