Copenhagen
They were friends before the world went to war. One evening left a question history has never answered. Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning Copenhagen revisits one of the greatest mysteries of the Second World War.
They were friends before the world went to war.
Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg once worked closely to unlock the secrets of the atom. Then war placed them on opposite sides. It’s 1941. Heisenberg visits Nazi-occupied Copenhagen to meet his former mentor, Bohr, and wife, Margrethe. What passed between them has never been agreed upon. As the three revisit that fateful evening, memories clash, motives are questioned, and certainty proves elusive.
Starring Eva Fontaine (Amandaland, BBC), Peter Hald (The Bridge, SVT/DR), and Manuel Klein (War Horse, National Theatre), Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning play Copenhagen returns one of the greatest mysteries of the Second World War: Why did Heisenberg come?

Taiwan New Cinema
Developed as part of Michael Lin’s exhibition, Tea Towels and Serviettes, at La Loge, this film programme expands on the Taiwan New Cinema. The movement emerged in the 1980s during a period of significant social and political transformation in Taiwan, as martial law ended and rapid economic growth reshaped the country.
Developed as part of Michael Lin’s exhibition, Tea Towels and Serviettes, at La Loge, this film programme expands on an important reference in the artist’s practice: Taiwan New Cinema.
The movement emerged in the 1980s during a period of significant social and political transformation in Taiwan, as martial law ended and rapid economic growth reshaped the country. As Taiwan’s cities changed over time, the ways people related to one another also evolved, and ideas of “home” began to be redefined, often in relation to urban life. Filmmakers turned their attention to this everyday life, exploring changing relationships between people, the transformation of rural and urban environments, and the emergence of a new middle class. In this context, the films presented in this programme trace a broader genealogy of image-making that connects personal and collective histories to shifting political, social, and cultural realities.
In this programme, Michael Lin invites the Taiwanese collective P.M.S., long engaged with the intersecting discourses of identity, gender, and Indigeneity, to initiate a dialogue through a complementary selection of documentaries and fiction films. In response to Lin’s interest in everyday life and cultural contexts, P.M.S.’s selection brings forward realities and narratives that have coexisted since the 1980s yet have remained marginalised within cinema, moving between the grand currents of the era and the intimate scale of everyday life.
P.M.S. is a Taiwanese collective composed of Posak Jodian, Manman, and Sophie Chen. The name P.M.S. combines the first syllables of their names while also referencing the English acronym for “Premenstrual Syndrome”, reflecting their critical engagement with dominant historical narratives. They also playfully reinterpret it as “Probably Meaning Something”, underscoring their openended and reflective approach to questioning established social and cultural frameworks. Since 2022, the three members have worked collectively on projects exploring the intersections of Indigenous perspectives, gender, and contemporary social issues. They have curated film programmes and screenings across Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan. Their practice frequently engages with the betel nut as both a cultural symbol and a connective thread, bringing communities together, fostering translocal solidarities among women, and opening space for alternative narratives – one chew at a time.

Camille Pennequin, Colorful Escapes
Camille Pennequin is a painter based in Brussels. Havind graduated in graphic design from the University of the Arts London (UAL Camberwell) and subsequently in jewellery design from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, she has developed a visual art practice enriched by the precision of drawing, the rigour of craftsmanship and the power of colour.
Camille Pennequin’s world invites us to pause time and let our minds wander. Drawing inspiration from her travels, the artist goes beyond simply depicting the landscape to capture its emotion, light and atmosphere: the enchanting reflections of Venice, the brightness of Menorca and the mystery of Calabria all become fragments of memory.
On the canvas, gouache and oil pastels intertwine in a tactile interplay of textures and reliefs, brought to life by free-flowing brushstrokes and vibrant colours. The energy of the moment blends with memory, making each work a poetic bridge between recollection and wonder.

Michael Lin - 'Tea Towels and Serviettes'
In the autumn of 2026, La Loge presents a new work of Michael Lin, an influential artist from a generation of Taiwanese practitioners who gained international prominence in the 1990s and 2000s. Michael Lin (1964) lives and works between Taipei and Brussels. This exhibition marks his first solo presentation in Belgium. Lin will create a large-scale, site-specific installation. He is known for his vivid, expansive works that draw on traditional Taiwanese textile patterns. His practice operates at the intersection of visual art, design, and craft, and has been widely presented in leading biennials and international museum exhibitions.

The exhibition at Fondation CAB brings together recent works by Edgar Sarin alongside works by Sol LeWitt, Cy Twombly, Robert Barry, Peter Buggenhout, Niele Toroni, Miquel Barceló, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Louise Lawler, Joseph Beuys, Merry Alpern, Brice Marden, and Nan Goldin.
Borrowed from Johann Sebastian Bach, the title Matthäus-Passion refers here to a composition of autonomous voices, in which each presence acts upon the others.
Passion is understood here as a state, one of intensity, where works coexist and test one another. The artist stands amid that which has shaped him, not to produce a synthesis, but to sustain its living tension, beyond homage.
Matthäus-Passion is a place where looking becomes an undeniably physical experience; where art history is no longer a backdrop but an active material; where works do not merely respond to one another ; they persist alongside us.

TrioFenix
In 2027, it will be exactly three hundred years since the birth of Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, the harpsichordist after whom Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations are named. Like many keyboard players, the Belgian string trio TrioFenix has made the set of variations almost a signature work over the years. As the crowning achievement of twenty years of steadfast friendship and artistic collaboration, the trio released its recording of the Goldberg Variations in February 2026. Their interpretation of Bach’s seminal work brings together everything TrioFenix stands for: crystal-clear ensemble playing, a refined balance and expressive depth – in short, chamber music as an art of dialogue and attention to detail.

Descended from a long line of musicians, he explores his roots in the Indigenous Yaqui culture on Vol. 3: Ancestros Futuros, the third chapter of a trilogy released on the prestigious Daptone Records label. Through this spiritual journey, he builds a musical world of his own at the crossroads of past, present, and future, where memory and imagination intertwine. Traditional rhythms blend with influences from funk, R&B, and Latin jazz to create a cosmic flow of energy. Deeply rooted in tradition, yet with an open gaze toward the future.

For decades, American jazz master Fred Hersch has been shaping contemporary jazz with a piano style defined by focus, vulnerability, and lyricism. With The Surrounding Green (2025, ECM Records), he adds a new chapter to his already impressive body of work. His signature velvety touch and flowing piano lines connect original compositions, arrangements, and improvisations into a whole that feels both natural and refined. Together with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Joey Baron, his partners on the album, Hersch brings this music to the stage. With rare ease, the trio unfolds rich, seemingly endless melodies in which no note is superfluous and every nuance matters.

Forget the ticking of the clock — here, music doesn’t rush forward, but grips the present moment. Raven Chacon, Tyshawn Sorey, Annea Lockwood and George Lewis ask us to listen differently: what remains when the noise falls away?
Raven Chacon, the first Native American Pulitzer winner, usually tackles history and politics. With Inscription, however, he lets the music speak for itself. Inspired by 1,000-year-old New Mexican petroglyphs, he treats ancient rock art as musical prompts: 'They looked like violin cues or bass clarinet vibratos to me.' Breaking from rigid tradition, Chacon uses graphic scores and microtones, treating every orchestral player as an 'autonomous sound-maker.'
Then, the tempo drops to a near-standstill. Tyshawn Sorey’s Adagio (For Wadada Leo Smith) is a monumental lesson in patience, moving with the majestic, imperceptible crawl of a glacier. Amidst the near-silence, a slowly rotating alto sax melody offers a steady hand to hold.
But silence is an illusion. Unless time stops, the world—nature, the city, our own bodies—is always loud. These are the raw materials of Annea Lockwood. In Saouah!, she blurs the lines between voice, breath, and instrument, inviting us to stop hunting for harmony and start feeling the physical resonance of sound itself.
Finally, George Lewis explores time as 'wear and tear': “Weathering mirrors the stamina needed to endure systemic racism—the chronic stress of a permanent 'fight or flight' mode. I hope my music does noy cause stress, but sparks empathy. After all, this kind of weathering affects us all."

MANOU GALLO
BASS CHANT MANOU GALLO DRYUM MATTEO DE VITO
Ivorian bassist, singer and composer Manou Gallo has built a unique musical language where West African rhythms meet funk, jazz fusion and raw groove.
After arriving in Europe in 1997, she became the bassist of Zap Mama, touring extensively across Europe and the US, before developing her own projects from 2003 onwards. Along the way, she has shared music and stages with figures such as Marcus Miller, Bootsy Collins and Manu Dibango.
A bass player’s bass player, Manou approaches the instrument as rhythm, melody and percussion at once. From the freedom of Jaco to the funk heritage of Bootsy and Marcus Miller, these influences meet her own African roots to create something deeply personal: Afro fusion driven by bass and groove.
At Sounds, expect a stripped-back and powerful dialogue between bass, voice and drums, with African guitar and flute textures moving through funk, fusion and polyrhythmic grooves.

Thibaut Garcia & Antoine Morinière
In 2027, it will be exactly three hundred years since the birth of Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, the harpsichordist after whom Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations are named. For Thibaut Garcia and Antoine Morinière, it was only a matter of time before they took on this monumental work: for more than fifteen years, the two guitarists have explored the Baroque repertoire together through their own transcriptions. For this project, they each transcribed half of the variations and even commissioned two identical guitars to be built. Four hands and twelve strings thus merge into a single instrument, casting Bach’s masterpiece in a striking new light.

The Volterra Project Trio
With Parole in musica, the three guitarists of the Volterra Project Trio present a varied programme of music inspired by stories from literature, film, and theatre. In their hands, the guitars become a miniature orchestra, effortlessly shifting between refined lyricism and sharp rhythmic drive. From the very first notes of Enrique Granados’s Valses poéticos, the guitar reveals its ability to sing as much as to dance, with dance and lyricism inseparably intertwined. This exploration continues with iconic excerpts from Edvard Grieg’s incidental music for Peer Gynt, music by Oscar-winning film composer Manos Hadjidakis, and exuberant dances from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. With this multifaceted programme, the Volterra Project Trio pays tribute to the guitar as a storyteller of wordless tales.

Rammstein Symphonic Experience
Ready to hear Rammstein in a completely different way?
Rammstein Symphonic Experience is a high-quality symphonic tribute show inspired by the music of Rammstein. It is an artistic interpretation where a full orchestra reveals familiar compositions on a new scale — deeper, more dramatic and cinematic.
Rammstein’s music is about strength, pain, passion, rebellion and freedom.
In a symphonic format these meanings rise to another level: you begin not only to recognize the songs, but to hear them differently — and experience them more intensely. Even if you know every note and listen to Rammstein almost every day, this show can still evoke completely new emotions.
The show was created in the UAE and has already captivated audiences and fans of the band in different countries. Rammstein Symphonic Experience continues its international tour, bringing this powerful orchestral interpretation of the legendary music to audiences around the world.
On stage you will experience:
a full live symphony orchestra — power, precision and discipline
cinematic-level video content — a visual art form working together with the music
lighting, silhouettes and visual direction creating a powerful stage atmosphere
75 minutes of continuous orchestral energy
This is one of those rare concerts where you feel like not filming, but simply listening — because the music and atmosphere are stronger than any screen.
The finale usually speaks for itself — a standing ovation.
Rammstein. Reinterpreted. Reborn. Like you’ve never heard before.

Their combination part vocal harmonies, huge repertoire that draws from so many eras and genres of the 20th century, virtuoso guitar show-offs, and ridiculous sense of fun and musical adventure has helped them secure fans in the jazz world and across the spectrum alike - all ages and all musical tasted will find something to enjoy in Django Chutney & Trio Qu'a Trois hugely entertaining and energetic performances.
Drawing from Chutney's repertoire, along with more modern tunes, 20's blues, and the very-possible chance of some Black Sabbath, Django Chutney steamroller the audience with a forceful jazz-guitar sound that amazes and delights in equal measure.
Trading sets across the evening, Trio Qu'a Trois bring their own distinct flavour to the Full Circle stage - a trio built around guitar, helicon, saxophone and banjo, blending gypsy-jazz swing with a playfully unconventional instrumentation that sets them apart.

Azymuth
More than 50 years ago, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, the completely new sound of the jazz fusion trio Azymuth was heard for the first time. Since then, the trio has recorded more than 30 albums and gained worldwide recognition with their self-proclaimed samba doido (“crazy samba”), a distinctive fusion of jazz-funk, samba, and electronics. With their latest album Marca Passo (2025, Far Out Recordings), Azymuth celebrates five decades in music. Bassist Alex Malheiros, together with keyboardist Dudu Viana and drummer Renato Massa, keeps the trio sounding as vibrant as ever, driven by the same cosmic energy and masterful virtuosity that have defined Azymuth from the very beginning. The trio remains true to the formula that has made them irresistible for half a century: a whole greater than the sum of its parts and a groove that sets everything in motion.

In Don Juan, Richard Strauss portrays the ultimate seducer in all his glory and tragedy: restless, yearning, and ultimately — inevitably — confronted by his own limitations. A vibrant symphonic poem full of youthful energy and reckless seduction, ending in a pregnant silence. This stillness is broken by the massive soundworld of Iannis Xenakis: in Empreintes, he makes the orchestra sound like an overwhelming force of nature, creating a fascinating listening experience that pushes known musical boundaries.
Then, Ludwig van Beethoven dots the i's, bringing the essence of the symphony back to the fore — albeit with a mischievous wink. His Eighth Symphony is an ode to vitality and is packed with musical wit. Although Beethoven was struggling with personal setbacks during this period, he delivered a compact, energetic, and upbeat symphony. A powerful shot of energy to close the evening.

“Ma musique est mon portrait." In 1943, an aircraft dropped thousands of copies of Paul Éluard's poem Liberté over occupied France. In secret, Francis Poulenc composed his cantata Figure Humaine, a powerful ode to liberation. In 1946, the choir of the public broadcaster NIR — the predecessor of the Vlaams Radiokoor — premiered this cantata during a special broadcast on ‘Sender Brüssel,’ which had just been liberated from Nazi control. Exactly 80 years later, the Vlaams Radiokoor performs the work once again in the very place it was created: the former broadcasting house, Flagey. The audience is invited to join the performers on the stage of the iconic Studio 4 for a unique and intimate musical portrait of Francis Poulenc — ‘Poupoule’ to his friends. Together with I SOLISTI, the Radiokoor introduces you to the man himself: his kaleidoscopic oeuvre, his colorful personality, and his many unexpected musical ties to Belgium. All of this topped off with his wonderfully surrealist Le Bal Masqué.

Can beauty save the world? It may sound like a bold idea, but for L’Antidote it lies at the very heart of their musical vision. With Lebanese pianist Rami Khalifé, Albanian cellist Redi Hasa, and Iranian percussionist Bijan Chemirani, the trio brings together three musicians, each carrying their own tradition and distinct voice. By listening closely to one another, they create poetic, meditative soundscapes in which silence and space are as important as melody and rhythm. Together, they reach out to one another in search of a universal sound that does not erase their differences, but allows them to merge into a rich and hopeful whole. Between stillness and dancing trance, L’Antidote finds healing sounds as an antidote in an unsettled world.

Roel Dieltiens, Bart Naessens & Ageet Zweistra / When the Cello Began to Sing
Long before the cello became one of classical music’s most beloved solo instruments, a handful of pioneering musicians were discovering just how much it could do. At the heart of this programme is Domenico Gabrielli—one of the first great cello virtuosos and among the earliest composers to give the instrument a true solo voice—alongside music by Bononcini, Geminiani, Vivaldi and the Dutch-born Willem de Fesch.
Internationally renowned cellist and early-music pioneer Roel Dieltiens is joined by Bart Naessens and Ageet Zweistra on period instruments, bringing audiences remarkably close to the sound world in which the cello first stepped into the spotlight. Noble and intimate one moment, dazzlingly virtuosic the next, these works reveal a familiar instrument at the exhilarating beginning of its story. A fitting Prelude to the Brussels Cello Festival: come hear when the cello began to sing.

Brussels Philharmonic, Victor-Julien Laferrière & Sascha Goetzel
Schumann wrote the first true cello concerto, though he never heard it performed during his lifetime. Its enduring popularity lies in its emotional depth, as Victor Julien-Laferrière notes: “I hope Schumann’s concerto offers the audience a deeply romantic moment, evoking someone alone with their thoughts, in an intimate dialogue with nature.”
Richard Strauss, a master of musical storytelling, reached new heights with Don Quixote. ‘Fantastic variations on a theme of knightly character,’ he subtitled this symphonic poem, based on Cervantes’ book about the knight-errant. And fantastic it is: a masterfully composed tale that sweeps listeners along—at times delicately, at others with irony and flamboyance—into the battle against injustice.

Gala Concert – Brussels Cello Festival 2026
From intimate chamber music to the thrilling sonority of twelve cellos filling the stage, this gala concert showcases the extraordinary breadth of the cello’s expressive world. The first half brings together two distinct artistic personalities in masterpieces of the Romantic repertoire: fresh from his First Prize triumph at the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition, Ettore Pagano opens with Schumann’s poetic Fantasiestücke, followed by the legendary Gary Hoffman in Mendelssohn’s radiant Second Sonata, one of the pinnacles of the cello literature. Both artists are joined by acclaimed pianist Chloe Jiyeong Mun, whose refined musicianship brings equal lyricism, colour and brilliance to these two masterpieces.
After the interval, the scale—and the excitement—grows. Festival artists join forces with the top three laureates of the 2026 Buchet International Cello Competition in ensembles of four and twelve cellos, offering the rare chance to experience internationally acclaimed soloists performing side by side with rising stars as one extraordinary ensemble. From Romantic virtuosity and Catalan folk tradition to the irresistible rhythms of Piazzolla, the evening builds towards a spectacular celebration of the emotions, energy and camaraderie that make the cello world unlike any other.

Aleksey Shadrin & Camille Thomas / Grieg, Brahms & Glass
Two of today’s most compelling cellists meet in a recital built around the extraordinary emotional power of the Romantic cello. Aleksey Shadrin takes on Grieg’s only Cello Sonata, a sweeping work of Nordic lyricism, passion and dramatic energy, before Camille Thomas brings her distinctive voice to Brahms’ First Sonata—one of the great pillars of the cello repertoire, where profound intimacy meets the architectural grandeur of Bach.
After these two Romantic masterpieces, Thomas offers an unexpected epilogue with Philip Glass’ hauntingly beautiful Truman Sleeps. Its luminous simplicity leaves the music suspended between memory and dream—a contemporary echo of the same intimacy and longing heard in Grieg and Brahms more than a century earlier. Three works, two exceptional artists and one of the cello’s greatest strengths: its ability to make the most deeply felt emotions sound almost human.
Immediately following the concert, Camille Thomas will meet audiences for a signing of her latest album dedicated to the music of Philip Glass.

Fresh from his First Prize triumph at the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition, Ettore Pagano returns to Brussels for a rare encounter between the Competition’s newest winner and one of the distinguished artists who sat on its jury. The young Italian cellist opens with Mendelssohn’s elegant Variations concertantes and Debussy’s groundbreaking Sonata before unleashing the virtuoso fireworks of Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Figaro.
Internationally acclaimed Belgian cellist and 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition juror Marie Hallynck then takes the stage, joined by her long-standing chamber music partner Muhiddin Dürrüoğlu in Saint-Saëns’s passionate First Cello Sonata. Its fiery and dramatic outer movements frame a serene central Andante, revealing a work of striking intensity and lyricism.
For the finale, Hallynck and Pagano are joined by Brussels Cello Festival Artistic Director Han Bin Yoon in Popper’s deeply moving Requiem for three cellos and piano. This exceptional meeting brings the Competition’s newest winner, one of its jurors and the festival’s artistic director together on a single stage, celebrating the moment when the applause of a great competition gives way to the next chapter of an artist’s journey.

Belgium’s acclaimed cello octet O-Celli takes the audience on a whirlwind journey through Bach and Verdi, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Bernstein’s West Side Story and the unforgettable film music of John Williams—including Hedwig’s Theme and the soaring Flying Theme from E.T.
After the interval, the stage fills with cellos as Festival artists and young talents come together in the Brussels Cello Festival Orchestra. Villa-Lobos, Morricone’s beloved Gabriel’s Oboe, Márquez’s irresistible Danzón No. 2 and Elgar’s moving Nimrod lead to Blaise Déjardin’s playful Aquarela do Violoncelo. And for those listening especially closely, one final musical surprise awaits… how many familiar tunes will you recognise? A joyful, spectacular finale for seasoned concertgoers, first-time audiences and families alike.

David Cohen, Aleksey Shadrin & Yibai Chen / Stravinsky, Bartók, Ravel, de Falla & Cassadó
Every great composer inherits a spark. Some preserve it; others transform it into something entirely their own. In Borrowed Fire, Aleksey Shadrin, Yibai Chen and David Cohen journey through music shaped by the unique sounds, rhythms and traditions of Italy, Hungary, Romania and Spain—reimagined by some of the twentieth century’s most distinctive musical voices.
Stravinsky transforms music attributed to Pergolesi with wit and brilliance; Bartók turns the raw energy of folk music into exhilarating concert works; and Ravel evokes Spain through the hypnotic sway of the Habanera. The journey then moves south with de Falla’s passionate Spanish songs before culminating in the dazzling virtuosity of Catalan cellist-composer Gaspar Cassadó’s Requiebros. From intimate melodies to irresistible dances and fiery virtuosity, this recital reveals how music can cross borders and generations, continually finding new life in the hands of the next artist.
