Discover the historic centre with your family

Day 1: discover the historical centre as a family

If this is your first time in Brussels, kick things off at the iconic Grand-Place and have fun with the family spotting the details on its various facades. Can you find the fox or the swan? Then pop over to say hello to Manneken-Pis before heading to the GardeRobe MannekenPis museum. You can even dress up replicas of the famous statue there. It's a fun experience for everyone!

Staying in the city centre, discover two of the jewels of Belgian culinary heritage: dive into the history of chocolate at Choco Story and delicious chips at the Frietmuseum! These interactive museums are a delight for even the youngest visitors.

Did you know that Brussels is widely considered to be the capital of comic strips? The region’s streets are dotted with murals that pay tribute to famous comic book heroes and heroines. The Comic Art Museum is also a wonderful ambassador for the ninth art.

Make your way to the upper part of town via the Mont des Arts. You'll discover a wealth of cultural institutions, including the BELvue Museum and the Musical Instruments Museum, both of which will delight your children. Why not explore the mysterious underground chambers of Charles V's former palace at Coudenberg? Activity booklets are available for younger visitors, making the adventure even more fun!

Take a short detour to place des Palais, home to the Royal Palace, the administrative residence of the King and Queen. Just opposite, Brussels Park offers refreshment kiosks and a large playground.

Feeling peckish? We recommend the Wolf Food Market with its numerous food stalls, Chicago Café and its balanced menu, or the Lloyd Coffee Eatery on rue Jean Stas, which has a dedicated kids’ area.
