The Russian style of this Orthodox church is unmistakable, with its stepped zakomara roof, shaped like an overturned ship’s keel. Quite symbolic since its history is actually closely linked to the overthrow of the Russian tsar. The church is dedicated to the victims of Bolshevism. Construction began in 1936, thanks to a fundraising campaign among Russian exiles in Europe. Rumour has it that a relic from the place where the tsar and his family were executed was found within the walls. It is said to be one of the emperor’s fingers that the Bolsheviks had chopped off.
