To start this year, Constant celebrates the publication of the manual "How to Cypher Sex: A Manual for Collective Digital Self-Defense Guides". Constant supported the collective Cypher Sex in the making of this "how to" manual that will lay out strategies on how to write locally-oriented digital self-defense guides aimed at empowering LGBTQ* people, women, and sex workers. The manual is intended to help the writing of localised guides with basic outlines, resources, links, suggested approaches and interview questions relevant to different international locations that advocate self-empowerment through online identity management and other digital self-defence strategies.
Cypher Sex is a queer feminist collective aimed at empowering LGBTQ* people, women, and sex workers in their use of online services and digital tools through workshops, guides, and personalized consultancies. Constant happily invited Oddd to design this installation in the window.

Born in Flames
Ten years after the socialist revolution in the USA, the structures of patriarchal society are still in place. A diverse range of women's groups, despite their differences (in race, class and sexuality) take up the struggle. They mobilise and establish a dynamic, varied and non-hierarchical network to resist police assaults. The movement keeps growing despite some internal tension, and takes direct action to topple the current system. This cult film is a must-see for any activist and feminist!

Summer Drift
It's summertime in Geneva and Johanna isn't going on vacation. While she's considering getting rid of her old VW Beetle, she decides to bring it back to life to take on the automotive world that rejected her. This high-octane comedy gently navigates issues of trans-identity, lesbianism and masculinity. Brilliant in its sense of the absurd, drifting, and controlled skids, Virages strips apart the mechanics of liberation and oppression. In late capitalism, this breath of fresh air rings like a call to escape. Punk’s not dead.

Performance - ANAL Pompidou (a bottom-up initiative)
Somewhere deep inside the asshole of performance-artist Simon Van Schuylenbergh you can find a brand new cultural hub called ‘Anal Pompidou’. If you open-up a little more and go even deeper, the topics go further and the performances are wilder, there might be some audience participation of the worst kind, alongside an artisanal bakery and a weird collaboration with the quartier.
Anal Pompidou reflects on the rise and fall of cultural mastodons like KANAL Pompidou, the brand new museum, promised for more than 10 years to the citizens of Brussels in the old Citroën garage, pseudo-financed by a bankrupt Brussels Government. Anal offers you in
style some of the paradoxes the museum symbolizes and the effect it has on art-making and the community it promises to create.
Each night Anal opens the space, and brings 3 different artists active within the Brussels art-field. An eclectic mix of Theater, Dance, performance and visual arts put together in a cabaret setting.
Expect D.I.Y. special effects, meets homosexual desires, meets institutional-diarrhea, meets chaotic energy, meets unsubsidised haemorrhoids, meets you, the audience in the intimacy of the moment.
“i’m so high on art, but so low on money. High meets low, low meets high, where am i?”

BEGIN / OBLIVION,

BEGIN / The Mirror resurrects the history of Medieval beguine communities: lay religious women who were living, working, and practicing their faith together in urban centers throughout the former Low Countries starting in the 12th century. The performance is devoted to a book written by the beguine Marguerite Porete (ca. 1250-1310) entitled The Mirror of the Simple Souls Who Are Annihilated and Remain Only in Will and Desire of Love.
Written in the vernacular and in the form of a play between the characters Love, Reason, and the Soul, Porete lays out seven stages of love that a soul must pass through in order to achieve its total annihilation and complete union with god. Bypassing the papal-monarchal powers of her time by offering women direct access to the divine, the book was condemned in Cambrai, set to flames in Valenciennes, and eventually Porete herself was burned at the stake in Paris.
Through dance, sound, and text, BEGIN / The Mirror embodies each of Porete’s seven stages to explore the movements of medieval mysticism, the spiritual practice of radical love, and the political dimensions of self-annihilation. Cutting through the fabric of centuries to translate, in all our humbleness and by the graces of collectivity, this fated text.

Flesh and Fewl
Étienne is a truck driver and a serious guy, not very talkative, totally dedicated to his job. He is gay, but only permits himself occasional one-night stands in car parks or woodland. When Étienne meets Bartosz, a Polish trucker, new emotions make an appearance. Crushed by the relentless time pressure of their work, the two lovers will need a thousand tricks to meet again. Alexis Manenti's dazzling charisma fuels a film that is all the stronger because it operates on two levels, both romantic and social. This harsh and precarious world makes the perfect setting for an absolutely believable love story.

Icons, 20 years Designer of the Year
In 2006, the first “Designer of the Year” award was presented in Belgium. The prize was originally established by the Interieur Biennale and the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend, and was awarded that year to Brussels-based designer Alain Berteau. Over the years, various partners joined the initiative, and it grew into a well-established reference in the Belgian design landscape.
Twenty years later, the list of laureates reads as a best-of-the-best of what the country has to offer in contemporary design: from ceramic designers and silversmiths to product and lighting designers. Concepts such as innovation, originality, and ecology are often central to their work. The list includes names such as Muller Van Severen, Alain Gilles, Nedda El-Asmar, Julien Renault, and Linde Freya Tangelder. On the occasion of the 20th edition of the title, all twenty names come together in an exhibition at MAD Brussels, on view from 1 October to 12 December.

Pink Memories: from Stonewall (1969) to the emergence of AIDS (1982): queer cinema between self-affirmation, activism and sexual liberation
Hidden, ashamed, and ostracized for decades!
In the 1970s, films began to openly address the lives and demands of gay men, lesbians, and transgender people.
One of the catalysts for these changes was the Stonewall Riots, during which gay men, lesbians, transgender people, sex workers, and homeless youth who frequented the bar took to the streets to respond to daily harassment by the police.
Other factors, such as the sexual revolution and the rise of feminist movements, contributed to the emergence of films in which gay and lesbian characters are (almost) like any other fictional characters, and activist films advocating for equal rights.
On the occasion of its 25th edition, the Pink Screens festival invites you to explore this brief period when screens flourished with films free of taboos and increasingly provocative—films featuring liberated queer people, far removed from the victimization that had been their lot in previous decades.
This diverse—though by no means exhaustive—retrospective is scheduled primarily at Cinematek throughout November.
A lecture by Didier Roth-Bettoni, author of the book “QUEER CINEMA 1895–2025,” will be held on Tuesday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. at LaVallée (39 Rue Adolphe Lavallée - Molenbeek). The theme will be: FROM STONEWALL (1969) TO THE EMERGENCE OF AIDS (1982): QUEER CINEMA BETWEEN ACTIVISM AND SEXUAL LIBERATION.

Club Kid
A wayward thirty-something, part-time party organiser, part-time drug dealer, played by the director himself, suddenly finds himself with a 10-year-old son, Arlo, whose existence he was unaware of, and even though he was convinced he'd never slept with a woman. Forced to take care of the boy, he has to change his life, slow down a bit, and find other ways to deal with his emotions than the ones he puts up his nose...
A candid (and non-judgmental) portrait of the party scene, Club Kid explores the individual journey of its central character, torn between his love of clubbing and the demands (and joys) of fatherhood. A debut film that is both touching and hilarious, filled with iconic and memorable moments.

Bouchra
Bouchra, a Moroccan filmmaker living in New York, is paralysed by the fear of the blank page. A call from her mother in Casablanca brings memories flooding back. Their exchange, tender yet complex, becomes the engine of a creative breakthrough, opening the way to a journey through family ties, lineage, and the first stirrings of love. This animated film, which is formally inventive and imbued with a powerful blend of sensuality and melancholy, explores the memories of coming out through the lens of a mother-daughter relationship, set in a world of anthropomorphic animals.

Through a reverse-chronological narrative that blurs boundaries, this autobiographically inspired queer romance weaves intense connections between memory and desire, amidst the silence of the cities that inhabit us.

Discussion: towards accessible queer cinema
Brussels' queer culture often has to make do with limited resources – and this contributes to further marginalisation of people with disabilities and larger people. How can we do better?
In a socio-economic and political context where Brussels' queer culture struggles to gain traction, and where it is often sustained by precarious and/or volunteer work, it constantly faces the following challenge: how to go on with limited resources?
This often necessitates shortcuts and compromises—and often, this highlights the factors of marginalisation. Among those most affected by these choices are people with disabilities and larger people.
Stairs with no lifts, seats that are too small, cramped spaces, oppressive lighting and noise, lack of subtitles, spoken presentations without sign language interpretation or microphones, illegible information, a lack of disability-related stories in programmes…
Yet, it is sometimes possible to create better access to our community events with limited resources. And sometimes, there's no secret: no investment = exclusion of one or more groups.
Let's talk about it! What are the current possibilities for improving access to queer culture for people with disabilities and larger people? What needs to change?
And on a smaller scale, as we approach our 25th anniversary, it's high time for Pink Screens to ask itself: "How can we make Pink Screens more accessible?" by continuing to build on what we've started within the festival, but also on what has been established within the broader LGBTQIA+ community.

No Rest For The Wicked - Brief Somebodies
It's 1862 on the Faroe Islands, and Baldur lives in a remote fishing community. His life is turned upside down when a rugged whaler arrives, awakening an unquenched desire in him. When tragedy strikes the desolate shores, their forbidden passion unleashes unsettling forces. For they refuse to let their love be buried; they will fight to the death - and even beyond.
No Rest for the Wicked is deliciously gothic, brilliantly blending gay romance, period drama, and vampire story to create a genre film that reinvents the rules.

Drifting Laurent
Laurent ends up at a deserted off-season ski resort, overcome with anxiety. The only reason he’s there—and not somewhere else—is because his sister’s girlfriend has an unoccupied family apartment there. From unlikely encounters (the wonderful Béatrice Dalle) to a more or less botched romantic adventure with a local photographer, the film is often funny and zany. Its greatest strength is its ability to blend this farce with moments of intense melancholy, tenderness, and despair. It sometimes brings Guiraudie to mind, but with more gentleness, warmth, and grace.

OUT LAWS + RED ELEPHANT
OUT LAWS — Lexi Powner, James Lewis
NA/UK — 2025 — 79’ — DOC — VO EN — ST FR
Out Laws is a documentary investigation that follows several activists as they challenge laws criminalising LGBTQIA+ people in their respective countries. All of these countries are former British colonies. We delve into the archives and discover that the laws enacted by the former colonial power are the roots of queerphobia in these societies. This prompts us to question certain assumptions and stand up to governments. The film exposes, on the one hand, the political forces attempting to force queer people back into the closet and, on the other hand, the movement that resists with courage, pride, and solidarity.

In a small Chinese town with straight lines and a cold climate, bodies begin to stir. The slightly eccentric characters make their way through this normative, stifling place, often entering into improbable and astonishing relationships. The film is both lyrical and idiosyncratic in its portrayal of freedom and desire in an extremely normative society. The storylines become intertwined, and the queer narratives burst at the seams even as they're held back. Banned in China, this film is a ballet in black and white, a poetic middle finger to an oppressive regime.

CASTRATION MOVIE. CHAPTER III. JUNIOR GHOSTS – PREMORPHIC DRIFT; A FRAGMENTARY PASSAGE
CASTRATION MOVIE. CHAPTER III. JUNIOR GHOSTS – PREMORPHIC DRIFT; A FRAGMENTARY PASSAGE — Louise Weard
CA — 2026 — 126’ — FIC — VO EN
Castration Movie explores the overt transphobia of Izzy, a straight woman grappling with her partner Tiffany’s transition. It’s a premise that might put us off—were it not for the fact that the film is directed by Louise Weard, a trans woman filmmaker from the same artistic collective as Jane Schoenbrun. Weard’s take on this transmisogynistic spiral proves to be masterful, oscillating between cynicism, empathy, fascination, and horror, and ultimately provoking a true catharsis for anyone who has endured such nonsense.

ÉCRANS CROISÉS : BRUXELLES X BEIJING
A quarter of a century. Pink Screens is all grown up and what a joy it is to look back. On this special occasion, we also looked around. This is how we met the Beijing Queer Film Festival, also celebrating its 25th edition this year! Our two festivals have come together to create a joint programme of shorts from our previous editions, exploring identity in all its forms and the collective memory of our communities. Let’s celebrate 25 years by revisiting who we were, understanding who we are today, and catching a glimpse of who we might become.

THE GOLDEN YEARS
Sebastiane
Sebastiane is a young soldier in a Roman army filled with men who are often naked and engage in homosexual acts. The centurion, Severus, tries to seduce Sebastiane, who rejects him. A reinterpretation of the life of Saint Sebastian, the film is a peplum with unapologetically homoerotic themes, whose visual beauty and power are striking. Transcending the issue of gender and linking rebellion with homosexuality, Derek Jarman already addresses sexuality here in its most political dimension.

La conscience politique - Un portrait de Geoffroy de Lagasnerie
La Conscience politique (Political Consciousness) offers an analysis of our present through a portrait of the philosopher Geoffroy de Lagasnerie. Combining fragments of his life, readings, and archival footage of queer struggles, this film shows us the moment when political thinking is shaped by lived experiences. It unflinchingly examines the judicial and punitive system, family and sexual norms, and institutional and police violence. But above all, this film is a portrait of friendship as a way of life and a form of resistance, as well as an invitation to collective struggle.
The film will be followed by a discussion with director Léolo Victor-Pujebet and Geoffroy de Lagasnerie.

Haute & Freddy
Haute & Freddy is the dazzling brainchild of Michelle Buzz and Lance Shipp. The duo released their first single "Scantily Clad," sparking a devoted fanbase. The song has landed them on Spotify playlists Lorem, Obsessed, and the cover of Fresh Finds paving the way for their second single "Anti-Superstar," which has also been embraced with equal support and looks on multiple Spotify playlists leading to them being named on Spotify’s Artists To Watch for 2026. Their third single “Shy Girl” is currently their most streamed track and has been licensed 5 times over for film & tv projects.
Fast forward to now, and the comment sections are buzzing with fans speaking in Ren Faire lingo, while their shows are filled with attendees crafting their own jester hats, as a mime clown joyfully twists balloon crowns for the rest of the Royal Court—aka H&F’s loyal followers. With their debut album on the horizon and their sold-out Mini Grand Tour under their belt, Haute & Freddy’s momentum is picking up speed. Fans devoured the recently released videos for “Shy Girl”, “Sophie” and “Freaks.” More festivals and tour dates in the works for 2026 when the album drops. Their latest single is a new anthem “Dance The Pain Away” out now, with their debut album Big Disgrace coming out via Atlantic Records on March 13th.
Their love for theater, obscure synths, and underground club culture runs deep, infusing every track with an audacious energy. The duo moves through their music like runaway carnies, crashing through the veneer of polite society with all the flair of an 18th-century escapade.

La Bola Negra
Spain, 1932, 1937, 2017. In three different times, three homosexual men face a society which does not offer them the same freedoms. Their stories reach out to each other, connected by pain, desire and memory. An uncompleted work by Federico Garcia Lorca inspires a film which expands its world into a queer, romantic, poetic tapestry. Eras intertwine and the love stories which history tried to erase continue to echo. An unmissable film from Los Javis, key figures in Spain's contemporary queer cinema.

Conférence: La vie à l’œuvre. Entretien avec Didier Eribon et Geoffroy de Lagasnerie
On the occasion of the screening of La conscience politique, a portrait of Geoffroy de Lagasnerie directed by Léolo Victor-Pujebet, and the reissue of Didier Eribon’s biography of the renowned philosopher Michel Foucault, Pink Screens brings together these two major figures of contemporary thought for an extended conversation at Cinema Palace.
The discussion will begin with the fundamental question of the interplay between thought and life, particularly when those lives are queer lives. How does theoretical work take shape at the intersection of a personal journey, social experiences and a gay life? How can life nourish or embody thought? And, in turn, how can political, sociological or philosophical thinking radically transform a way of life, or even propose new ways of living?
This encounter builds on the questions raised by cinema when it goes beyond simply portraying lives or ideas and instead shows how thought takes shape through bodies, gestures and stories, making the screen a unique space for dialogue between work and existence. An encounter between art and life that echoes one of Foucault’s powerful final ideas, shortly before his death from AIDS, concerning the possibility of an “aesthetics of existence”: can we make each individual’s life into a work of art?
Didier Eribon is a sociologist and philosopher. He is the author of numerous works, including Réflexions sur la question gay, Retour à Reims and Michel Foucault, 1926-1984, a new edition of which has recently been published in Flammarion’s Champs collection.
Geoffroy de Lagasnerie is a sociologist and philosopher. His works include 3. Une aspiration au dehors. Éloge de l’amitié, Par delà le principe de répression. Dix leçons sur l’abolitionnisme pénal and L’âme noire de la démocratie. All three were published by Flammarion.

While on holiday, Juan finds a stray dog. This man-animal, initially fearful, reveals a gentle, beautiful, tender, and docile side. Juan takes him in, bathes him, feeds him, and a mutual affection develops between the two.
In this delightfully absurd fairy tale, animal desires and instincts take on a strangely literal form, to the point that strokes on the belly and slobbery kisses on the mouth can become the height of homoeroticism. Sensual, funny, whimsical, fascinating, and unsettling, this film explores themes of relationships, polyamory, identity, and gender.

Expect a surprising, percussive and punchy set. For Pink Night, he teams up with Petite Fleur (video) for an A/V set that will delight your ears and dazzle your eyes! Get ready to bust out your best dance moves!
Elkka (UK)
After inviting a London-based artist for the first time last year, we once again looked to the British capital this year. That's where we found Elkka, not only founder of the label Femme Culture, but also of the queer parties 'Prism of Pleasure'. Since we're suckers for a 'sweaty steamy love affair', there was no doubt in our minds. We're thrilled to present this Welsh DJ and producer, whose queer awakening happened in London. Her sound moves between anthemic, vocal-led euphoria and hazy, low-slung deep house — euphoric and sultry all at once.
Love Chaos Again
Love Chaos Again brings together three enfant terribles of Brussels’ nightlife, joining forces to bring the PinkScreens festival to a joyful close. The fusion of their worlds creates a new, hybrid and bouncy creature: soft-hearted, raw in energy, and fiercely eager to bring together all the queeros of the city and other galaxies.
Nazanin
You might already know Iranian artist and DJ Nazanin as Floèmee, her musical project whose single 'Bracts recall' is set to drop later this year. In her DJ sets, she takes you through bass-heavy, breakbeat-driven club music from around the world. She draws inspiration not only from the bass scene, but also from leftfield techno, experimental club sounds, and IDM, which occasionally creep into her sets.

about
Ettijahat – Independent Culture was founded in Syria in 2011 and has since become one of the most active organisations supporting Arab arts in exile. With legal status in Belgium (ASBL) and deep roots across the Arab cultural landscape, Ettijahat operates at the intersection of two worlds – embedded in the realities of cultural production in the Arab region and fluent in the institutional logics of the European sector.
For over a decade, Ettijahat has developed sustained programmes supporting artists working under conditions of displacement, precarity, and political constraint, through residencies, production grants, mobility support, advocacy, and the creation of transnational networks. Rawabet is the most ambitious expression of this commitment to date, bringing together partners across five European countries to support emerging artists through a full three-year development arc.
This dual anchoring – in Europe and the Arab world – shapes the organisation's approach. Ettijahat neither imports nor exports culture; it works at the point where the two landscapes meet, with all the tension and possibility that entails.

Mineshaft : The Cruising Murders
The production and release of William Friedkin's 1980 film Cruising provoked outrage and protest from some sections of the era's queer community. In Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders, Jeffrey Schwarz investigates both the controversy around Cruising, and the real-life murder which inspired Friedkin to make it. This captivating documentary shines a nuanced light on a complex matter.

Exhibition Opening: Radical Pillow Talk
What happens in the bedroom does not always remain confined to that space. Radical Pillow Talk brings together 7 artists exploring desire, fantasy, dreams, and the spaces of queer lives: bedrooms, streets, clubs, cruising spots, and imaginary landscapes. These places can offer freedom, pleasure, and escape, but also solitude, vulnerability, and danger. Marking the 25th anniversary of Pink Screens, this exhibition examines how dreams and desire can become radical acts, and how intimate fantasies can open up to a collective dimension. In dialogue with Queer Resistance, this exhibition traverses the intimate spaces where resistance can emerge.

Shakespeare Revisited
Belgian singer, pianist and composer Caroll Vanwelden has developed a musical language of her own, rooted in jazz and enriched by pop, chamber music and electronics. Her music is intimate, atmospheric and cinematic.
With Shakespeare Revisited, she gives Shakespeare’s sonnets a surprising new life as contemporary songs. No classical recitation, but music in which the words become lyrics for melodies that can be fragile and intimate, yet also powerful and compelling. Love, desire, doubt and the passing of time sound remarkably close, even more than 400 years later.
Together with Dominique Vantomme on keyboards & electronics and Jean-François Assy on cello & electronics, Caroll creates a rich and expressive sound world where voice, piano, cello and electronics meet.
An intimate and adventurous encounter between Shakespeare and the sound of today, somewhere between jazz, song and cinema.

MAD Parcours 2026
From Thursday 12 to Saturday 14 November, MAD Brussels presents the third edition of MAD Parcours, the annual event opening up Brussels’ fashion and design scene to the public. Over three days, Brussels-based creatives take over the city centre, transforming the capital into a vibrant creative trail.
This third edition brings together a diverse range of Brussels-based creatives across studios, boutiques, concept stores, galleries, showrooms and other iconic local addresses. Throughout the parcours, participating venues will host encounters with creatives, collection presentations, launches, demonstrations of craftsmanship, installations, as well as a selection of pieces and objects to discover or (re)discover and, for those who wish, to take home. It is an opportunity to step inside places that may be less familiar, meet the people shaping Brussels’ creative scene, and discover creations, collections and objects that reflect the diversity of approaches and expertise found across the city.
To help visitors find their way, MAD Parcours offers several thematic routes, allowing everyone to explore the city according to their interests. Independent fashion, collectible design, contemporary jewellery, contemporary ceramics or new creative addresses: each route highlights a different facet of Brussels’ rich creative scene, while encouraging visitors to venture beyond the usual circuits and rediscover the independent businesses that form part of it. A printed map, available at MAD Brussels and at participating venues, allows everyone to freely create their own itinerary and explore the city at their own pace.
Conceived as a journey of discovery, MAD Parcours offers a different way of experiencing Brussels: by following the thread of its creativity. The event shines a light on both emerging talents and established creatives, celebrates independent businesses and venues, and invites visitors to discover a local scene renowned for its diversity, boldness and spirit of innovation.
This initiative is supported by Entreprendre Bruxelles, Local Guide and the Alderman for Economic Affairs.

Au Pairs
Legendary cult band is back in full force
Au Pairs is a post-punk band that was originally established in 1978 and soon became a true cult band. Legendary journalist Lester Bangs once said: “Last night I saw God in the form of the Au Pairs”. After a long hiatus, the band has reformed with a new line-up that includes original frontwoman Lesley Woods – once described as “one of the most striking women in British rock”. Together with Estella Adeyeri (Big Joanie) on bass, Alex Ward (known for his work with Thurston Moore and Pere Ubu) on guitar and Jem Doulton (also associated with Thurston Moore) on drums, Woods breathes new life into the band’s repertoire and underscores its continued relevance in a contemporary context. Au Pairs is known for combining politically engaged and feminist themes with a danceable sound, driven by a tight rhythm section and edgy, duelling guitars heavily influenced by funk. Their live shows are direct and compelling: rhythm-driven, tightly executed and focused on forging a strong connection with the audience. The result is a set that feels as urgent as it is intense, and leaves the audience energised and fully engaged.

New York Our Time - Vivienne Dick
In the presence of the film director
New York Our Time (IR, 2020, 79', DCP) is an intimate and reflective documentary that celebrates both the past and present of New York's Lower East Side, as it was experienced by Dick after moving there in the late 1970s. In the film, Dick revisits former haunts and reconnects with a number of friends, many of whom continue to work as artists in the city despite rising rents and ongoing gentrification. The interviewees include photographer Nan Goldin and Alexis Adler, performer Lydia Lunch, visual artist Cynthia Sley, musician Pat Place, singer Felice Rosser, among others. A tribute to friendship, particularly women's friendships, as well as to community, artistic resilience, and memory in a rapidly changing urban landscape. The film is preceded by short-film Staten Island, directed by the artist in 1978.
The audience will be then invited to participate to the conversation between film director Vivienne Dick and Isobel Harbison, Irish art historian and senior lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Staten Island (USA, 1978, 5'53'', HD Video from Super-8mm) A low budget sci-fi short, where an androgynous alien, played by Pat Place, emerges from the sea to sift through rubbish on a beach. This film was originally intended to be part of a longer collaborative work to be made by a group of women called Les Guérilléres, after the radical feminist book of the same name by Monique Wittig.

VUB and KVS explore ghost memory and how memory and reality are shaped and reimagined from different perspectives.
What happens to stories that are not allowed to be told? To memories that are suppressed? Or to knowledge that has never been considered valuable? In this edition of Mindblowers, VUB and KVS bring together artists and researchers from Belgium and Latin America around the theme of ghost memory: stories, people and knowledge that have been forgotten, erased or pushed to the margins, yet have never completely disappeared.Through personal stories, artistic projects and academic research, the speakers explore what endures when people are forced to flee, when histories are forgotten, or when certain voices remain unheard. You will hear about Syrian journalists continuing their work in exile, a woman who was abducted as a baby during the Argentine dictatorship, forms of knowledge that have been pushed to the margins for generations, and artists imagining alternative narratives about the past and the future.Expect an evening of art, research and personal testimonies in which ghost memories take shape: things that seemed forgotten, yet never truly disappeared. With contributions by Claudix Vanesix, Claudia Poblete, Yazan Badran, Adriana Moreno Cely and Laura Vandewynckel. Speakers Yazan Badran is a lecturer and researcher at VUB. For Mindblowers, he draws on his research with Syrian journalists living in exile in Istanbul. Their story shows how knowledge, language and journalistic practices continue to exist when people are forced to leave their country. Through his research on media, politics and diasporic communities, he explores who is recognized as a legitimate knowledge holder and how stories, memories and experiences can cross borders without being lost.Adriana Moreno Cely is an activist, researcher and lecturer at VUB. During Mindblowers, she presents her lecture-performance PULPO. Using the octopus as a metaphor, she explores how colonial ideas about race, knowledge, progress and development continue to shape our societies today. Through storytelling, personal experience and critical reflection, she examines which forms of knowledge are recognized and which are systematically pushed to the margins.Laura Vandewynckel is a filmmaker, theatre maker and researcher. During Mindblowers, she draws on her project Let the Sea Take Away All Evil, set on the Brazilian island of Itaparica. Together with local artists and residents, she explores how hopes for change, progress and a better future take shape through stories, rituals and collective imagination. Her work examines how communities respond to social change and how stories help make sense of both the past and the future.PerformancesXenocene: A Manifesto in MotionClaudix Vanesix will share a lecture performance called Xenocene: A Manifesto in Motion."Xenocene" challenges human dominance over meaning by juxtaposing human “reality” with the "xenoreality" produced by an AI system. Is the world we perceive the only one that exists? Or merely one perspective among many, entangled in a post-human ontology where non-human intelligences also claim agency? ClaudiaClaudia by La Conquesta del Pol Sud is the second part of the trilogy exploring the relationship between history and identity through the story of Claudia Poblete.Claudia Victoria Poblete Hlaczik lives in Buenos Aires, works as an IT technician and is passionate about science fiction. Claudia leads a “normal” life, but behind this appearance lies an extraordinary life story. She grew up immersed in the values of a military environment, until, at the age of 21, she discovered that her biological parents were 'desaparecidos' (people who were secretly arrested, tortured and murdered under a military dictatorship) and that the life she had known was fabricated. Her case led to an important turning point in Argentina because it meant the beginning of the end of the military leadership’s impunity. Claudia’s life experience, which is communicated by herself on stage, is the primary material this theatrical documentary is based on. What do some individuals’ experiences have to do with us? What is the meaning of words like revolution, memory, and education today?

SML brings together five musicians from Los Angeles, each of whom has made their mark on the jazz, improvisation, and indie scenes. Bassist Anne Butterss, saxophonist Josh Johnson, guitarist Gregory Uhlmann, synthesizer player Jeremiah Chiu, and percussionist Booker Stardrum are united by a shared interest in sound, rhythm, and improvisation. In their music, electronics and acoustic instruments merge organically into an intricate sonic tapestry. Short motifs and pulsing rhythms build into a continuous flow of sound, rich in repetition and open to improvisation. Live, SML creates a hypnotic sound in which everything is constantly in motion, yet each layer ultimately falls into place.

Rectum Crocodile
Rectum Crocodile may sound like the title of a dark, unconventional novel but it is in fact a fabulous tale with characters parading around in splendour. Ghosts, people and beasts mingle, the trees speak and collectively this beautiful world tries to atone for a stubborn colonialism.
In the heart of a colonial plantation, living and dead creatures parade by and cross paths, guided by the mischievous and enigmatic voice of a child. Straight out of the carnivale-like imagination of the Caribbean, various figures face us while reciting poems and incantations. Rectum Crocodile is a magical tale, a political and danced fable that seeks to exorcise the ghosts of white supremacy in the 'New World'. Marvin M'toumo is both director and designer and here offers us a profound and feverish creation in which gestures mingle with words and the two merge into dance. The carefully designed costumes add to the wondrous dimension. Just as its creator, the piece sits at the intersection of several arts such as dance, performance, theatre and poetry. It draws on both on the European world of stage and the Caribbean fantasy worlds, both having history as a common thread. Amidst a lush plantation, nature and people question slavery, colonialism and all forms of domination. This dance poem is a polyphony of intersecting voices and bodies that is a both radiant and dazzling pamphlet against discrimination and oppression. Rectum Crocodile, produced in collaboration with Théâtre Varia, is both a roar and a manifesto. Dazzling and bold in its grandeur, the play evokes the colonial past and calls it to account. It underlines the importance of continuing to dig collectively into this shared heritage. • Marvin M'toumo is an artist whose unique poetry transcends academic distinctions between art, theatre, literature and fashion. He expresses his sensitivity in the fluidity of a practice without compartments and where he makes identities, stereotypes and archetypes the centre of a critical poetics full of symbols, humour and dramaturgy. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Villa Arson in Nice in 2016 and the Haute Ecole d'Arts et de Design (HEAD) in Geneva in 2019. Rectum Crocodile is his second theatrical creation after Concours de larmes (2022), which he wrote, directed, performed and for which he designed the set and costumes. In fashion, he has worked with Chanel's Lognon atelier and the house of Jean Paul Gaultier.

Endless Summer Camp
A performer who trained in drama at the Conservatoire de Mons and in dance at Berlin’s Tanzfabrik, Sophie Guisset bases her works on observations around queer spaces, and the social organisation and political dimensions of these spaces. “I want to explore how the scene can become a space of vulnerability shared with the public, where stories of sexuality are considered with humour and sensitivity.”Three themes run through Endless Summer Camp : heterotopia, the Other space that suspends day-to-day rules; the figure of the tomboy, who challenges gender norms; and a strong preference for fantasies that stray from the beaten track. Subjects, materials and costumes are subverted, scales modified, time stretched, forming with the four performers a strangely familiar universe, with a view to inviting the audience to “share a collective erotic tension”.

In Endless Summer Camp, Sophie Guisset extends her research into spaces of freedom and unexpected alliances. Drawing on her personal experience within scouting, she adopts its framework and structure but only in order to subvert its codes.
Welcome to a utopian summer camp for adults only, where performers create a temporary troupe and together explore desire, transgression and joy. Just as in the woods back then, the aim is to use one’s imagination to invent, build and organize a space for play, and to become one with the group.
Here, vice, perversion and self-transcendence are not taboos, but sources of pleasure and pride. The scouting spirit – facing the unexpected with ingenuity, being attentive to the world around us – becomes the driving force behind an intimate and collective exploration of desire and sexuality, experienced with vulnerability, humour and sensitivity.
Endless Summer Camp invites us to rethink our relation to desire and to imagine, together, new relational scenarios … and under the sun.

Rico Rica takes the codes of the party — deconstructed reggaeton, guaracha, champeta, dembow — and pulls them apart in real time, letting the percussion breathe, the bass stutter, the samples slip out of place. It is a hybrid set: DJ and live performance in the same body, which is exactly where it belongs. She has just released a new single, and it is a serious statement of intent — the kind of record that sounds like the future of the dancefloor arriving early. Come hear it where it was meant to be heard.SHILITA (French — Colombian) Two homes, two bloodlines, one set. Shilita moves between reggaeton and salsa with the ease of someone who never learned to keep them apart — the sharpness of the urban club against the warmth and swing of the tropical tradition. It is a DJ set built on instinct and heritage, and it lands soft, hot and heavy all at once.MALDITA VAINA MALDITA VAINA — Dominican Sudanese DJ and multidisciplinary artist, based in Itabo, Dominican Republic (they/them/elle). Her/his profile describes the project as "a fantastical queer and irreverent Caribbean (post) club wake", and the sets juxtapose Caribbean riddims, African electronica and Afro- and Arab-diasporic club sounds — running through dembow, bouyon, dancehall, baile funk, cargo tech, Afro digital and Afro-diasporic club. The curation is explicitly centred on Black, trans and queer producers. Selected works include a DEMBOW VOL. 1 mix and a guest mix for Foundation.FM in London. Also a Prince Claus Fund awardee.RICKY CORAZÓN Chilean by birth, Brussels by life. Ricky Corazón is a DJ, curator and organiser whose eclecticism is the whole point — a sonic journey from cumbia to guaracha, by way of Latin house, tribal, neoperreo and dembow. Founder of the Gelatina parties and co-founder of Viciosa, he builds festive, inclusive spaces that celebrate queer and Latinx diversity. Osamu Shikichi — ur phantom eyes, our crystalized pains
ur phantom eyes, our crystallized pains (2020–) is an ongoing dance performance building on Shikichi’s choreographic practice over the years. Playing with wet (weird erotic tension) images or images of pain—such as a crucified body or the treatment of phantom limbs—the performance builds plural concepts of the body. Using their tongue to create and lick images, Shikichi imagines it as a screen and a third hand, praying and speaking to a new political eye which they cast on the human body. In doing so, the performance introduces doubts about our ideas of human bodies, remixing and hacking systems that determine what a body is in relation to the gaze.
about
Osamu Shikichi is a choreographer and dancer from Japan. Their practice questions the human body as something often taken for granted, challenging notions of bodily self-possession and identity. Shikichi explores the idea of the anonymous body through performance, video and mediated sculptures, blurring and remixing how bodies are recognised, gazed upon and politicised. Drawing on personal experiences of dissonance between body and mind, their work focuses on wet movements, ASMR-like sensations and the circulation of affects across human and non-human bodies.

Lude & les métamorphoses: Release Party de l'EP MASCARADES
Lude & les métamorphoses is a musical project featuring the dream-pop-electro compositions of Lude Vial, Zach Ruegg, and Valentin Perroud (Pylone). The group, which performs live as a trio with Pierre Ferrand (drums, bass, and vocals/keyboards), explores personal and intimate themes related to trans identity, disillusionment, dreams, and resilience, using various images and symbols.
The musical performance also draws on the world of childhood, various fairy tales, and pop culture references to reimagine their relevance today. Through a poetic and surrealistic universe, Lude & les métamorphoses seek to create new spaces to shed light on certain experiences and emotions through music.
At their release party at La Tricoterie in Brussels on November 27, 2026, they will unveil their debut EP, *MASCARADES*, conceived as a short 8-track album, mixed by Shinji Hashimoto and mastered by Remy Lebbos (Rare Sound Studio).

Le Shit Show x Anal Pompidou
The Shit Show is an underground cabaret in Marseille heavily inspired by British punk culture, where anything can happen. Absurdity and even stupidity are embraced there as political tools. And that inevitably leads to colorful performances where “shit” and “show” are constantly intertwined.
So how could we not associate them with Anal Pompidou, the Marolles cabaret led by performance artist Simon Van Schuylenberg and his husband Steven Sommereyns? With their “Bottom-up” initiative, specializing in “D.I.Y. trash,” Anal hopes that rents will soon drop in Louise, Dansaert, Petit Sablon, Grand Sablon, in front of the European Parliament, and throughout the municipality of Uccle.

You were taught to stay quiet.
To soften your words.
To hide your accent.
To lower your volume until you became easier to accept.
We refuse.
Every language.
Every laugh.
Every shout across the dancefloor.
Every body that refuses to apologize for taking up space.
Your voice is more than something you speak with.
It is your history.
Your identity.
Your resistance.
Tonight, there is no script to follow.
No role to perform.
No permission to ask for.
Speak loudly.
Dance loudly.
Exist loudly.
Not because you need to be heard.
But because you were never meant to disappear.

Axelle Red
Axelle Red receives MIA Lifetime Achievement Award and presents brand new album.
Her most recent studio album of own work, Exil, was released eight years ago. Her last visit to AB dates from late 2025 and it surprised us too when she turned up on stage here as an unannounced special guest of Roméo Elvis & Oscar and the Wolf.In the meantime, Axelle Red took the time to set the bar very high for new songs, often up-tempo, with lyrics that can be read at many levels. Her new, long-awaited album is to be released at the end of 2026. And we are more than happy to share our AB with her for that. For more than three decades, the Belgian singer-songwriter, pop and soul diva has been responsible for a long list of iconic songs like Sensualité, Parce que c’est toi, Je t’attends, Elle danse seule, Le monde tourne mal, À tâtons, Ma prière, Rester femme and Rouge ardent. With thirteen albums, millions of copies sold and tens of millions of streams every year, she developed - as humanist and feminist – into a unique artist who effortlessly combines emotion and commitment.Axelle’s debut album Sans plus attendre was released in 1993. The pop-soul album was an unprecedented success: with more than 500,000 copies sold, it became one of the best selling albums in Belgian music history. Thanks to the concerts that followed and her second album À tâtons – recorded with some of the best known American soul musicians – she made her definitive international breakthrough. She developed into an artist who not only made pop history but also commanded respect from musical icons worldwide. Her timeless songs are now being covered by a new generation of French artists, such as Vianney, Clara Luciani, Juliette Armanet and Julien Doré and recently even by Dua Lipa, during her concert at the Sportpaleis in Antwerp. In addition to her musical successes, Axelle developed further as an activist. She campaigned for human rights, worked together with UNICEF, was an ambassador for Handicap International and spoke out about the position of women worldwide long before #MeToo.This commitment took on a powerful form on her album Sisters & Empathy (2009), entirely devoted to injustice towards women, child marriage and female genital mutilation: issues she was directly confronted with during her humanitarian work. Whereas she sang on Sans plus attendre: “Le monde tourne mal… Let’s dance”, after Sisters & Empathy she felt the need to do more to use her music as a voice for change. This combination of passion, sensitivity and altruism is a running theme throughout her career: “It’s about all of us being able to seize our opportunities and pursue our happiness, but we have to ask ourselves to what extent we make others pay the price for this.”Her approach to performing has also evolved: “In the past it was veni, vidi, vici, see what I can do. Now I mainly seek ways to share something with an audience, to make real contact.” And that is exactly what makes her concerts so unique. Today, Axelle Red is stronger than ever on stage. Few artists know how to build such a consistent career while remaining innovative at the same time.

Indiepopduo is back with new album
No "bathroom floor", but a dance floor for Kids With Buns! The Belgian indie pop duo is back with a new album and can't wait to perform it live!Composed of Amber Piddington and Marie Van Uytvanck, Kids With Buns caused a sensation with their debut album “Out of Place,” concerts in legendary venues such as Ancienne Belgique, De Roma, De Vooruit, and OLT Rivierenhof, as well as a notable appearance on the VTM show “Liefde Voor Muziek.” The duo will release their highly anticipated second album this year. After both going through breakups, the duo started writing songs. They moved to Philadelphia to collaborate with Jacob Blizard, former producer and guitarist for Lucy Dacus (member of Boygenius). There, they grew closer than ever, writing songs to support each other and recharge their batteries. Inspired by a chaotic period of sleepless nights and heartbreak, they created their most accomplished, profound, and ambitious work to date. Thanks to notable performances on the main stages of Belgian festivals, such as Pukkelpop, and concerts across Europe, Kids With Buns have built a solid live reputation. Their concerts offer sincere interpretations of vulnerable songs and intense experiences, touching every audience. This concert is a co-production between Live Nation and Ancienne Belgique.

Samir Kennedy + Sean Murray — IT'S GOT LEGS!!!!!!
IT’S GOT LEGS!!!!!! was born from the question what other forms emerge when queer historical forms, icons and divas from broadway and beyond are forced into a prison of poe faced postmodernism: Can the high camp and the minimal share a stage?
The result is an infinite, infernal foreplay of a ‘cabaret’ to expose the precarity of constructing a performance and of constructing the self. Using the basic tools of theatre and DIY performance – microphones, speakers, lights and set – Samir Kennedy and Sean Murray question if the way we produce our identities is all that different to how we put on a show.
Embracing the ugliness and chaotic beauty of becoming and unbecoming, IT’S GOT LEGS!!!!!! traces the intricate dances of subjugation, subversion and seduction we’re all forced into as performers, as artists, and as humans. Operating within a complex space of non-arrival, most of the time the duo appears to be just trying to get on with it...
Prepare yourselves for a seemingly never-ending revue of vulgar, visceral, and vampy renditions of the long lost “numbers" that lurk in the depths of our minds. References abound to familiar double acts alongside double entendres as Samir and Sean unearth the only real concrete thing there is in this life and in this business: instability

Les Enfants endormis - Reprise
A man delves into his family archives—yellowed photos, Super 8 films—to understand and to remember. The 1980s. The “AIDS” years. Images of his uncle Désiré, who died of what was then called “the disease of drug addicts and fags.”
At the intersection of autobiographical narrative and documentary investigation, the text traces the emergence of AIDS in the author’s family, while delving behind the scenes of international medical research: the race to identify the virus, the quest for a treatment, the dead ends, the hopes, and the rivalry between French and American researchers.
Forty years after Désiré’s death, Anthony Passeron undertakes a two-pronged investigation:
one into family history, revealing the mechanisms of silence, shame, and denial;
and one into scientific history, a global medical epic interwoven with the personal.
“I tried to understand what people in my grandparents’ village might have known about this disease at that time. (…) Only writing could set this story straight.”
— Anthony Passeron
On stage, four performers bring to life the tension between personal and collective history, between intimate memory and collective history.

La Parabole du Seum • Rébecca Chaillon
In the face of the world’s rapidly growing fascist tendencies, Rébecca Chaillon breathes new life into our imagination with a science-fiction fable in which survival goes hand in hand with magic.
In the face of the world’s rapidly growing fascist tendencies, Rébecca Chaillon breathes new life into our imagination with a science-fiction fable in which survival goes hand in hand with magic.
After Plutôt vomir que faillir, which was widely acclaimed in our house in 2024, Rébecca Chaillon’s new work echoes and references Octavia Butler’s cult novel Parable of the Sower, in which we follow a teenage girl who invents her own religion in order to survive in a devastated world. The artist wanted to take this idea further: ‘I have magical faith, and it’s one of my strategies as a Black, fat, ageing, childless lesbian woman’.
By seeking to deconstruct the mechanisms of exclusion, Rébecca Chaillon forges new mythologies focused on queer representations nourished by astrology and superstitions. She proposes a narrative in which fat, racialized, queer bodies can simply exist, free from normative injunctions. La Parabole du Seum is at once an exciting performance and an act of resistance, shifting perspectives and, above all, inciting us to dream differently.
All performances are available in the Relax format.
The stories featured in this production deal with fatphobia, queerphobia, racism, transphobia, sexism and sexual violence. This show contains scenes of nudity and uses smoke.

Junior Mthombeni and Michael De Cock orchestrate a brilliant adaptation of London-based Inua Ellams’ hit play about contemporary black masculinities.
Junior Mthombeni and Michael De Cock orchestrate a brilliant adaptation of London-based Inua Ellams’ hit play about contemporary black masculinities.
It is the final of the Champions League, and barber shops are bustling in Kinshasa, Ouagadougou, Douala, Dakar, Abidjan and Brussels. As the clippers buzz, thousands of stories are shared. Indeed, for African men and men of African descent, the barber shop is where you can come together and share stories. A true safe space, the barber shop becomes a social place where any subject can be discussed: sports, relationships and education, but also exile, religion and politics.
The open and generous set, with no backstage, recreates the vibrancy of the city: colourful costumes, music and dancing create a festive atmosphere full of energy. But beneath the humour and palpable joy lies the false bottom of a show that is as militant as it is joyful, committed to outlining the contours of a possible brotherhood.

BONJOUR MADEMOISELLEKE
About embarrassing moments in the fry shopand mothers who come out of telephones.About small thoughts that become biggerand big feelings that shrink.About hormones and a growing moustache, about wearing skirts and armpit hair.About girls and boys and pigeonholes. Or maybe it’s not all that black and white? In BONJOUR MADEMOISELLEKE, Lukas’ love for theatre and illustration meet. This performance is a live graphic novel that unfolds one drawing at a time. In this visual quest for gender identity, Lukas takes inspiration from conversations, situations and feelings he has experienced himself. This stream of images, thoughts, words and feelings is accompanied by live melodica, accordion and electric organ.BONJOUR MADEMOISELLEKE is a performance for young and old where subjects like identity, gender, and the search for yourself are presented with a healthy dose of curiosity, care and humour.Winner of the Boze Wolf prize for ‘up-and-coming talent’ at the Boze Wolf Festival 2025.

Anne Clark & Band
'Edge Of Silence'
Anne Clark returns in 2027 with “Edge Of Silence,” a tour set against a world that feels close to its own breaking point. She steps back into the spotlight as a witness rather than a commentator, using decades of creative evolution to frame a moment marked by tension and uncertainty. Since the early eighties, Clark has been one of the defining figures linking electronic music, spoken word and post punk. Her influence threads through both underground movements and mainstream culture. Concert halls across Europe, the USA and Canada have carried her voice. Tracks like “Sleeper in Metropolis” and “Our Darkness” remain touchstones for listeners who grew up with them and for younger audiences discovering them anew. The 2027 tour is not a retrospective. It leans on her history only to sharpen the present. Clark and her band construct a sound that shifts between electronic edge and acoustic detail. Long familiar pieces reappear with a more distilled focus. New material looks directly at a world where calm is fragile. “Edge Of Silence” offers a space stripped of distraction. Words and sound are placed with precision. Atmosphere matters as much as impact. Clark performs with the clarity of someone who has seen cultural cycles rise, fall and return in unexpected forms. Her voice has followed audiences through many unsettled periods. In 2027, she stands at another threshold, observing it with the same steady lens that has defined her work for more than four decades.

The post-hardcore band is back in full force with ‘WIRED’
Basement is a British band from Suffolk that effortlessly combines post-hardcore, emo, grunge and alternative rock. Since their debut in 2009, they have become a cult favourite thanks to their mix of gritty guitars, compelling melodies, big choruses and emotional intensity. Albums like Colourmeinkindness, Promise Everything and Beside Myself made them an established name on the international alternative guitar scene. After an eight-year writing hiatus, the five original band members are back with WIRED, their first album since 2018. The album sounds familiar yet ambitious, with influences of R.E.M., Interpol, The Smashing Pumpkins and a raw production by John Congleton (St. Vincent). Meanwhile, their 2012 track Covet has been given an unexpected second lease of life thanks to TikTok, resulting in an entire new generation of fans.

Vies infimes, vies infâmes - Quelques réflexions sur la photographie queer
Hélène Giannecchini, writer and curator
This lecture examines the regimes that have historically shaped, and continue to determine, the presence of gender minorities in the photography. Archival erasure and the scarcity of visual sources coexist, paradoxically, with stereotypical hypervisibility. In the face of these impositions, emancipatory practices - such as self-representation, community archives and the subversion of visual codes - are reshaping our relationship with the medium. The aim is therefore to uncover the mechanisms through which photography, far from being a mere vehicle for representation, actively participates in the social construction of gender identities and may, depending on how it is used, either reinforce norms or become a tool for subjective reappropriation.Hélène Giannecchini is a French writer, art theorist and curator. With a PhD in literature, she specialises in the relationship between text and image, as well as the history of photography and contemporary art. She has devoted a significant part of her research to the photographer and writer Alix Cléo Roubaud, for whom she curated a major retrospective at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in 2014. She has taught at the École européenne supérieure de l'image and was a fellow at the Villa Medici (2018-2019) and subsequently at the Villa Albertine. Her best-known books include Une image peut-être vraie (2014), Voir de ses propres yeux (2020) and Un désir démesuré d'amitié. Her recent work focuses in particular on LGBTQI+ archives, minority narratives and the cultural history of queer communities.

The Black Circus of The Republic of Bantu
In The Black Circus of The Republic of Bantu, Albert Ibokwe Khoza confronts the colonial legacy of human exhibitions and the gaze on the Black body.
Exhibits showcasing artefacts and actual people were popular in the western world during the colonial period. How do we deal with a shameful legacy that echoes into the present? Should we seek to erase it, bury it in the history books, or resurrect and acknowledge this difficult past? This work dwells heavily on the early recorded study of black bodies as a "different species" to the white man. Many argue these shameful episodes from of our history should not be simply forgotten, but should stand as a testament to a shameful, and often uncomfortable past. The Black Circus of the Republic of Bantu brings about an ethnic beauty and pride that was over generations damaged, dragged and stripped of its dignity let alone the Royal lineage that is bestowed on our different shades of brown skin and curly hair, lives and values. The artists write: “We pay tribute to the spirit of Sarah Baartman and the many Africans whose lives and bodies were turned into a spectacle for white supremacist pleasure. We pay homage to our ancestry who gave up everything for the benefit of the world at large.”

Don Quixote, Which Was a Dream
With Don Quixote, Life is But A Dream, based upon Kathy Acker's novel, Nona Demey Gallagher creates a satirical universe full of grotesque archetypal figures, where politics, (pop) culture and madness are inextricably linked. See the performance in KVS Br
Through an iconic character, Nona Demey Gallagher creates a distinctive universe where humour and social critique collide with a wild imagination. For the first time, Nona Demey Gallagher (A Room Of His Own, Copyriot, Up Your Ass,…) takes on a classic from the repertoire: Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. The story of a wandering knight who, driven by chivalric ideals, mistakes windmills for giants, has become one of the most renowned novels in world literature. This theatrical reimagining draws on an adaptation by experimental punk writer Kathy Acker. Her novel Don Quixote: Which Was a Dream (1986) transforms the Spanish nobleman into an American dreamer searching for love in a loveless society. Together with writer Jana Antonissen, Gallagher develops a contemporary quest in which dreams are not an escape from reality, but a way of reshaping it.With Gene Bervoets, Zita Windey, Lotte Vanhamel, Jonathan Kazanga Linga, Fiene Zasada, Romy Louise Lauwers and live music composed by Nid & Sancy.

En peau de pêche
Discover En peau de pêche by Dounia Mahammed at KVS, a poetic performance about discrimination, pain and finding comfort.
En peau de pêche shares a series of thoughts that form a rhythmic poem; an atypical song about being crossed out and crossing yourself out, about repressing oppressive memories. About erasing what was and washing what is. About what can happen to someone when ableist, racist, sexist gazes and words run rampant beneath your skin. A playful, colourful, musical performance. NOTE ON (ARTISTIC) LANGUAGES AND ACCESSIBILITYThis performance aims to connect with everyone: individual needs, diverse backgrounds, unique bodies. peau de pêche strives to be sensory-friendly and chooses wheelchair-accessible venues. Before the performance begins, information about accessibility is available at the reception. Half an hour before the show starts, you can speak to a staff member there to get to know the set and performers in the space. A technician can show you the brightest lights or the loudest sounds. If you prefer to sit close to the exit, a reserved seat can be arranged for you.The performance lasts 50 minutes without an intermission. The doors to the venue open 5 minutes before the start of the performance. The full narrative is presented in both spoken Dutch and Flemish Sign Language. To allow space for the poetry of these languages, not everything is translated or told literally and simultaneously. Sometimes Sign Language tells the story, sometimes music, images, spoken language, or animated written language. We perform in an intimate, open setting. Moving in and out, making noise, or shifting around is not discouraged; the door always remains slightly open. Loud sounds or bright lights are avoided but will be announced if they do occur. Staff members are available to talk to, and there is a quiet space for anyone who wishes to decompress.Projections, music, and a smoke machine are used. This work deals with psychological challenges resulting from discrimination. There is no explicit violence in the performance, but sensitive themes are approached in a poetic way.

M. Butterfly
Based on a true story
In Mao’s China, French diplomat René Gallimard is enchanted by the captivating opera singer Song Liling. The two begin a passionate affair that lasts twenty years, until they are arrested. In court, it is revealed that all this time, unbeknown to Gallimard, Song was not only a man in drag, but also a Chinese spy who passed on information about the war in Vietnam.
With more than a nod to Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, in 2020 composer Huang Ruo forged this unconventional love story into a compelling opera that turns gender conventions and cultural power relations upside down. Under the musical direction of Carolyn Kuan, M. Butterfly is now receiving its European premiere, with Robin Adams and Kangmin Justin Kim (acclaimed for his performance as Song in the world premiere) taking on the roles of the two lovers. Director Krystian Lada looks through the eyes of René Gallimard to understand how fantasy can sometimes triumph over reality and how Pinkerton can reveal himself as Butterfly.

The Cadela Força Trilogy Chapter III: A Cordial Light
With A Cordial Light, Carolina Bianchi completes her Cadela Força Trilogy at KVS. This powerful final chapter explores writing, sexuality and identity through literature and performance, in a bold and uncompromising artistic gesture.
In recent years, Carolina Bianchi has repeatedly shaken the theatre world to its very foundations. With the first two parts of her Cadela Força Trilogy, she drew attention to the brutality of sexual violence and its consequences (The Bride and the Goodnight Cinderella) and to the complexity of looking closely the masters of male brotherhood intertwined with theatre history (The Brotherhood). The Brazilian theatre-maker has received numerous awards and widespread acclaim for these first two chapters. She has now reached the final part Cadela Força Trilogy – Chapter III: A Cordial Light. The piece is a disproportional combination of drafts, notebooks, notes, and words from other writers, such as Brazilian author Hilda Hilst and the poet Emily Dickinson, and reveals the violent process of writing as an encounter with the enigma of one's own sexuality. Carolina Bianchi appears as a subject in dissolution, presenting herself through different writer alter egos that enable herself to fulfil her fantasies, especially the fantasy of writing.

Le Grand seXtacle
A cast of eccentric and libertine characters. But what are they up to in this “Cour des Miracles” of eroticism? Singing and dancing to celebrate both the sweet praises and the harsh flaws of a society that is at once eroticized and chaste, waging a battle against conformity and the pressure to conform. They are the aristocrats of their differences. Le Grand SeXtacle surprises, moves, and even shocks the audience. Sometimes unsettling, sometimes painful, often funny, the performers—blurring the lines between circus and cabaret, in full makeup and costume—contrast glamour with an image of society that defies norms. Aware of their otherness, they prompt reflection on identity and appearance.

Parker Ramsey
Parker Ramsey about the program: "As an harpist and instrumentalist, I’m always fascinated to see how composers shape and interact with the texts that inspire them. In the Renaissance, madrigals or motets based on biblical stories were used to teach students to improvise and in tandem instill lessons of morality and virtue. Later in the baroque, Gregorian chants were treated as seeds of germination by the likes of Frescobaldi as from which contrapuntal fantasias were crafted. In the era of programmatic music, poems were treated as narrative frameworks within which composers such as Fauré would fit musical ideas. In the 20th Century, we see instances of silent poetry, such as with Paul Hindemith, who set an obscure poem by Hölty which was meant for the harpist’s eyes, but perhaps nobody else’s. In Words Unspoken, I’ve gone back and chosen some of my favorite harp works I learned as a student and paired them with the solo movements from Nico Muhly’s The Street, a setting of the Stations of the Cross by poet Alice Goodman."

VOID
Discover VOID by Wim Vandekeybus and Ultima Vez, a contemporary dance work about individuality, difference and breaking away from social norms.
In Void, Wim Vandekeybus presents a world where outcast characters – those who live in their own “bubble” or “void” and deviate from societal norms – take center stage. Through minimalist set design, contemporary choreography, and the interplay between sound and silence, Void invites the audience to engage with deeper, thought-provoking questions about individuality and difference.Void highlights how the stage is a space where the usual labels of normal or abnormal dissolve, even overturning societal norms. Vandekeybus reinforces the stage not as a place for realistic portrayals of life, but as a space to explore extreme, and often challenging, individual experiences. “I’m not interested in portraying realistic representations of ordinary social life,” he explains. “Rather, I want to delve into more outspoken individual experiences. It’s about people who don’t follow the expected path; who deviate in fascinating ways.” Despite their differences, the characters coexist harmoniously, offering an optimistic perspective on individuality, where even in moments of conflict, respect and collaboration prevail over aggression."Each character in Void sees the world from their unique perspective, and through this, we explore broader societal themes. It's about delving into the intricate inner worlds of these characters, empathizing with their solitude, and understanding their struggles. Society often conditions us to follow a thin line of normality, labeling anything outside of it as abnormal. However, the unconsciousness, the unpredictable aspects of our work, are vital. This creation celebrates those outcast characters and the rare admission of others into their inner worlds." – Wim VandekeybusThe characters in Void are drawn from personal experiences or family histories, adding a distinctive layer of authenticity. Vandekeybus explains, “One performer channels the story of his grandmother, who lived through similar struggles. Another taps into the memories of her brother, while yet another performer reflects on a childhood shaped by solitude – just her, a television, and a handful of cats for company.” Although inspired by real life, these characters are liberated from the constraints of realism. The creative process allowed the cast to explore their pasts while reimagining these stories within the abstract world of Void.Void is not a reflection of reality, but an invitation for the audience to engage with their own imagination. “People must explore what these characters could be,” Vandekeybus says. He believes that everyone has an element of the “abnormal” within themselves and that these characters embody this universal aspect. “Each older character has been a teenager, and every obsessive person has experienced rebellion. It’s fascinating to uncover these narratives.”The collaboration with young Belgian composer Arthur Brouns adds depth to the piece, with the music setting a unique tone that emphasizes both connection and loneliness. “I provide an initial playlist and general ideas, and Arthur transforms them into something extraordinary,” Vandekeybus explains. In addition to his original compositions, the score will incorporate tracks by Lander Gyselinck and elements of New York Jazz, blending genres into a cohesive soundscape.Lastly, the title Void encapsulates the concept of possibility. Vandekeybus describes it as a space filled with potential rather than emptiness. “When there is emptiness, there are countless possibilities. We often think of empty space as devoid of meaning, but that’s not true. For me, the void is a lack of normality, and within that emptiness lies enormous potential.” This idea is central to the performance, where the space itself is manipulated, raised, and hidden, like a child chasing abstract ideas, leaving the audience to imagine the possibilities within that void.
