In Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, 'superdiversity' isn't just an empty concept. The smallest and most densely populated commune in Brussels is home to about a 153 nationalities that speak over sixty languages: it's a pocket-sized global village.

This walk also takes us to the squares, just a little further on. A place where the rich built their country houses near the ponds that were fed by the Maelbeek. The area remains rich and exuberant, but its population has changed: a lot of buildings around the parks now house lobbyists looking to live near the European Quarter.

On your stroll, you'll find yourself at the foot of the 120-metre-high Madou Tower, which houses European officials, and the 107-metre-high tower of the Brussels Employment Office. Along the way, you can admire Art Nouveau gems like Saint-Cyr House or Hotel Van Eetvelde, designed by Victor Horta.

The area is bursting with businesses offering products from all over the world. Two such examples are the Argentinian restaurant Mi Tango and grocery shop Au Fil des Saveurs, which sells delicious empanadas.

Duration of walk: 2hrs.
Starting point: Madou (metro line 2-6) (exit in front of the Town Hall)

The map for this walk is available in French, Dutch and English.
