This light pole - both a reference to its electrical use and its style - was created by Jacques de Lalaing between 1887 and 1913, oveer several phases. Electricity was a magical invention that would drive the industrial revolution of the 19th century. It powered machines, led to the creation of the cinema and added a spark to nighttime in the city. It even captured people's hearts and minds... Electricity inspired many artists. Here, even a pylon becomes a work of art. At its base, a fight between tigers and snakes over banana leaves. Note the smooth movements of the animals, which are typical of Art Nouveau decoration.
