Several years ago, a group of entrepreneurs invested in the vacant premises of the Danckaert factory. The factory, with its infinitely long façade featuring numerous characteristic square windows, was once one of the largest factories in Brussels specialised in the production of technical equipment and machines. When the buildings became vacant, the investors transformed them into a business centre (Pepibru) for the audio-visual and creative industry. It is now home to many start-ups, among others, and contains a large multipurpose modular 5,000-square metre auditorium with more than enough space to seat a thousand people. It was here that German Chancellor Angela Merkel received the honorary doctorate jointly conferred on her by the universities of Ghent and Louvain in 2017.
