Did you know that the streets of the European Quarter hold a whole host of independent boutiques that are well worth a visit? Trendy stationers, committed florists, unique bookshops and ethical concept-stores thrive here, offering a wide range of unique products. Fashion, design, food, artisanal products... all located between place Jourdan, Schuman and Mérode. Here are just a few of our favourite spots for your next shopping trip!
Near Mérode – Tongres
Just on the edge of Cinquantenaire Park, not far from the vibrant avenue de Tervuren, Mérode metro station and the charming place Saint Pierre, is the bustling Tongres-Linthout district. While its food industry and fine grocery stores have enjoyed a good reputation for decades, a new generation of shops – ethical, active in the local community and (obviously!) trendy – has arrived to add to this shopping area's offering.
Our selection of shops
- With its beautiful and timeless jewellery collections, Sample Slow Jewelry has followers throughout the capital. Textured gold, pearl pendants, understated silver bracelets... It's impossible not to fall for these unique designs, made in Brussels using recycled silver and gold.
- What would beautiful interior design be without flowers? Haut les cœurs makes our hearts skip a beat with its incredible selection of fresh and dried bouquets. What do all these arrangements have in common? They're all organic, Belgian flowers, delivered by bike. A florist that's as good for our morale as it is for the planet.
- If you have a sweet tooth, then avenue de la Chasse certainly has something for you. After Vanessa Renard, Chocolatier of the Year 2022 for the Brussels-Capital Region, it is now the turn of the bubbly Vivian Lins to display her gourmet creations in the windows of number 227. Trained by the great chocolatier Yasushi Sasaki, the Brazilian offers speculoos and pralines inspired by the flavours of her country such as acai berries, passion fruit and cupuacu, an exotic fruit that's both tart and sweet.
- Rock, Pap(i)er, scissors! With a name that's as obvious as it gets, this new boutique-style stationery shop offers a wide range of high-quality, sustainable and sophisticated products. The shop also sells the creations and houses the sketches of its founder, illustrator Julie De Smedt. A refreshing touch of elegance in today's digital world!
- A true Aladdin's cave, overflowing with recycled or zero-waste finds, Lucie in the R. embodies values that are in line with the times. Decorative items (we love their eco-friendly rainbow candles and upcycled single-stem vases), beautiful natural materials and organic cosmetics are all part of this stylish brand's selection!
Near Jourdan – Schuman
The beating heart of Etterbeek, place Jourdan has managed to retain its village feel, while mixing together an international crowd on a daily basis. We love the friendliness of its bars, cafés and restaurants and the authenticity of the district's spirit. It's a place where all sorts of languages, accents and influences come together. A diversity that's reflected in the shops that keep the sector moving. If you head up rue Froissart, around the Schuman area and place Jean Monnet, you'll find yourself increasingly immersed in a real, behind-the-scenes discovery of Europe.
L'Auberge espagnole, incubator for local talent
With its sunny name, l'Auberge espagnole (the Spanish Inn) shines a spotlight Brussels’ local talents. Every three months, this hub.brussels incubator offers the shop keys (at attractive rental rates) to a creator, artisan or entrepreneur so they can open a store and meet their customers, all while taking advantage of coaching session on a variety of topics. Its modular shelves can be seen showcasing zero-waste cosmetics, textile products made of recycled cotton, or even crafts from Moroccan cooperatives. All in a bright and pleasant setting, with a sophisticated design.

And to keep up that glow, the shop also offers a selection of jewellery and cosmetics.

This is our kind of bakery, with hand-picked flour (from none other than the mill in Signy l’Abbaye), natural leaven, PDO butter and traditional expertise.
