"At the beginning again, after the flood, we first saw the birds. The sculpture commemorates the Rwandan genocide. The stone stele evokes the flood of violence. The birds emerge from the egg, a new flight to freedom. Most birds are migratory, like people. They go from Europe to Africa and back. They share the sky. The monument called "Under the same sky", created in 2004, is the work of Tom Frantzen, an artist best known for his facetious sculptures, like a kid tripping a policeman. Here Frantzen is more serious. The monument was designed with the Rwandan artist Epaphrodite Binamungu, who created its complement in Kigali. On the same land.
