Brussels jewellers and artisans

Els Vansteelandt

In Brussels, creativity is like the art of living: inventive and even extravagant. This constant search for innovation results in fashion collections that defy time. Its jewellers, constantly pushing the limits of the material, are no exception to the rule.

More than mere jewellery, contemporary artisans create "wearable works of art", that often challenge our ideas of jewels. Designers mix products and materials, working them to obtain often highly original pieces. As the capital slowly but steadily becomes a showcase for contemporary jewellery, the names and addresses below are just a small selection of what Brussels has to offer, from more traditional pieces to those that almost flirt with contemporary art.

Some names to know

Audrey Ickx

Are you looking for timeless creations? Welcome to the imagination of Audrey Ickx. This Brussels-based artist creates minimalist and unisex jewellery that will undoubtedly stand the test of time. Her creations balance between poetry and design, and forge an intimate link between the object and the person wearing it. Audrey Ickx also works on photographic projects that echo her jewellery business, and vice versa.

Alexandre Hekkers

Alexandre Hekkers is a fine Belgian jeweller whose timeless craftsmanship incorporates modern design. Founded in 2020 after years of apprenticeship in Brussels and Antwerp, the brand reimagines classic forms – signet rings, curb chains, solitaires – with attention to detail, precious materials (18-carat gold, 925 silver and stones) and a vision of accessibility without compromise. All Alexandre Hekkers pieces are unisex and handcrafted with care to transcend both time and gender, whether part of a core collection or made to order for life’s meaningful moments.

Catherine Merlin – Miono

Would you like to travel by way of your jewellery? You absolutely can! This is exactly what Catherine Merlin wants to inspire with Miono and her collections. Places, memories, experiences - each creation is a representation. After a round-the-world trip the designer realised that she wanted to harness each moment to remember it indefinitely and share her extraordinary discoveries with as many people as possible. Each Miono piece is therefore a tribute to a person or a place on this earth. What could be more beautiful than this love for the essential? Visit online or at NOJ (rue Antoine Antoine Dansaert 175, 1000 Brussels) to treat yourself to a little piece of worldly exclusivity.

Céline Daoust

Fond of colours? Céline Daoust only works with natural, imperfect and unique stones: amethysts, quartz, moonstones, etc. The designer has always been fascinated by their vast palette of colours and their energetic power. She has a penchant for tourmalines and grey diamonds, which she works to reveal their beauty. Céline Daoust travels between Brussels, Paris and Jaipur. The vibrations of the latter destination are a constant source of inspiration, as her collections are inspired by its colours, its people and its ambient spirituality. The jeweller is concerned with responsible artisanship and works exclusively with local artisans and ethically mined stones. Discover the collections in her eponymous boutique.

Christa Reniers

With nearly 30 years of experience, Christa Reniers is one of the Belgian faces of contemporary jewellery design. She has been offering real "wearable art" since day one. Her sculptural and very graphic jewellery in silver or gold is created by hand in Brussels, with the use of the lost wax process. This is a unique craft technique that produces an exceptional visual identity. Over the years, these modern jewels have become timeless classics. Christa Reniers also creates pieces decorated with crystal, amethyst and quartz. These pieces can be purchased from the designer's flagship store where she offers advice in person on Saturday afternoons.

IL by Isabelle Lenfant

Isabelle Lenfant is a great ambassador of Brussels' expertise in contemporary jewellery. After studying fashion design at La Cambre and having a number of collaborations with Belgian and French haute couture houses, she embarked on a training programme at Arts & Métiers and began to create contemporary jewellery. Her flagship piece? The plaster ring in gold or silver which is a constant success. His creations tend to come with a message. They are the reflection of a history, of cracks accepted and repaired. If you want a real symbol instead of just a jewel, visit Isabelle Lenfant's online shop.

Martine Hermans - Skin & Soul Jewelry

With their epidermal texture, Martine Hermans's creations are easily recognisable. Since 2003, Martine Hermans has adopted the "epidermal imprint" concept, which she calls Skin & Soul Jewelry. This technique allows her to design very personal jewels whose base is the texture of the skin and the imprint of certain parts of the body. The creator takes the print of your mouth, navel, ear or other body part, and transforms it into a surrealist jewel in her workshop in Ixelles. The metal becomes an epidermis, a witness of existence. She also works on plant imprints with her "Seeds" collection. Does this concept appeal to you? Go to her boutique and workshop to make a purchase or to take one of her à la carte introductory jewellery courses!

Saskia Shutt

Do you want to offer or treat yourself to a 100% ethical jewel? Saskia Shutt creates classic and contemporary jewellery in silver, gold and platinum encrusted with natural stones, all with a sustainable approach. The Fairmined-certified gold comes from artisanal and responsible mining organisations. The stones and other rare metals are also ethically mined. The designer and goldsmith is also an active member of the Ethical Metalsmiths association. As such, she works almost exclusively on demand by creating custom-made pieces in her Brussels workshop or giving new life to family heirlooms by recycling and transforming them. She sees people by appointment in the heart of the capital (rue d'Alost 7, 1000 Brussels).

Vanessa Aerts - VA Jewellery

Vanessa Aerts' creations celebrate femininity in all its timelessness and delicacy. Her inspiration is derived from everyday life. The designer creates graphic and light collections that are subtly integrated onto the body. She works tirelessly with gold and silver, from time to time creating fortunate accidents that result in extraordinary jewels. Semi-precious stones are subtly scattered throughout her work. Does Vanessa Aerts' work interest you? The designer awaits you in her boutique and workshop, which is a designer gem on its own.

Xavier Maury

Xavier Maury is a French jeweller, caster and enameller (exactly, a jack-of-all-trades!) based in Brussels. Each creation is made by Xavier Maury in his Brussels workshop, which he shares with another multidisciplinary artist and jeweller, Caroline Purgal (Misogyne Jewellery). Do you prefer a customised piece? That's completely possible!
