An anonymous artist has left their mark on the Brussels landscape with several ‘dirty’ works. The first is quite explicit, depicting female masturbation. Beyond its provocative nature, the fresco seems to show a mix of pleasure and aggression. A post-realism that turns Courbet’s lessons into a harsh reality. Another fresco, entitled Caravaggio, represents a sacrifice. Some see this as a call to violence. However, it can also be interpreted as a reference to the chiaroscuro of Renaissance painters. Outside museums walls, artworks often evoke intense emotions. In the heart of the city, intimacy is unexpected, raw and real. This is our very own Sistine Chapel.
