Marché Saint-Géry
Marché Saint-Géry brings new life to the historic Halles Saint-Géry, a landmark of Brussels heritage, built in 1881. Fifty years after the closure of the original market, this iconic venue is being returned to its original purpose of providing visitors with a welcoming, lively and inviting marketplace that preserves its cultural role in the heart of Brussels.
Led by non-profit organisation Patrimoine & Culture and Brussels entrepreneur Cédric Gérard, the market brings together a carefully selected group of passionate artisans. Bakers, fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, cheesemakers, delicatessens and caterers invite visitors to discover the local and international flavours that shape the identity of Belgium’s capital.
More than just a place to shop, Marché Saint-Géry offers an authentic experience. Visitors can sample artisanal specialties, meet local producers, enjoy freshly prepared dishes or simply soak up the warm, friendly atmosphere of the neighbourhood.
The Halles Saint-Géry will also continue to host exhibitions, concerts, festivals and cultural events, creating a unique meeting place that blends heritage, gastronomy and contemporary creativity.
For travellers seeking authentic experiences, Marché Saint-Géry is a must-visit destination, offering a discovery of Brussels through its flavours, history and way of life.

Foodmet / Abattoirs Market

The eye-catching building is characterised by its concrete panels in stark lines. It consists of two sections. On the ground floor, you will find a vegetable, fruit and meat market with fifty stalls selling meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruit, olives, red, cheese, herbs, Mediterranean oil, etc. At peak hours, this busy market could easily be mistaken for a Moroccan souk! On the roof, which covers an area of 4,000 square metres, a genuine urban farm has been created: one side features a vegetable garden with greenhouses, and the other an aquaponics farm. This sophisticated system reuses the water in which fish are bred (excrements included) to grow crops. Climb to the roof via the stairs near the entrance for a look at the greenhouses.
