Another secret gem in Schaerbeek: a harmonious row of buildings from the early 20th century. At no. 55, a slightly extravagant example of an Art Nouveau-style apartment building by architect Gustave Strauven. The same architect designed no. 43, which is also a marvel. Four levels, asymmetry all around. A facade decorated with stone plants. What a gem! Look at the front door with its intricately designed wrought iron gate. Why are they refered to as noodles? Art Nouveau, with its complex ironwork, was mockingly called ‘noodle style’. Today, we’d say, “Use your noodle!”.
