Discover the Valida Hospital, formerly Hôpital Français, whose original pavilion is further down the road. It opened its doors in 1928 to treat French settlers suffering from tropical diseases. The hospital moved here in the 1960s and commissioned French artist Jean Derval to decorate the main entrance. Derval worked at the famous Madoura workshop in Vallauris, which produced ceramics designed by Picasso, Chagall and Matisse. The Vallauris trend is clearly visible in this mural, which shows the sun in the lush nature of the south. What better way to brighten up a gloomy hospital stay?
