For this new edition, Théo from Calligrafferz brings together a live band especially for the night. After a first live set, the stage will gradually open up and turn into a real jam: from 10:30 PM, MCs and musicians can jump in, freestyle, bring their own lyrics and build the music together live.
No pre-selected MCs this time, no prepared cypher. The mic is open and the night will take shape in the moment.
Douma Dynamic will be the host MC, guiding the jam and keeping the energy moving between the band, the MCs and the crowd.

Keeping the Sound Alive: Wagogo Music & Life
The ICTMD Talks are a series of lectures exploring six different musical traditions and the cultures from which they originate. Each of the six annual sessions focuses on a distinct style of music, its repertoire, and the regions associated with it.
The ICTMD Talks are presented by experts from the arts, academia, or passionate enthusiasts of the specific music genre in question. The aim is to bring together a variety of perspectives to discuss music in the world, touching on performance contexts, the conditions under which these musical traditions have thrived, and the historical events that have shaped their evolution.
In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, participants will gather in the lounge of Espace Buen Vivir in Ixelles to engage in discussions with the presenter after each session.
Msafiri Zawose explores the musical traditions and everyday cultural life of the Wagogo people of central Tanzania, and how these traditions have evolved into the present day. Drawing from his experience as a musician, composer and instrument maker, he will discuss traditional instruments, musical practices, transmission between generations, and the ways Wagogo music continues to change and find new contexts in contemporary life. The talk will include a short film showing aspects of Wagogo musical life and practice, followed by a small live demonstration of traditional instruments and musical techniques. This combination of discussion, film and performance offers an insight into both the continuity and transformation of Wagogo music.
Msafiri Zawose is a Tanzanian musician, composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from the Wagogo musical tradition. He works with traditional instruments including the ilimba, zeze, ndono and ngoma, combining musical heritage with contemporary performance and composition. He is also involved in instrument making, cultural documentation and the transmission of traditional musical knowledge to younger generations.

Heisenberg visits Nazi-occupied Copenhagen to meet his former mentor, Bohr, and wife, Margrethe. What passed between them has never been agreed upon. As the three revisit that fateful evening, memories clash, motives are questioned, and certainty proves elusive.

All classes are given by professional musicians and dancers in different locations in Brussels, and learning is often based on oral transmission, as in the case of many world cultures.

Join one of our music ensembles, featuring a variety of instruments and musical complexity, and delve into the genres of Samba and Choro, Tango, Tambora, or Son jarocho. The academy counts 14 ensembles where you will learn a repertoire and discover the joy of playing together.
From September to June, the academy of Muziekpublique offers more than 50 courses traditional music and dance. You can also learn the most common melodies of folk dances in the Folk ball Ensemble or let yourself be transported from East to West by traditional music with the East-West Ensemble. The academy has 14 ensembles where you will learn a repertoire and discover the joy of playing together.

Le Saint Jazz fête ses 40 ans avec le retour exceptionnel de Wonderland
Le vendredi 16 octobre, le Festival Saint Jazz investit le Sounds of Brussels pour une soirée placée sous le signe du funk, de la soul et du groove.
Après avoir fait vibrer les scènes belges il y a une quinzaine d'années, Wonderland se reforme spécialement pour le Saint Jazz. Une occasion unique de retrouver Colin Debruyne (batterie, chant), Cédric Raymond (basse), Matthieu Vandenabeel (claviers, chant) et Jérôme Vandenbril (guitare).
Chacun a un parcours musical riche, nourri par de nombreux projets, mais quand ces quatre-là se retrouvent dans Wonderland, la magie opère. une complicité, une alchimie et un plaisir de jouer ensemble qui donnent à ce groupe son caractère unique.
Ils revisitent les grands classiques de Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire et bien d'autres, avec une énergie communicative et un vrai goût pour les bonnes vibrations.

Ivorian bassist, singer and composer Manou Gallo has built a unique musical language where West African rhythms meet funk, jazz fusion and raw groove.
After arriving in Europe in 1997, she became the bassist of Zap Mama, touring extensively across Europe and the US, before developing her own projects from 2003 onwards. Along the way, she has shared music and stages with figures such as Marcus Miller, Bootsy Collins and Manu Dibango.
A bass player’s bass player, Manou approaches the instrument as rhythm, melody and percussion at once. From the freedom of Jaco to the funk heritage of Bootsy and Marcus Miller, these influences meet her own African roots to create something deeply personal: Afro fusion driven by bass and groove.
At Sounds, expect a stripped-back and powerful dialogue between bass, voice and drums, with African guitar and flute textures moving through funk, fusion and polyrhythmic grooves.

No Need to Export Expo
BeLikha, a Filipino diaspora art collective based in Belgium, is pleased to present No Need to Export, a diaspora exhibition that considers the pressure placed on diaspora communities to make themselves legible, to explain their humour, soften contradictions, package culture, and translate identity for an outside audience. It runs from 18 October to 12 December at Mundo-B Matonge, Brussels.
BeLikha is pleased to present No Need to Export, a Filipino diaspora exhibition bringing together Filipino artists based in Belgium.
The exhibition considers the pressure placed on diaspora communities to make themselves legible, to explain their humour, soften contradictions, package culture, and translate identity for an outside audience.
No Need to Export turns away from that expectation.
Across different practices, the participating artists engage memory, labour, faith, care, humour, desire, class, migration, and contradiction. The works do not attempt to offer a single image of Filipino identity. Instead, they make space for what may remain coded, intimate, excessive, sentimental, devotional, uncomfortable, or difficult to translate.
What happens when Filipino artists do not perform culture as hospitality, nostalgia, decoration, or proof of integration? What becomes possible when meaning is allowed to remain partly untranslated?

New Jazz Underground represents a new generation of American jazz: free, bold and deeply rooted in the tradition.
For their first show at SOUNDS, the New York trio will present music from their own album and original repertoire, alongside a special MF DOOM Jazz Suite, reinterpreting the universe of one of hip hop’s most singular figures through their own jazz language.
Rapper, producer and storyteller, MF DOOM built a unique world from jazz and soul samples, dusty drums, comic book mythology and intricate rhymes. From Operation: Doomsday to MM..FOOD, from KMD to Madvillain, his influence reaches far beyond hip hop.
On the eve of October 31, the date MF DOOM passed away in 2020, the night brings together New Jazz Underground’s own music, live DOOM reinterpretations, beats and DJ sets.

Maqām and Taṭrīb in Egyptian Music.
This talk explores two essential concepts at the heart of Egyptian music: maqām (the melodic modes that shape the emotional character of the music) and taṭrīb (the artistry of ornamentation that creates musical ecstasy). Using examples from the exercises, improvisations, and compositions of the late Egyptian violin master Abdo Dagher, Riad Abdel-Gawad demonstrates how these principles come to life in performance — and why they continue to resonate with musicians and listeners today. The presentation offers an accessible window into a living tradition, bridging the technical and the spiritual, the local and the universal.
Riad Abdel-Gawad is an American-Egyptian violinist and composer based in Brussels. A direct disciple of the late Egyptian master Abdo Dagher, he has documented Dagher’s violin method through manuscript transcriptions spanning over two decades of apprenticeship. He holds a Ph.D. in Musical Composition from Harvard University and has performed internationally as a soloist and with his ensembles, including the Ziryab Jazz Quartet, Riad’s Takht, and the Ziryab Duo. His work bridges traditional Egyptian and Arabic music with contemporary jazz and new music. He has taught at the American University of Beirut and the American University in Cairo, and one of his compositions has been published by Oxford University Press.

This quartet pays tribute to the music and unique sound of Grant Green, one of the most distinctive guitarists of the Blue Note era.
With guitar, bass, drums and keyboards, the band explores the different facets of Green’s music, from blues-driven hard bop to Latin jazz, soul and funk. The repertoire combines some of Green’s own compositions — including *Blues for Willarene*, *Grant’s Tune*, *Jean De Fleur*, *Idle Moments*, *Matador* and *Solid* — with tunes that became part of his unmistakable musical universe.
Rather than aiming to recreate the original recordings note for note, the quartet takes Green’s music as a starting point for a lively, groove-oriented performance, with plenty of room for improvisation and interaction between the musicians.
The programme follows a musical journey through Green’s career, moving from the swinging, blues-based language of his early Blue Note recordings towards the Latin and funky sounds of his later work.
A tribute to a guitarist whose warm tone, deep groove and unmistakably bluesy phrasing continue to inspire generations of musicians.

The first set travels through the different chapters of his extraordinary career, from his years with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and the legendary Miles Davis Quintet to his groundbreaking work with Weather Report and his own compositions as a bandleader.
The second set focuses on Speak No Evil, his essential 1964 Blue Note album. Featuring Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter, Elvin Jones and Shorter himself, the record stands as one of the defining statements of the Blue Note era.
From hard bop to modal jazz, fusion and beyond, one night celebrating the music, compositions and unmistakable sound of Wayne Shorter.

We’re incredibly lucky to welcome a true legend of the French electronic and hip hop scene to SOUNDS.
DJ CAM has been shaping the sound of abstract hip hop since the mid-90s, and on October 1st, he takes over the club for a special TRIP HOP NIGHT.
Hip hop beats, smoky jazz samples and cinematic atmospheres. French producer and DJ CAM has been shaping his own vision of abstract hip hop since the mid-90s, blending jazz, soul and electronic music into deep, hypnotic productions. From underground hip hop to downtempo and trip hop, his music belongs to that era where samplers opened new worlds, alongside artists such as DJ Shadow, Massive Attack and Portishead.
For this special TRIP HOP NIGHT at SOUNDS, DJ CAM takes control of the room for the main set at 22:30. Expect a journey through beats, bass, dusty samples and late-night atmospheres, connecting the roots of the genre with the music that continues to grow from it today.
The night opens with Turtle Records x Threedots on the decks for a vinyl-only warm-up, digging through jazz, hip hop, downtempo and trip hop. After DJ CAM, DJ MATZO SWEETLIFE takes over for the closing set, pushing the night further into beats and electronic territory.

Elle avait commencé à la suite de l’opération « plomb durci », les bombardements de la bande de Gaza en 2008-2009, un crime de guerre si gros, si méticuleusement documenté qu'il aurait dû produire des sanctions internationales et au minimum la décolonisation de la Palestine dans les frontières de 1967, pensions-nous.Pourtant les opérations meurtrières se sont multipliées, avec cette impunité qui érode le sens de tout ce qu’on fait.Tant pis, on continue, pariant qu’il faut dire et redire en quoi la situation des millions de Palestinien.ne.s nous concerne, nous, ici en Europe. Expliciter, rendre lisible notre part de responsabilité dans cette injustice durable.Et puis est arrivé octobre 2023 emportant ce qui nous restait de patience.Comment résumer et embrasser du regard les dernières 250 années en une heure sans s’énerver ? Comment s’armer contre la tentative actuelle de nier un peuple ? C’est ce que tente, avec les outils du théâtre, cette version impatiente de Décris-Ravage intitulé Ravage tout court.

All eyes on Under the Reefs Orchestra, the Brussels-based power trio operating at the crossroads of experimental jazz and post-rock.
With Williwaw, their third album, the trio returns more cinematic and virtuosic than ever. Through Clément Nourry’s radical compositions, Martí Melià’s bass sax and Jakob Warmenbol’s infectious drums, the band unfolds widescreen themes somewhere between Ennio Morricone and Angelo Badalamenti, carried by rhythmic trances that echo both Sons of Kemet and Tortoise.
Their music moves like a fever dream, constantly shifting, unpredictable as a Belgian sky. At times dense and saturated, at times suddenly luminous, each piece unfolds in perpetual transformation, evoking the exploratory spirit of Jim O’Rourke or Jeff Parker, while embracing the raw poetry of Moondog and Ben LaMar Gay.
Drawn from an ocean of compositions and improvisations developed over the past years, and shaped through collaborations with Alejandra Borzyk, Catherine Graindorge and An Pierlé, Williwaw opens a space for unspoken emotions and unexpected encounters.
Originally used to describe violent descending winds in coastal regions such as the Strait of Magellan, the word “williwaw” evokes something elemental, sudden and uncontrollable. Just like this music. Don’t set expectations. Just be ready.

Le tremblement, ça peut pas se dire.Ça n’a rien à voir avec les mots qui ne sont que des bruits.Ce jour-là̀, au lieu de rester comme tous les jours enfermé dans sa chambre aux volets fermés, le jeune homme a eu envie de sortir, de marcher dans la ville, et pourquoi pas prendre le RER pour aller voir un peu de vert, peut-être un bout de forêt ? Ce jour-là, elle est dans le RER, debout, avec son bébé qui hurle dans les bras. Fatiguée. A l’heure où les gens rentrent chez eux après une journée de travail. Catherine Benhamou signe un texte poétique, émouvant et percutant, librement inspiré d'un fait divers. Elle y croise le désarroi d'une mère au bord du précipice avec la déroute d’un jeune homme en décrochage social.5 Secondes dresse le portrait de deux jeunes adultes en déséquilibre. Riton Liebman - enfant star chez Blier, comédien belge reconnu - raconte ses tentatives pour le porter à l’écran. Sur papier, tout le monde applaudit. Dans la réalité, l’enthousiasme retombe vite : les producteurs disparaissent, les acteurs bottent en touche (et le public pourrait bien les reconnaître…). C’est les personnes que tu aimes le plus au monde qui sont le plus à même de te détruire en deux secondes trente. Après trois années sans se voir, Ambre et Joie se retrouvent enfin. Ensemble, elles revisitent des fragments de leur vie commune afin de comprendre ce qu’il s’est passé. Comment la violence s’est-elle immiscée à l’intérieur de leur couple ? Journal d’une relation, généalogie de leur foirage amoureux, cartographie du « comment être ensemble », ce texte, accompagné d’un piano et de deux comédiennes, aborde la question de nos silences et de nos cris à travers une tentative de réconciliation. Après Lune, la Compagnie Kaori revient au Rideau pour le troisième et dernier volet de la trilogie du Cri sur laquelle Pamela Ghislain et Sandrine Desmet travaillent depuis 2017. RIP VOS TYMPANSFranc succès de la saison dernière, la pièce portée par Julie Duroisin (récompensée par le prix Maeterlinck d’interprétation !) et Achille Ridolfi fait son grand retour.Voici les conditions du sinistre : le pianiste Cosme Mac Moon (Achille Ridolfi) retrace le destin aussi strident qu’improbable de Florence Foster Jenkins, riche héritière américaine devenue célèbre en s’improvisant soprano colorature et en malmenant les airs les plus célèbres du répertoire classique. ENTERRER LE DOUTEAprès Bla Bla Bla, Gilles Dal poursuit son travail de démontage de la communication avec les mêmes complices. Lors d’une conférence un peu bancale, un spécialiste tente d’expliquer les mécanismes de la propagande. Face à lui, un organisateur débordé et un participant persuadé d’avoir tout compris. Très vite, le cadre se fissure. Chacun est convaincu d’avoir raison. La propagande, c’est toujours celle des autres. Les moutons ? C’est les autres. Les manipulés ? Les autres. Un long silence. À peine interrompu par les bruits de ventilateur qui sortent du cul de Charles Bienvenu.Douglas Mawson, trente ans, chômeur bruxellois habitué d’un bar de la place Rouppe, étouffe dans une existence sans perspective. Un jour, il apprend l’existence possible d’un village jamais découvert au cœur de l’Antarctique. Sans préparation, porté par un mélange d’espoir et de naïveté, il décide de partir à sa recherche.Il rassemble alors une équipe improbable rencontrée au café : une vieille pianiste arthritique, une femme à la force surhumaine et un philosophe taiseux capable de guérir les âmes. Ensemble, ils quittent Bruxelles pour une expédition aussi palpitante que dangereuse.À travers les codes du roman d’aventure, Le groupe de l’Ouest lointain raconte une odyssée loufoque où le froid, la faim et les crevasses menacent à chaque instant. Mais ils ne sont peut-être pas les seuls à chercher ce village perdu…Entre comédie absurde et récit d’exploration, la pièce interroge le besoin d’aventure d’une génération coincée entre précarité, bureaucratie et perte de repères. LES CAROTTES SONT CUITESAprès avoir fait mouche lors de sa dernière fournée, Fabcaro s’invite à nouveau dans la grande salle (à manger) du TTO avec Formica. Mis en scène par Nathalie Uffner, le spectacle - nommé au Prix Maeterlinck de la Critique dans la catégorie Comédie-Humour - confirme son succès.De quoi parle-t-on, déjà ? De météo ? Trop consensuel. Des enfants ? Trop déprimant. De politique ? Trop touchy ! La conversation patine, les silences s’installent et les regards se crispent.
