About the artist: Katja Heitmann
In her visual-choreographic work, Katja Heitmann (born in Germany in 1987) explores what drives humanity today. As a ‘choreographic sculptor’, Katja relentlessly searches for the essence of her subject matter. Through radical concepts and carefully crafted forms of representation, she strips her artistic material down to its bare bones. Only the essential is shown, with striking acuity.
Katja Heitmann wants to move her audience. Through her works, she continually seeks interaction with society, the city and people. The universal nature of her work allows everyone to find their own gateway in to the work.
She is also fascinated by humanity's quest for immortality. That is why, in 2019, she launched the Motus Mari archive for human movement and collected the personal movements of more than 2,000 people. She has used this archive to create several works.
