About the artwork:
This installation was created by master's students in architecture at KU Leuven as part of the "Form & Force" elective course, which introduces research of the structural form with a design approach. The sculpture is composed of lightweight, two-sided metallised membranes arranged in interconnected funnels connecting the glass facade, the historic walls and the atrium. The material clearly distinguishes the interior from the exterior and invites visitors to interact with the installation from different points of view. From inside the BELvue museum or through the glass facade, the changing alignments and superimpositions reveal a dialogue between the sculpture and its architectural context. In daylight, the membranes appear as an opaque golden surface. However, when night falls, the light emitted from within makes the material more and more translucent, revealing the depth and continuity of the form.
