As Brussels prepares for the celebrations of the Ommegang procession, a young architect named Joris presents himself to the court to enter the service of the Archdukes Albert and Isabella. But entering the service of the court is far from being a simple task: Joris will have to prove his competence!

Downtown leads to the sumptuous Waucquez and Wolfers brothers stores. Horta was a fertile artist, always seeking innovation and renewal. After the First World War and his trip to America, Horta turned to a more stripped-down, geometric style - Art Décoratif.
Downtown leads us to the sumptuous Waucquez and Wolfers brothers stores. Now respectfully the Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée and a toy store, they are the only remaining store spaces. Horta was a fertile artist, always seeking innovation and renewal. After the First World War and his trip to America, Horta turned to a more stripped-down, geometric style known as Art Décoratif. The most representative example of the architect's period is the façade of the Bozar. And yes, it is a facade by Horta. Even more surprisingly, it was he who designed the well-known Gare-Centrale in our beloved Brussels.

The experience begins with a warm welcome from your guides and a delicious hot chocolate or frozen mucilage depending the weather. While you drink, listen to a short but fascinating introduction into the world of Belgian chocolate and learn an array of chocolate making secrets.
After the intro, the real fun begins with a demonstration of chocolate tempering on a marble table. It’s then time to have a go yourself and make your own chocolate treats with the help of expert chocolatiers. Spend the hour making your very own personalized and tasty mendiants, truffles, lollipops and more. You’ll also taste the ruby chocolate, a newly discovered cocoa bean that is 100% natural but which creates incredibly pink chocolate treats!
At the end of the experience, package up your chocolates and take them home with you to share with friends, or enjoy alone!
Of course you will not become a true chocolate maker in only one hour but I will share with you a little bit of the magic of my job!

This screening will be introduced and followed by a conversation with the director. A free spirited film revolving around Martin Creed's childhood memories. A little boy growing up, seen through the eyes and hair of a young woman. A coming-of-age story told in episodes from conception through the very earliest moments of infanthood to high school, art education and first love. An interwoven story of clothes moves up the body from socks and shoes to trousers and hats. Along the way, various useful guidelines for different aspects of life are presented in the form of chapters on "The Trouser Problem" and "What Are Moustaches For?". Based on a true story, memories were filmed in the places where they happened like the Lenzie Academy in Glasgow and Las Vegas. Martin Creed (born 1968, Wakefield, United Kingdom) is one of the leading figures in contemporary conceptual art. An artist, performer, composer and 'punk poet', he has made a name for himself through an extremely diverse body of work that is by turns radical, entertaining, provocative and poetic.He was awarded the Turner Prize in 2001 for The Lights Going On And Off, Work No. 227. His works are held in prestigious collections around the world.

For Samba Touré, it was Ali Farka Touré, a key figure in transforming traditional Malian music into the globally celebrated desert blues. The Malian musician Samba Touré's electric guitar style remains deeply indebted to that of his older compatriot, and he continues to honour the legend - who died in 2006 - to this day. The circle was completed when he was able to tour with Ali Farka in the late 1990s. Samba Touré is making his debut at Bozar. House of Memory / بيت الذاكرة is an immersive Virtual Reality experience by artist Basil Al-Rawi. Based on photographs and oral testimonies from the Iraq Photo Archive, he transforms archival material into a virtual space where memories can be revisited and explored.
In this 15-minute experience, you encounter personal stories of Iraq in the 1970s, as remembered by those who lived there. Through voices and images, Iraq emerges as a space of cultural richness and everyday life, shaped by memory and displacement of its people. The work offers a rare perspective on Iraqi history and diaspora experience.
Basil Al-Rawi works across photography, moving images, sculpture and digital technologies, exploring memory, identity and archival storytelling. The project was developed as part of his PhD research at the Glasgow School of Art.
House of Memory is part of Ireland’s cultural programme for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

In autumn 2026, Bozar will present a major retrospective of the painter Jean Brusselmans (1884–1953), the first comprehensive exhibition of his work since 1980. From the early 20th century onwards, Brusselmans developed a distinctive body of work, independent of artistic trends yet firmly rooted in painterly tradition. His deep connection to the Brabant landscape and his modest way of life are translated into an authentic and recognisable visual language, situated at the intersection of abstraction and figuration. Through some 120 works, the exhibition introduces visitors to the remarkable oeuvre of a still underappreciated Belgian artist. Dialogues with contemporaries such as Fernand Léger, Piet Mondrian and Rik Wouters offer a fresh perspective on his work.
The exhibition also highlights Brusselmans’ decorative commissions for the theatre, including the monumental sets he designed for the first French-language production of the opera Erwartung by Arnold Schoenberg at the Centre for Fine Arts in 1936. These lost stage designs are brought back to life by the contemporary Belgian painter Kristof Santy (b. 1987), who frequently draws inspiration from Brusselmans in his own work.

William Kentridge - I am not me, the horse is not mine
William Kentridge began his artistic career at the height of the political struggle against the apartheid regime in his native South Africa. His work bears witness to a profound commitment – at once social, political and poetic – that continues to shape his artistic practice to this day.
Kentridge’s artistic output ranges from drawings, animated films and sculptures to prints, installations and videos. These works often emerge while he is directing a theatre or opera production, another field to which he devotes his energies. I am not me, the horse is not mine, William Kentridge’s solo exhibition at Bozar, offers a comprehensive overview of his oeuvre from the early 1980s to the present day. Several of his major stage productions receive special attention. The exhibition highlights the performative and collaborative nature of Kentridge’s practice, in which he allows art to evolve into a space for political inquiry, historical reckoning and poetic transformation.
William Kentridge will take over one of Bozar’s major exhibition spaces, create site-specific works, and curate a rich, multidisciplinary programme. This is by no means the first time we have welcomed Kentridge to Brussels. He has a long-standing connection with the city, where he premiered his first opera (Faustus in Africa! 1995), and where Bozar presented his first solo exhibition in Europe in 1998.

Korean Traditional Painting in Alter-age; Pure and Hybrid
This exhibition brings together historical masterpieces of Korean painting as well as works by four contemporary Korean artists. Opening in Brussels on September 17, the exhibition explores how Hangukhwa (traditional Korean painting) continues to be reinterpreted and transformed today.
Historical masterpieces ranging from the late Joseon period to the 20th century are presented alongside contemporary creations by four Korean artists: Jean Song, Choe Sooryeon, Choi Haeri, and Hwang Kyumin.
KOREAN PAINTING: Tradition Meets the Present
At the heart of the exhibition is muninhwa, or Korean literati painting, a tradition rooted in the spirit of the seonbi ("literati scholar"). Rather than treating tradition as something frozen in the past, the exhibition explores how these established artistic practices are learned, repeated, and reinterpreted within modern temporalities.
The exhibition features masterpieces from the collections of the Ilmin Museum of Art and the Ilmin Cultural Foundation, highlighting nine historical figures—Jeong Seon, Yi Gwangsa, Kang Sehwang, Kim Jeonghui, Jang Seungeop, An Jungsik, Lee Sangbeom, No Soohyeon, and Pak Nosoo—alongside four contemporary artists. Highlights of the exhibition include Calligraphy and Paintings of Kang Sehwang (1789) and Flower and Bird (c. 1860) by Jang Seungeop.
COPY, REINTERPRET, CREATE
A key concept of the exhibition stems from three traditional methodologies of learning and artistic creation: mo (模, to copy), im (臨, to study and imitate), and bang (倣, to adapt).
Contemporary artists Jean Song, Choe Sooryeon, Choi Haeri, and Hwang Kyumin revisit these fundamental principles from a modern perspective. By recombining these classic methods, they place traditional Korean visual practices into a dynamic dialogue with contemporary sensibilities and materials.
Visitors will be able to discover a variety of works, ranging from the ink painting The First Window (2023) by Jean Song and Practice for Decorating a Shrine (2026) by Choe Sooryeon, to the oil painting Water Column with Liliums (2022) by Choi Haeri and Mo-Im-Bang (The Gathering Room): copy, paint, and stroke (2026) by Hwang Kyumin.
PURE AND HYBRID: What Makes a Tradition?
The subtitle Pure and Hybrid raises broader questions about the evolution of "tradition". The term Hangukhwa ("Korean painting") carries a complex modern history, having emerged during the post-liberation period to construct a decolonized artistic identity following Japanese colonial rule. Rather than asserting a single "pure" origin, Hangukhwa has continuously evolved through constant dialogue with contemporary art. The exhibition approaches tradition not as a frozen relic, but as a living and dynamic cultural system, permanently shaped by hybridity and active reinterpretation.
KOREAN PAINTING, REDRAWN IN BRUSSELS
Presented as part of "2026 Touring K-Arts", a public-private initiative aimed at introducing Korean arts to an international audience, the exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), Arts Council Korea, and Hyundai Sungwoo Holdings.

This spring, the Spilliaert Room brings to light a figure who long remained in the shadows: Germaine Rimbout (1894–1973), a Brussels-based artist with a singular trajectory.

Influenced by Cubism and Fauvism, her work evolved after the Second World War toward a freer abstraction and an increasingly daring colour palette.
An exhibition driven as much by the strength of the work as by the personality of the artist. As a female creator in a world still largely dominated by men at the time, she succeeded in forging her own path.
Her artistic journey reflects the tensions and aspirations of an era.

Since 21 May 2025, the Spilliaert Room has immersed visitors in the poetic and mysterious world of the Belgian illustrator and draughtsman. This new space also hosts temporary presentations of works on paper and honours the exceptional contribution of Spilliaert, whose work enters into dialogue with that of other artists from the collections.

Tapta meets Judd
A key figure in contemporary Belgian sculpture, Tapta, born Maria Wierusz Kowalski (1926–1997), is today receiving the renewed recognition she deserves. Originally trained in textile arts, the Belgian artist of Polish origin began to develop her sculptural practice from the 1980s onwards, using neoprene, a synthetic rubber.
The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium preserve two works that mark this artistic trajectory. One of them, Néoflexibles 2, has not been shown to the public for many years and will be exceptionally presented on this occasion.
As part of the Collection Meets programme, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium create dialogues between their collections and those of other collectors – in this instance, several original works by Tapta come from the collection of Maurice Verbaet and from another private collection.This edition brings together Tapta and Donald Judd (1928–1994), two artists of the same generation who, on opposite sides of the Atlantic, each contributed to rethinking the relationship to space while working with industrial materials.
This encounter forms part of a broader project aimed at bringing renewed visibility to the Royal Museums’ remarkable collection of modern and contemporary art.

I am not me, the horse is not mine
William Kentridge began his artistic career at the height of the political struggle against the apartheid regime in his native South Africa. His work bears witness to a profound commitment - at once social, political and poetic - that continues to shape his artistic practice to this day.Kentridge's artistic output ranges from drawings, animated films and sculptures to prints, installations and videos. These works often emerge while he is directing a theatre or opera production, another field to which he devotes his energies. I am not me, the horse is not mine, William Kentridge's solo exhibition at Bozar, offers a comprehensive overview of his oeuvre from the early 1980s to the present day. Several of his major stage productions receive special attention. The exhibition highlights the performative and collaborative nature of Kentridge's practice, in which he allows art to evolve into a space for political inquiry, historical reckoning and poetic transformation.William Kentridge takes over one of Bozar's major exhibition spaces, creates site-specific works, and curates a rich multidisciplinary programme. This is by no means the first time we have welcomed Kentridge to Brussels. He has a long-standing connection with the city, where he premiered his first opera (Faustus in Africa!, 1995), and where he held his first solo exhibition in Europe at Bozar in 1998.

This edition explores themes of confinement, routine, and the desire for escape through a poetic and absurd VR narrative. The Great Escape by Joren Vandenbroucke places you inside a quiet living room as the third of three geraniums sitting on a windowsill. While the plants long to see the world but remain rooted in place, Patrick-the apartment owner-moves freely through his daily rituals yet never leaves his home, trapped in repetition and isolation. The work reflects boredom, freedom, and the strange boundaries between movement and stasis. VR Film Screening is designed to be welcoming and accessible. Attentive guides will be on hand to ensure you have a seamless experience.

This is not a standard concert, but a total experience in which music and image merge to fully immerse the audience. Sound becomes space; time becomes tangible. And at the heart of this multisensory performance lies an essential question: what challenges does nuclear waste pose today, tomorrow and beyond?For this project, acclaimed young Belgian filmmaker Dimitri Sterkens creates a new film in which image and music do not illustrate one another, but intensify each other. In collaboration with NIRAS/ONDRAF (the National Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials), this unique project addresses issues of temporality, vulnerability and legacy for future generations.From the pulsing drive of Jessie Montgomery's Starburst to the hushed tension of Philip Glass' String Quartet, each composition opens a new dimension of listening. Penderecki's searing Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima cuts to the core, while Max Richter's November expose an almost unbearable vulnerability. Between motion and stillness, between threat and contemplation, a sonic landscape unfolds - one that resonates with our time, our world, and the one we will leave to the next generations.Thanks to the players of the National Lottery and to the Tax Shelter of the Federal Government of Belgium through Gallop Tax Shelter.

On the occasion of the annual Museum Night Fever, Bozar invites GIMIC Radio, the Marolles-based platform dedicated to electronic music, while the two major exhibitions currently on view keep their doors open until 1am.Founded in 2024, GIMIC Radio is an independent radio bar that has quickly established itself on the Brussels scene as one of the most dynamic players in the Belgian music scene. This radio and meeting space brings together a community of avant-garde artists and curates a programme that is both hybrid and discursive. Silent Friend - Ildikó Enyedi
In a German botanical garden of a university, a majestic ginkgo tree stands as a silent witness to three lives across a century. From a neuroscientist in 2020 studying infant minds who begins an experiment with the ancient tree., all the way back to the first female student of the university in 1908 who discovers through photographs the cosmic patterns in plants. We follow their attempts to connect, as they are transformed by the mysterious power of nature.
Ildikó Enyedi (1955, Budapest) studied economics and attended the theatre and film academy in Budapest. In 1989, she made her first feature, My 20th Century (Az én XX századom), which won the Camera d'Or for best debut at the Cannes film festival. Her most well-known film, On Body and Soul (2017), won the top prize at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.

Joachim Dallayrac, an opera singer, suddenly announces his retirement in order to pass on his musical legacy to Sophie (Anne Roussel), whom he senses is the opera singer of the future. He also takes a talented young man (Philippe Volter) under his wing with a view to bringing together these two voices to replace his own.
Gérard Corbiau trained at the IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion) before joining RTBF in 1968. Initially a producer for the channel's flagship programmes, he later moved to the Music-Opera-Ballet department. It was through this channel that he met one of the greatest opera singers, the Belgian bass-baritone José van Dam. After dedicating a portrait to him in 1982, a deep friendship developed between the two men and gave rise to the project for his first feature film: Le Maître de musique, which caused an immediate sensation upon its theatrical release. Never before had a Belgian feature film received such acclaim from both audiences and critics. The film was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 61st Academy Awards.
Throughout his film career, Gérard Corbiau has tirelessly explored the nature of artistic expression. He films artists, musicians and singers, whether in his fiction films (Le Roi Danse in 2000 and Farinelli, another huge Belgian and international success, winner of the 1995 Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and nominated for an Oscar) or his documentaries.

The sixteen strings of the four instruments in the GoYa Quartet became perfectly attuned to each other in Amsterdam's prestigious Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. The first violinist Sylvia Huang, a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, has since moved on from her position in Amsterdam to become the leader of the orchestra at La Monnaie. Fortunately, the musicians still celebrate their shared pleasure in music as a quartet. They will open the evening with two colourful and elegant works by Imogen Holst (the daughter of Gustav) and Maurice Ravel. The refined world of sound in these works, without a single superfluous note, stands in sharp contrast to the dramatic emotions of Leoš Janácek's String Quartet no. 2, known as Intimate Letters. This impressive quartet expresses Janácek's unrequited feelings for his young muse Kamila Stösslová.

His father was an engraver, his daughter makes films. Together, they have covered countless miles. This is the story of the roads they have taken. It is a story of closeness and transmission. Of a body of work being discovered, of a grandfather caught up in the course of history. It is the story of a shared and universal territory.
Marie-Eve de Grave is a Belgian filmmaker who has been living in France since 1993. After studying art history at ULB, interior architecture at Saint-Luc, and scenography at La Cambre, she graduated from INSAS in cinematography. She first worked as a director of photography before writing the screenplays for her own films. In recent years, she has been writing and directing artist portraits. In 2025, she directed the documentary Louise Bourgeois, la sculpture et la colère, dedicated to Louise Bourgeois. Belle de Nuit - Grisélidis Réal, autoportraits (2020) earned her numerous awards. Alongside her filmmaking practice, she also writes for young audiences.

On the set of a turbulent shoot of a Medea adaptation in Senegal, Maja seeks solace in a love affair with her co-star Nourou. Months later, they meet again at the film's premiere in Berlin. Old feelings resurface, but a racist incident unsettles their reunion. Tensions rise as everyone tries to do the right thing. While the ancient tragedy plays out on screen, a contemporary drama unfolds. Ulrich Köhler's new film is a multi-layered reflection on art, morals and colonialism.
Ulrich Köhler (born December 15, 1969) is a prominent German film director and screenwriter closely associated with the acclaimed Berlin School of filmmaking. Born in Marburg, Germany, Köhler spent his early childhood in Zaire. This experience with cultural displacement, along with his later studies in art in France and visual communication at the Hamburg College of Fine Arts, profoundly shaped his directorial perspective.

The Other Side of the Sun - Tawfik Sabouni

A few years ago, the filmmaker Tawfik Sabouni was released from Saidnaya, the prison infamously known as "The Other Side of the Sun". In December 2024, in the wake of the fall of the Assad regime and the liberation of Syria's prisons, he returns to this place of detention to confront and reclaim the memory of his captivity.
This documentary film does not seek to reopen old wounds, but to restore what systematic violence sought to erase: the voices, the stories and their humanity. Building on trust and collaboration, Sabouni invites four other survivors of Saidnaya to join him. Together, they return to the physical spaces of their imprisonment and engage in a meticulously constructed re-enactment of daily rituals, gestures and moments of survival.
Filmed inside the former prison, the re-enactment becomes a means of expressing what language alone cannot convey. With restraint, The Other Side of the Sun confronts the viewer with the indelible marks of imprisonment, creating a deeply unsettling and emotionally devastating experience. By giving a presence to those who have disappeared, the film bears witness on behalf of the families who are still searching for answers and contributes to Syria's efforts to come to terms with the legacy of its prisons.
Tawfik Sabouni is a Belgian-Syrian filmmaker and screenwriter born in Damascus in 1989. Passionate about theatre and later cinema from his teenage years, he initially studied law, as there were no film schools in Syria. In 2011, during the Syrian revolution, he picked up a camera to document what the state wanted to erase. He was arrested and imprisoned in Saydnaya before fleeing the country. Arriving in Belgium in 2015, he enrolled at INSAS in Brussels, graduating with a degree in film directing in 2022. His short films Au bord de la folie (2021) and L'Apatride (2022) have been screened at international festivals.

A sensual coming-of-age story in which a sixteen-year-old wallflower is confronted for the first time with her sexual desires. Sultry choir-mate Ana-Marija unsettles Lucia, as does the handyman working at the crumbling convent where she lives. And then there is her faith, which only heightens the turmoil in her body. Little Trouble Girls explores, with tenderness and a fresh perspective, the intersection of burgeoning sexuality and religious constraint.
Urška Djukic is a Slovenian director, screenwriter and film editor. She studied at the School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica. Urška Djukic's most recent short film "Granny's Sexual Life" has won over 50 awards, including the European Film Academy Award for Best Short Film in 2022 and the 2023 Cesar Award for Best Animated Short Film. Previous short films by Djukic also include "The Right One", part of the omnibus film SEE Factory Sarajevo mon amour that premiered at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight in 2019. In the same year, Djukic participated in the 39thedition of the Cannes Cinéfondation Residency, where she developed "Little Trouble Girls", later awarded as the best work-in-progress project at the Les Arcs Film Festival in December 2023. "Little Trouble Girls" is her debut film that premiered at the section Perspectives of the Berlinale in 2025.

Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust. DRESSING + mata !
With DRESSING and mata! presented as a double bill at Bozar, Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust's work resonates at Bozar with the exhibition Edith Dekyndt X Cristóbal Balanciaga.
DRESSING DRESSING is a performance that starts from the act of dressing. Getting dressed is a paradoxical daily gesture: depending on the individual, it aims as much to assimilate into a social group as to distinguish oneself from it. The costume is a support which allows both to merge, even to camouflage oneself in the mass, and to stand out: two ways of presenting oneself to others, which are based on an issue of collective belonging. DRESSING features bodies that use clothing and accessories in order to appear differently, to distinguish themselves from others and from the decor. Clothing becomes a ritual of transformation, allowing the creation of a new identity. The costume is considered as a choreographic score, in its capacity to offer a renewed way of moving, of expressing oneself, of performing. Silhouettes are constructed and deconstructed, revealing before our eyes creatures in constant metamorphosis, to the point of monstrousness.

mata! What form would a bullfight take, removed from the reality of killing, defeating gender stereotypes and the codes of ritual violence? In the center of the arena, bathed in the musical atmosphere of Paul Lajus, Grégoire Schaller and Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust deliver a critical rereading of this sacrificial parade by exacerbating the elegance of its pageantry. Through the reappropriation of gestures, light clothing and grimaces, the ultimate expressions of an encounter with death, the duo organizes a face-to-face which focuses on the bodily metamorphoses of the matador's face. Reinterpreting her in the guise of the drag king, both relax as they seduce each other, engaged in a circular choreography which plays on a disorder instilled in the genre. The result of research carried out in the field, in bullfighting schools, breeding sites and at a tailor between the South of France and Madrid, mata! makes shifts at the heart of this aesthetic-political node to think about bullfighting beyond the show.

Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust is a Franco-Iranian-German-Polish artist. He develops a cross-disciplinary practice combining visual arts, textiles, performance and choreography. His works-patchworks, kilts, felts, costumes-question notions of exile, memory and identity through a living, shifting textile material, a vector of transformation. The costume becomes a site of metamorphosis, where bodies are distorted to invent new narratives. Inspired by Persian arts, family archives or archaeological objects, he reassembles a fragmented memory and creates imagined landscapes populated by hybrid entities.

Brussels Jazz Orchestra: The Music of Bert Joris
The Next Chapter. Live recording
Trumpeter, composer and bandleader Bert Joris is turning seventy, and we're celebrating with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Joris and the BJO go way back: they have worked together for three decades, resulting in albums such as Dangerous Liaison (2006), Signs and Signatures (2010) and Smooth Shake (2017). Their most successful collaboration is undoubtedly The Music of Bert Joris (2001), an album admired from New York to Japan. For many, it set the standard for big band music. To mark his seventieth birthday in 2027, Joris reunites with the orchestra, once again combining his talent for soft, distinctive timbres and lyrical playing with the unique BJO sound. At Bozar, they will record the music for an album scheduled for release in spring '27 and will also present new work.

This film... is it or is it not about Clorindo Testa? And if it isn't, then what is it about? Is it about the director's life, about his father's life, about his country's life? Or could it be just one of those biopics that proliferate in film festivals, in which the narrator keeps telling old family stories and pulling old pictures from within a box. It is between these threats -and some even worse- that this tiny, microscopic adventure navigates, a film that could be subtitled, stealing from the Savoyard Xavier de Maistre, as "Voyage autour de mon père".
Mariano Llinás (1975, Buenos Aires) is a filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, actor and co-founder of production house El Pampero Cine. He was educated at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, where he currently teaches. Balnearios (2002) was his debut featurefilm and he has directed and written many films since then, like Historias Extraordinarias (2008) and the La Flor trilogy (2016-18). He lives and works in the neighborhood of San Telmo in Buenos Aires.

In the presence of the film director
The quarantine hastens the moving in together of Constanza and Agustín's, an actress and a filmmaker. Away from their jobs and their routines, they decide to shoot a short fiction film inspired on the problems she has to adjust to living in his house. Once that short film is completed, the problems in real life continue: malfunctions in the building force them to admit workers in their house, they are left with no electricity and no running water, they receive the news they have to refurbish another apartment to rent out and, and finally, they are forced to move to her place. Each one of these problems becomes the beginning of a new fiction film: a new comedy with Clementina in the lead role.
The Q&A with Agustín Mendilaharzu following the screening will be moderated by César Díaz, the acclaimed film director of, amongst other films, Nuestras Madres (2019).
Agustín Mendilaharzu (1975, Buenos Aires) is a playwright, cinematographer, theatre director and filmmaker. He is also one of the four members of production company El Pampero Cine (alongside Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky and Laura Citarella), responsible for innovative filmmaking practices and celebrated films in Argentina. In 2019, he was nominated for best cinematography by the Argentine Film Critics Association for La Flor (2018) in the Silver Condor Awards. Clementina (2022), which he also co-wrote and starred in, is the first feature film he has directed.

Thanks to winning a radio contest, a young woman spends four days alone at a seaside hotel in Ostende, in the Buenos Aires province, while waiting for her boyfriend to arrive. With little to do beyond enjoying the windy beach and observing the sparse surroundings, she becomes fascinated by an elderly man and his two young companions. As she drifts away from her everyday world, curiosity draws her into a mysterious microcosm filled with untold stories. When her boyfriend finally arrives, he disrupts this fragile atmosphere. In her debut film, Laura Citarella blends Hitchcockian intrigue and Rohmer-like subtlety with a feminine, lighthearted touch.
Laura Citarella (1981, La Plata) graduated as a film director from the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Since 2005, she has been part of El Pampero Cine. With her third feature, La mujer de los perros (2015), co-directed with Verónica Llinás (sister of Mariano Llinás), she gained worldwide recognition at film festivals. Her fourth and most recent feature film Trenque Lauquen (2022) was an international success. Besides directing Citarella is also one of the biggest independent movie producers in Argentina. Her production work includes, among others, Mariano Llinás's Extraordinary Stories and La Flor, and Alejo Moguillansky's For the Money.

Two monuments of Romantic music meet in an evening of pure intensity and emotion. In his Second Piano Concerto, Brahms conceived the piano and orchestra as equal protagonists in a compelling narrative. The work is often described as a symphony with soloist, and for good reason. Expanding the traditional concerto form to four movements, Brahms reveals an exceptionally broad expressive palette. From robust power to the most delicate lyricism - most famously in the cello solo of the third movement - the music unfolds with both emotional depth and formidable demands. Pianist Masaya Kamei (5th prize in the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2025) rises to the challenge with precision and clarity, shaping the work's sweeping tensions with authority and insight. The evening continues with Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, a work in which the composer lays bare his inner struggles and Romantic soul. The recurring fate motif colours the symphony from start to finish, yet the music never remains uniformly dark. Melancholy, hope, passion and theatrical flair alternate seamlessly. Under the direction of Mikko Franck, the symphony becomes a dramatic journey, culminating in a finale that overwhelms and refuses to let go.Meet Masaya Kamei at Bozar! Under pressure from industrialization, the rise of psychoanalysis and growing social tensions, familiar world views are losing their footing and the refined styles of the fin de siècle their lustre. In music, literature and the visual arts, the boundaries of expression are being radically pushed back. Composers such as Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern and Alexander von Zemlinsky each sought, in their own way, a new sound idiom, rooted in late Romanticism but unmistakably turned towards the future. During this concert, Alain Altinoglu will showcase three of their masterpieces, all written at this turning point in European cultural history.
Desire, anticipation, fulfilment, liberation, departure – Alexander von Zemlinsky’s masterful and all too rarely performed Lyric Symphony takes you through all the stages of tragic love. Based on the poetry of Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore, this key work of twentieth-century music ultimately paved the way for spiritual acceptance: ‘Wir werden einander in die Augen schauen / Und jeder seines Weges ziehn’ (We will look each other in the eye / And each go our own way).
In Verklärte Nacht, Arnold Schoenberg stages a poignant meeting in a moonlit forest. Full of despair, a young woman confesses to her lover that she is expecting another man’s child. He forgives her and promises to raise the child as his own. Through subtle motivic development and rich orchestration, Schoenberg closely follows all of the characters’ inner emotional conflicts, up until the final transfiguration.
‘To surrender completely to the listening experience. To experience sounds through the senses’: that is what Anton Webern demands of his listeners. This concert opens with his Opus 1, the Passacaglia, which he composed at the end of his studies. Intended to demonstrate his mastery of counterpoint, the work also heralds the bold artistic paths he would later take.

Christiana Katsarou has been animating Greek dance, language and culture workshops for 25 years in Greece and abroad in public institutions and private associations and projects.
She is a candidate doctor in the Athens Kapodistrian University in the field of Folk Studies and Culture, researching the interrelation of
Greek dance and cultural tourism.
For her master thesis in Folklore studies she researched the Ikarian feasts through narratives of the Ikarian people.
In Ikaria she is the coordinator of Ikaria Dance Project since 2004 (www.ikariadance.com).

Between segregation and cosmic revelation, The Magic City traces the birth of musician Sun Ra. On May 22, 1914, Herman Poole Blount arrived on Earth in Birmingham, Alabama - an industrial and segregated city in the rural South of the United States, nicknamed The Magic City. At the age of 32, he moved to Chicago. There, he became Sun Ra, one of the most prolific jazz musicians of the twentieth century, as well as the founder of a singular cosmic philosophy.
The Magic City is both a portrait of the artist as a young man and a portrait of a city through time.

Philippe Béziat is a French film director and screenwriter born in 1963, best known for his documentary films focused on classical music, opera, and the performing arts. So far he directed 4 opera-documentaries, the most recent Gallant Indies from 2021. He has directed several short musical films, and regularly films operas, ballets, concerts, and theater productions at institutions such as the Comédie-Française, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and the Paris Philharmonic.

You don't let a 20th birthday slip by unnoticed.
Ireland, land of rolling hills, green meadows, flocks of sheep, and... animation! Irish animation studios are among the leading ones in Europe. Filem'On is putting them in the spotlight this year, including during the Ciné-concert (or as the Irish say in their native Gaelic language: Ceolchoirm Scannáin). We swap the violins and tin whistles for an enchanting electro-acoustic soundscape, performed live by musicians, who provide a series of animated films with a new, fitting soundtrack.
The film score will be performed live by Sam Comerford, Marco Giongrandi and the pupils of Vila'Ket

From Mozart To Minimalism- Maureen van IJzerloo: Piano
Maureen van IJzerloo began piano lessons at the age of five and soon impressed with her musicality and sense of expression. At eleven, she performed during the Piano Three-Day Festival in the Main Hall of De Doelen, an experience
that marked the beginning of her musical journey.
Since 2021, Maureen has regularly attended masterclasses with Wibi Soerjadi and participated in his Summer Course at Villa Peckedam, where she performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12 together with him. In October 2025, she graduated from Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, where she studied under Nino Gvetadze.
Together with Marianne Hansen, she forms a piano duo that has performed since they were twelve years old. Their performances are marked by a refined and sensitive touch, combined with strength, expressivity, and remarkable attention to detail. The duo has appeared in prominent venues, including the Jurriaanse Hall of De Doelen, and at classical music festivals such as the Festival d'Anniviers in Switzerland. In 2025–2026, Maureen and Marianne are touring Europe with their Fantasy Tour, performing in England, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Scotland.
In addition to her duo work, Maureen also performs as a solo pianist, with a repertoire ranging from Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin to contemporary piano music and her own compositions. In May 2026, she was invited as a guest artist at the Gelderlandfabriek, where she performed her own composition and also played four-hand repertoire with pianist Wibi Soerjadi, which was a significant artistic highlight. Through her expressive playing, she seeks to reach a wide audience and share the power of music, inviting listeners to experience a deeply personal and moving musical journey.
The program From Mozart to Minimalism reflects this journey through time: from classical masterpieces to contemporary music and original compositions, guiding the audience through different musical worlds in a storytelling concert experience.

As part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, the Association Femmes d'Europe, with the support of the Embassy of Ireland in Belgium, invites you to a charitable Gala Concert in the magnificent Henry Le Bœuf Hall. Internationally renowned Irish tenor Emmet Cahill and Marc Redmond on the Uillean Pipes, will perform together with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brussels Philharmonic Chorus, under the direction of David Navarro-Turres. The programme will highlight Irish cultural heritage, exile, resilience and hope through Irish musical traditions, opera and musical theatre. The concert will be enriched by the performance of a contemporary work by Belgian-Iraqi composer Qoutayba Neaimi.

Meet the Writer: Deborah Levy
South African writer Deborah Levy spent a year in Paris writing a biography of Gertrude Stein. The result is a compelling and profound novel about female identity, authorship and modernity. In My Year in Paris with Gertrude Stein, we follow a narrator and two companions as they attempt to come to terms with modern life in the metropolis. Deborah Levy is a leading voice in contemporary English-language literature. With works such as Hot Milk and the Living Autobiographies series, she is praised for her infectious and warm style, through which she transforms everyday scenes into profound insights. Her latest novel, My Year in Paris with Gertrude Stein, confirms Levy's reputation as a writer who, with a sharp eye, elevates the personal to new heights. During this evening at Bozar, Levy will be in conversation with Melissa Giardina about writing that straddles the line between biography and fiction.

Meet the Artist: Gerard Byrne
In the context of the Irish Presidency, Bozar welcomes Gerard Byrne, one of Ireland's most prominent and prolific contemporary artists. Curator Padraic E. Moore will discuss his work with him, and a selection of his latest film and video works will be screened. Gerard Byrne is an artist working in Ireland, and a teacher to young artists in Staedelschule, Frankfurt. His work recovers futures past, gleaning historical legacies from the Chrysler Imperial, Playboy Magazine interviews, Minimalist Art through photographs, Proto-Cinema and Natural History, and most recently the art historical significance of the Mamiya 7 rangefinder camera. He recently co-curated (with Judith Wilkinson) the first comprehensive exhibition of seven teleplays made by Samuel Beckett in Stuttgart Germany (WKV Stuttgart). He works primarily through photographs, film & video, and occasional publishing.

Rzewski. The People United Will Never Be Defeated!
American composer Frederic Rzewski lived in Brussels from 1977 onwards and was one of the leading performers and advocates of John Cage's work. He also composed several iconic works of his own, most notably The People United Will Never Be Defeated! This monumental cycle of piano variations can rightly take its place alongside Bach's Goldberg Variations and Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. Inspired by Sergio Ortega Alvarado's Chilean protest anthem ¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido! (from which the piece takes its title), Rzewski composed thirty-six intricate and fiendishly difficult variations that blend Chilean folk melodies with complex European counterpoint. Daan Vandewalle, one of Rzewski's leading interpreters and close friends, performs the complete cycle, which he will also release as an album. This concert forms part of the Echoes of Brussels series, that throughout the season highlights some of the most memorable creations and figures associated with the capital.The concert is preceded by an introduction with Klaas Coulembier that takes place at 7.45pm in Hall M. This encounter will be in French and in Dutch.

In the presence of the film directors on 28 October and 6 November
Vietnam War veteran Al Moon lives alone on his tribe's land in Northern California. As violence and environmental destruction bear down on the reservation, old anxieties resurface, pushing Al to hit the road to confront what haunts him and reconnect with the men from his battalion. Each encounter along the way reveals a divided country grappling with its own wounds-a troubling reflection of his inner turmoil. « The past clings, especially when you try to run from it », Al reflects. He chooses to face it head-on, hoping to finally glimpse other possibilities.
The film won the Grand Prix at the last edition of Festival En Ville.
Isabelle Ingold is a freelance editor and director. She graduated at the Femis in the editing department. As an editor, she has worked with Amos Gitai, Vincent Dieutre, Bojena Horackova, Hélène Mariani, Itvan Kebadian and many others. She is a professeor at the Femis and the University of Corsica. New Beginnings is her sixth collaboration with Vivianne Perelmuter. Their previous film, Ailleurs Partout, was honored with the Scam's Star Award.
Vivianne Perelmuter is a Belgian-Brazilian filmmaker based in Brussels and Paris. After studying philosophy, she entered the Fémis in the directing department. Her medium-lenght and short-films have been widely screened at international festivals and won awards. Her work ranges across both documentary and fiction but also takes in photography and installations. She is a member of the artistic team of SIC in Brussels. In 2023, she was a "guest artist professor" at Le Fresnoy - National Studio of Contemporary Arts.
This event marks the official opening of Le Mois du Doc 2026.

Dao is a perpetual circular movement that frames reality. A family weaves the threads of a heritage that travels between worlds, intertwining joy and pain, memory and transmission. A wedding in France and a commemorative ceremony in Guinea-Bissau unfold as two celebrations organically connected through bodies and time, leading towards rebirth.
Alain Gomis (b. 1972) is a French-Senegalese screenwriter and film director. His debut feature, L'Afrance (2001), which portrays the struggles of a Senegalese student in France, won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. After Andalucia (2007), he collaborated with Saul Williams on Tey (Aujourd'hui), which earned him the Golden Stallion at FESPACO. In 2017, he directed Félicité, awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale and selected as Senegal's submission for the Academy Awards. With Rewind & Play (2022), he paid tribute to the legendary jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk. Dao is his sixth feature film. Gomis is also deeply committed to the development of film production and post-production in West Africa. In 2018, he founded the Yennenga Centre in Dakar, a hub dedicated to supporting African cinema.

The concert series Echoes of Brussels hops back and forth along the capital's timeline, highlighting memorable creations and residents. The ensemble Les Muffatti, for example, takes us back to the eighteenth century. Pieter van Maldere's association Le Concert Bourgeois, inspired by the Parisian Concert Spirituel, played an important role in spreading music in Brussels, then the capital of the Austrian Netherlands. During its heyday, the association witnessed a veritable musical evolution, from the late Baroque of Henri-Jacques de Croes to Joseph Haydn's classicism, by way of the pre-classical composers Pieter van Maldere and Ignaz Vitzthumb and the tempestuous Sturm und Drang of Johann Stamitz. The concert is preceded by an introduction with Klaas Coulembier that takes place at 19.45pm in Hall M. This encounter will be in French and in Dutch.

Vijay Iyer: Solo
Anyone perusing Vijay Iyer's CV should set aside some time to read it in full: producer, writer, bandleader, professor, composer and pianist. His numerous collaborations with the likes of Arooj Aftab, Craig Taborn and Steve Coleman are all the confirmation you need: Vijay Iyer is a musician's musician. DownBeat has already voted him Jazz Artist of the Year four times, in part thanks to his ECM albums in various line-ups. The American artist rarely crosses the Atlantic, but will make a special visit to Bozar this autumn, performing a solo piano concert in Hall M. Building on the legacy of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Alice Coltrane and Geri Allen, Iyer has developed his own musical language, one that straddles tradition and the avant-garde. As Rolling Stone noted: "Iyer's music knows no bounds."

Does the epithet Missa in angustiis (Mass for Troubled Times) refer to the stressful composition process for Joseph Haydn or tensions on the world stage in 1798? Both this added layer of meaning and the musical energy of the piece are still relevant today. Cost-cutting at the Esterházy court meant that the woodwind section had to be replaced by an organ, leading to an unusual instrumentation in Haydn's masses. The Requiem in D Minor by W.A. Mozart also took on a life of its own after the composer's death: the unfinished mass was completed by his former student Franz Xaver Süszmayr, with a skill matched only by the sense of mystery in the piece. Belgium's pride, Vox Luminis, and the acclaimed ensemble Camerata Salzburg link up these two shining examples of late 18th century church music. Coproduction: Perpodium. Johanna Schubert (violin), Merle Geißler (cello) and Philipp Kirchner (piano) were barely thirteen when they formed the Amelio Trio. The musical friendship between the three German musicians has since taken them to international stages, and their second album is due for release in autumn 2026. A glance at the programme has already whetted our appetite for the recording. From Haydn's forty-five trios, Amelio chose the Piano Trio in F major from 1784-85, composed with meticulous attention to intimate musical enjoyment. Composer and violinist Helena Winkelman has written a new work, especially for the Amelio Trio as part of their inclusion in the ECHO Rising Stars programme. Robert Schumann's Piano Trio No. 3 brings the morning to a close with expressive dialogues between piano, violin and cello. The Amelio Trio has been named a 'Rising Star' for the 2026-27 season by the Kölner Philharmonie, the Barbican Centre, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Philharmonie du Luxembourg as part of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) network. As well as their performance at Bozar, they will be giving an intimate, acoustic concert for the residents of the Klein Kasteeltje, the reception centre for asylum seekers. After the private concert, there will be time for the artist and the residents to meet, talk and share experiences. In collaboration with Fedasil and Orfeo. With the support of the Van Well van der Snoek Foundation.
