The statue in the centre of Square Palmerston is called ‘Folle Chanson’, French for crazy song. This work by Jef Lambeaux was unveiled here in 1902. ‘Unveiled’ is definitely the right word here, as it depicts an old satyr seemingly enjoying the crazy song sung to him by a naked nymph with castanets. The satyr seems to be pushing away a child. An ode to contraception perhaps? In any case, this X-rated scene shocked the high society of the time. Also note the sumptuous mansions around you. In a nutshell, a crazy song surrounded by crazy wealth.
