As we make our way to the first brewery, we’ll pass by your guide’s favorite beer shop to find out how familiar you are with the Belgian and local beer portfolio.
Our first stop will be at our hidden gem inspired with medieval atmosphere. Here, sample your first beer and exchange thoughts on the flavor and notes and soak up the convivial spirit as you chat to your group. If you don’t know the difference between an ale and a lager, listen carefully cause your guide is about to share the secrets of the brewing process. At every venue, we’ll surprise you by combining our beers with some local food to make sure you enjoy the full Belgian beer-and-food experience. So now it’s time to enjoy that delicious Brussels’ chocolate your guide has put on the table for you.
It’s time to move on to another lively beer spot. The knowledge of Liselot is more than only about beers: as a proud citizen, she’ll share fascinating novels about Brussels Belfry, Manneken Pis and the historical Pelgrim church. Your sightseeing will be completed with a walking encyclopedia.
At our second location, we’ll discover more different styles and further explore the world-famous Belgian brew portfolio. By tasting the very ingredients that make up the brewing process, you’ll feel like you’re visiting a brewery and you’ll get a sense of what makes a beer sour, sweet or bitter. Now, have you ever tried unique Belgian types like Trappists and our local Brussels brews? Make sure your taste buds are ready cause you are about to be introduced to the widest range of Belgian beers you have ever seen in just one bar. This visit will be completed with another surprising local food pairing.
For our second promenade, Liselot demonstrates how Brussels got this fertiled environment to make Lambic beers. Only a few metres further, you’ll hear more history of the old city wall and a recognised statue.
Last but not least, at your 3rd location you’ ll be introduced to the upscaling local craft beer market and will get the chance to try an exclusive beer you can only find in this town. Have you found your new favourite beer? Explore variants of it and make the most of these last moments together!
After 3 hours, your tour will come to a close in the nicest area of town where you will be free to spend time with your new friends or to continue this unique beer experience.

Samim is 23 and a Taliban fighter. With a machine gun under his arm, he directs traffic. As he grows bored and calls his wife, a fragmented life under radical doctrine comes into view: a cult of martyrdom, strict morality and closed horizons. He talks with his 14-year-old brother, in exchanges where brotherly closeness and careful indoctrination intertwine. This film meets the people we hear so much about but rarely get to know.

Impossible to categorise, Sleaford Mods has been blowing apart the conventions of post-punk for more than fifteen years with an explosive mix of spoken word, minimalist electronic beats and raw anger. Driven by Jason Williamson’s incisive lyrics and Andrew Fearn’s productions, the British duo transforms everyday frustrations, social divides and political disillusionment into a burst of energy that is as biting as it is exhilarating. With The Demise of Planet X, Sleaford Mods continues its fierce exploration of a world in crisis, where black humour meets a cathartic rage. On stage, the duo delivers a raw, intense and cathartic performance that is both political and confrontational.

Broken Home, My Shrine
Broken Home, My Shrine is a multidisciplinary performance by Alix Konadu at KVS and Moussem exploring migration, identity and belonging. Through live music and storytelling, it reflects on memory, connection and resistance to dehumanisation.
“It always happens in my chest. A very specific spot. The spot where my pain of non-belonging belongs.”We move, in search of feelings of belonging, feelings of home. All while physical homes are blown apart, washed away, occupied, stolen or forgotten. We move, not to explain, not to fix, but to carry it. To carry the wonder and chaos, the contradictions, the desires, dreams and memories, of this never-ending journey. And to hold its complexity. We move. Because movement is who we are. With Broken Home, My Shrine, Alix Konadu (whom you may know from her work in Hannibal and Burning City) creates a multidisciplinary performance about migration and identity. Two intertwined perspectives are at its core: those who move, and those who grow up in the echo of that movement. The migrant, and the migrant’s child. For seven years, the maker collected testimonies from people who left a home behind and started again elsewhere, or whose family did so. These interviews form the guiding thread of the performance. Their stories merge with the personal histories of the performers themselves.Drawing inspiration from personal stories and traditions of shrines and objects that carry memory and belonging, the performers create a shared journey through live music and storytelling. Starting from the fact that migration is part of the human experience, love and connection allow past and future to meet, holding on to humanity where it is so easily lost.

1576–1578 – Brussels: between dialogue and confrontation
450 years ago, Brussels was at the centre of the storm during the revolt against Philip II. For 18 months (09/1576 – 02/1578), the Town Hall served as the political centre of the Netherlands. The States General governed the country from there, and attempts were made to find a solution to the conflicts fuelled by political or religious extremists, with the emphasis on dialogue and reconciliation.
Four hundred and fifty years ago, the city of Brussels found itself at the eye of the storm during the revolt against King Philip II of Spain. For eighteen months, between September 1576 and February 1578, Brussels Town Hall served as the political centre of the Netherlands. From then on, the States-General governed the country, and attempts multiplied to find a solution to the conflicts exacerbated by extremists of all kinds – whether political or religious – by prioritising dialogue and reconciliation.
In this richly illustrated book, historians Roel Jacobs and Jean-Jacques De Gheyndt bring to life a crucial, yet often overlooked, period in history. They highlight the roles of key figures such as William of Orange, his adviser Marnix de Saint-Aldegonde and the young Archduke Matthias, whilst also shedding light on the influence exerted on events by a highly mobilised Brussels bourgeoisie.
The Pacification of Ghent of 1578 is a pivotal moment in this history, as it marked the first major attempt at reconciliation in the struggle against Philip II. The treaty, signed at Ghent Town Hall but ratified at Brussels Town Hall, united the Habsburg Netherlands against the Spanish forces and paved the way for a temporary freedom of conscience. This marked the beginning of Brussels’ role as a centre of political reconciliation.
‘1576–1578’ offers much more than a simple historical reconstruction of the past. This book examines how the struggle for freedom of thought and self-determination in the 16th century laid the foundations for contemporary democracy, and how these principles were re-examined in the 19th century, notably by mayors such as Charles Buls. Does Brussels Town Hall still remain a ‘place of remembrance’ for the politics of reconciliation in Europe today? An essential read for anyone wishing to better understand the complex roots of Brussels and the former Netherlands.

Mababu - Spirit of the Ancestors
Through staged photographs, historical references, clothing, and symbolic gestures, photographer Pamela Tulizo invites you to approach the history of slavery in a different way—not just through maps, dates, and statistics, but also through the voices, memories, and stories of the women who resisted it. She brings African women out of obscurity—women full of strength and courage.
Vrije Universiteit Brussel and De Markten invite teachers, school classes, and the general public to Pamela Tulizo’s exhibition MABABU. Pamela Tulizo is a Congolese photographer based in Goma. In her exhibition MABABU, she explores the power of representation: who is depicted, in what way, and what can images mean to those who rarely see themselves reflected with dignity?
New role models
Instead of victims, we see women taking action—with presence, beauty, pride, and strength. By presenting them as powerful and inspiring role models, the exhibition invites you to reflect on gender equality, humanistic values, and the courage to stand up against injustice.
MABABU is both a tribute and an invitation—to question history, acknowledge forgotten stories, and envision new role models.
The exhibition features photographic work, specially designed dresses, and a behind-the-scenes film about the artistic process in Goma.
MABABU – Spirit of the Ancestors is a VUB Cultural Diplomacy project developed with the support and collaboration of ULB, BrIAS, VLIR, Enough Room for Space, DeMens.Nu, De Markten, VISU VUB Research Group, Stad Brussel, Humanistisch Verbond, Enable, Kuumba VZW.

Icons, 20 years Designer of the Year
In 2006, the first “Designer of the Year” award was presented in Belgium. The prize was originally established by the Interieur Biennale and the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend, and was awarded that year to Brussels-based designer Alain Berteau. Over the years, various partners joined the initiative, and it grew into a well-established reference in the Belgian design landscape.
Twenty years later, the list of laureates reads as a best-of-the-best of what the country has to offer in contemporary design: from ceramic designers and silversmiths to product and lighting designers. Concepts such as innovation, originality, and ecology are often central to their work. The list includes names such as Muller Van Severen, Alain Gilles, Nedda El-Asmar, Julien Renault, and Linde Freya Tangelder. On the occasion of the 20th edition of the title, all twenty names come together in an exhibition at MAD Brussels, on view from 1 October to 12 December.

The exhibition focuses on Pogge in his many forms, with a wide range of objects, drawings, photos, archival documents, and of course his ceremonial figure. The title “Alles es Just!” refers both to Pogge’s 19th-century heroic deeds and to the way the festival of the same name explored Schaarbeek’s intangible heritage over 10 years.
In collaboration with Sputnik vzw, AMVB brings Pogge’s world to life through numerous side activities. By the end of the festive year, you will truly know everything about Pogge.

Masonic Satire
Masonic Satire
A temporary exhibition in which the art of caricature engages in dialogue with the major themes explored in our permanent collection.
Through ten remarkable caricatures drawn from the satirical newspaper Le Frondeur (1868–1869), discover a biting visual world populated by voluptuous monks, hypocritical clergymen and indolent politicians.
Produced within the vibrant context of the nineteenth century by the liberal and anti-clerical bourgeois circles associated with the Leuven lodge La Constance, these fascinating images challenge the power of the Church and the political tensions of their time with wit and audacity.
This exhibition invites visitors to decode a rich and surprising iconography while drawing compelling connections with the objects and ideas presented throughout the museum’s permanent displays.
Combining satire, history and a critical perspective on society, it offers an original experience that sheds light on the past with striking modern relevance. A unique opportunity to discover rare, humorous and provocative works that are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Postmenopausal women speak out. An intimate chorus on a subject that has yet to be fully explored by the theatre.
Alone on stage, French-Syrian actress and singer Hala Omran tells her story while preparing a plant-based recipe that is supposed to help her overcome ‘the age of despair’. What does the menopause do to women’s bodies and lives? The first production by Syrian-Palestinian scenographer Bissane Al-Charif opens up a space for discussion, part laboratory and part women’s circle. In this piece, which combines singing and personal stories, women from Arab countries – friends and strangers from either side of the Mediterranean – share their confidences. Hormonal symptoms, a failing memory and mood swings are sometimes compounded by a loss of bearings triggered by political upheavals or wars. At once subtle and committed, the show highlights with great humour the disruptions caused by a stage of life that all women go through.

One ticket, two concerts, two journeys, and the same unwavering commitment to the struggles for dignity and equality.

Fire Island Polaroids
Made during Robert Andy Coombs’ 2022 BOFFO residency in Fire Island Pines, these Polaroids document friends, lovers, chance encounters, and the island’s landscape. Affection, desire, leisure, and caregiving unfold together in a personal account of his time there. The series engages with Fire Island’s history as a refuge for gay men, while drawing attention to the barriers that shape access to its spaces. In dialogue with Tom Bianchi’s Polaroids, Coombs contributes his own perspective as a wheelchair user to the island’s photographic legacy. His photographs explore how care and intimacy make room for connection and belonging. Robert Andy Coombs is a photographer whose work explores disability, sexuality, relationships, and care. Raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, he received his BFA in photography from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2013 and graduated from Yale School of Art in 2020. He was a BOFFO resident on Fire Island in 2022.

Come Closer: Disability, Intimacy, Care and Desire
Come Closer: Disability, Intimacy, Care and Desire explores how we can rethink intimacy through the lens of disability justice. How can we understand bodily autonomy, communicate desires and boundaries, and recognise access needs as an essential part of intimacy? How can we build more accessible and affirming spaces that challenge ableist assumptions and the desexualisation of disabled people? The workshop also invites participants to question the idea that interdependence is a weakness, instead exploring care, support, and mutual reliance as meaningful parts of intimate relationships.Through discussion, performance, creative activities, and shared resources, participants explore the connections between disability, intimacy, care, and desire, with a focus on communication, consent, access needs, kink, and aftercare.Participatory and playful activities invite participants to reflect on how we can create more inclusive, accessible, and pleasurable experiences of intimacy, challenging dominant narratives around bodies, sexuality, relationships, and care.Antonella Candiago is a disability rights advocate working at the intersection of disability, gender, sexuality, and social justice. Drawing on lived experience and professional expertise, she promotes disability justice and sex-positive, intersectional approaches to bodies, desire, intimacy, relationships, and care. Her work focuses on disabled sexuality and intimacy, SRHR, sexuality education, and creating spaces where disabled people can claim autonomy, pleasure, connection, and self-determination.See read more for more information on the structure of this event and the accessibility information. Quasimodo aux miroirs
Taking as his starting point a fictional character who became famous through the Disney animated film – the famous hunchback of Notre-Dame – artist No Anger deconstructs the imagery surrounding this iconic figure by using his own body. How can one appropriate an image whilst simultaneously undermining the norms that this image conveys? How do you expose the imagination and social logic inherent in this image, whilst also redefining the way we view the disabled body? From the experience in front of the mirror to the stage, dance becomes a means of freeing oneself from constraints. To utilise the body’s potential. To give expression to the dizzying aspects of identification. In a performance that takes the form of a reclamation, No Anger sets out to reinvent itself and broaden our perception: that of a body in all its states, one that subverts norms and affirms the plasticity of being – beyond alienating images and dominant narratives.Through an artistic practice that brings together video art, performance and literary writing, No Anger challenges the ways in which bodies are expressed and displayed. Words and images, which form part of a shared language and imaginative world and are imbued with power relations, convey a worldview that legitimises certain realities over others, thereby creating a hierarchy amongst bodies.

Faith in the Unknown
"I've always dreamed of making an album where I could bring together artists I deeply admire, curating voices, energies, and sensibilities that have inspired me,” says Brussels-born producer and multidisciplinary artist Shungu of his acclaimed 2025 record, Faith in the Unknown.
Together with flatspot __• he has created an eponymous film extending its universe into visual form. Tonight he presents that collective and cosmic voyage with a live scoring, accompanied on stage by Ruqqiyah and Wonky Logic.
Expanding that dialogue between what we know and what we don't, Shungu invited worldwide wanderer NEXCYIA and faraway local Chima Isaaro to complete the lineup.
These artists know from experience that in the spaces where trust, risk, and vulnerability intersect, something entirely new can emerge. Something that invites us to stop and smell the stars together.

NEXCYIA
NEXCYIA is the solo project of Adam Dove, a Paris-born, Berlin based American sound artist and sound designer. His work might be described as outsider ambient, blending underground experimental music with sound design, textural soundscapes, and sound mangling techniques. Moving through shifting samples, moods and emotional registers, he explores themes of otherness and belonging. Through dense layering and continuous audio manipulation, he creates ever-evolving pieces that draw listeners into a sonic journey, eschewing the over-visited constraints of a tempo grid.
NEXCYIA has performed and exhibited work at major venues, contemporary art spaces, and festivals across the US, UK and Europe, including the Barbican Centre, ICA, Café OTO and much more. He has established a strong presence in the ambient music scene, with features in Fact Magazine, The Wire, and Crack Magazine, with appearances on Resident Advisor, NTS and BBC Radio. Label releases can be found on Good Morning Tapes, Haunter Records, Hivern Discs, 29Speedway, Paralaxe Editions, Takuroku and more, with a collection of self-releases on Bandcamp and Nina.
NEXCYIA will be making his Belgian debut on this ECHO TREE evening.

Chima Isaaro
It's clear that Lisbon-based DJ Chima Isaaro (FKA Chimahiro) has been doing the work. Lighting up the basements of Brussels, the dance halls of Milan, and renowned spaces like Panorama Bar or Doka Amsterdam, the seasoned digger and selector is rightly becoming recognized for her uplifting, surprising, and always generous sets. Well-known for effortlessly melodic sonic journeys that weave through the time-spaces of techno, house, disco, soul, batida, jazz, and more, every reminder of dance music’s Black origins is a call for the people to let loose and have fun. Her mix series Nyce & Slo has long been a favorite for lovers and yearners, while her more jacked-up dance mixes for Boiler Room and NTS or at Sonar and Waking Life, have won her devotees internationally. Chima Isaaro sustains that expansive energy with a universal invitation: you can come if you can dance.

Shungu
Maybe Brussels’ most enigmatic music prophet Shungu is forever in transformation. Under the name Senga, he is an accomplished producer and beatmaker who has worked with the likes of Dreamcastmoe, Quelle Chris en Fly Anakin, and knows how to elevate dance floors into sacred spaces through tantalizing MPC-driven live sessions of Detroit-infused house.
Under his own name, Shungu has quietly carved out a unique place in the subterranean music scene, blending jazz-infused sampling with cosmic grooves, bridging the worlds of hip-hop, jazz, psych-rock, and house with the intellectual curiosity and playful creativity of a tireless sound architect. In 2025 Shungu released his highly anticipated album, Faith in the Unknown, on the legendary Lex Records, with a surefire roster of collaborators including Pink Siifu, Liv.e, and Fatima,to name but a few.
His latest alias dj Echotree and the eponymous label/platform are dedicated to the more introspective, legacy-oriented and interdisciplinary side of his artistic practice. Considering the impressive series of mixtapes, albums, radio shows and live gigs to his name, the only constant for this next chapter might be that you’ll be using your mind, your memory and most of all your heart to experience it to the fullest.

Christine Turner — Sun Ra: Do the Impossible
Sun Ra: Do the Impossible
Christine Turner, 2025, United States, 84min, in ENG, subs ENG
Welcome on this journey through the life and work of the visionary jazz musician Sun Ra, and the musical, historical, and philosophical currents that shaped him. Director Christine Turner illuminating film gracefully balances recollections from the Arkestra’s still-devout band members and dancers with insightful interviews from music scholars, and unforgettable film and performance footage of Sun Ra himself. The result is a portrait – informative, inspiring, and mind-bending – of a man whose audacious vision, otherworldly imagination, and uncompromising artistry helped shape not only the sound of jazz, but the cultural landscape of the 20th century and beyond.

“The prevalence of documentaries about musicians is a curse, because most of these films do a terrible job of showcasing music. One rare and moving exception is the work of the director Robert Mugge, whose film Sun Ra: A Joyful Noise – about the musician and bandleader whose multimedia and pan-cultural activities made him one of the prime artists of Afrofuturism – is one of the most satisfying musical portraits I’ve ever seen.”
— Richard Brody about Sun Ra: A Joyful Noise

Based in Muncie, Indiana, Robert Mugge teaches film production at Ball State University, where he is an Endowed Chair in Telecommunications. Although he is best known for his music films – including films about Al Green, avant-garde composer George Crumb, and the zydeco scene in southwestern Louisiana – his filmography is varied, tackling subjects like Philadelphia mayor Frank Rizzo and, in 2020, ABC News correspondent Steve Bell. "The first edition of ECHO TREE explored the legacy of the L.A. Rebellion, a movement of Black filmmakers who developed new cinematic languages outside of dominant modes of representation. Through films, conversation and live performances by Astrønne and damsel Elysium, the evening opened a space to consider cinema and sound not simply as forms of entertainment, but as ways of thinking, remembering and imagining other possibilities.
For its second BSB edition, ECHO TREE turns toward the vast and singular universe of Sun Ra.
Composer, bandleader, poet, philosopher, mystic and one of the most radical figures of twentieth-century music, Sun Ra remains difficult to contain within a single definition. His life and work existed somewhere between music, mythology, spirituality, science fiction, Black history, discipline and collective experimentation. Rather than separating art from life, Sun Ra seemed to approach them as parts of the same continuous practice.
At the centre of the programme are recent perspectives on Sun Ra, including Christine Turner’s new documentary Sun Ra: Do the Impossible. This film allows us to approach the complexity of a figure whose ideas could be beautiful, challenging, humorous, demanding and deeply radical, and whose vision continues to resist easy categorisation.
Throughout the evening, A Joyful Noise will also be projected on loop in the small cinema room, creating a parallel space that visitors can enter, leave and return to: an ongoing window into Sun Ra’s music, words, performances and universe.
Beyond his extraordinary musical language, the evening looks at what Sun Ra’s trajectory can tell us about why and for whom we create.
In 1957, Sun Ra co-founded Saturn Records with Alton Abraham, becoming one of the earliest Black musicians to establish and control his own record label. Through Saturn, he was able to release an enormous body of work according to his own rhythm and principles, often outside the expectations of the conventional music industry.
This independence was not simply a business decision. It reflected something deeper in his relationship to creation.
Sun Ra did not appear to make music primarily to answer an existing demand, fit within a market, or satisfy the expectations of an industry. Creation could instead become a spiritual practice, a form of research and a means of transformation. He spoke of music as something capable of accessing the unknown and moving human beings toward another state of consciousness. He was even known to compose music privately as an offering of gratitude to the Creator, music that was never intended to be performed or released.
This raises a question that feels increasingly relevant today: What happens when we create not because something has been asked of us, but because we believe something needs to exist for humanity?
Between the screenings, a conversation will explore Sun Ra’s philosophy, the complexity of the person behind the mythology, and his radical approach to art and life. We will consider artistic independence, spirituality, discipline, collective living and creation, imagination as a form of liberation, and the possibility of making work not simply for an audience or an industry, but in relation to something larger — to community, to humanity, to the unknown.
The evening will then move from reflection into live sound. NEXCYIA will perform, followed by Shungu presenting Faith in the Unknown, accompanied on stage by Ruqqiyah and Wonky Logic. The performance extends the dialogue at the heart of ECHO TREE: allowing archives and contemporary practices to coexist, and asking how the ideas left by artists before us can be absorbed, questioned and transformed rather than simply celebrated. The night will close with a DJ set, shifting the space once more, from cinema to conversation, from performance to collective listening and movement.
Across its first two editions, ECHO TREE is slowly building an archive of encounters between film, sound, history, philosophy and radical imagination. From the filmmakers of the L.A. Rebellion to Sun Ra, we are interested in artists who did more than produce work within the conditions given to them. Artists who created their own structures, languages and realities when the existing ones were insufficient." — Nola & Shungu

Theatre creator Lieselot Siddiki creates a sensory performance about the end of a world order – and what comes after. Featuring Lucie Plasschaert, Lucas van der Vegt & Oscar Claus. See the show at KVS Brussels.
It must be born. Like a spirit emerging from the cunt. What happens when a civilisation can no longer digest its own history? In SCHWEINEREI, two figures lock themselves away in a bunker. They are twins. They are lovers. They are puppets, performers, spirits of the theatre. Fallen angels. They are repulsive and seductive at the same time. The last descendants of a Europe that has reproduced itself for centuries until it became sick. Behind them lie Versailles, Marie-Antoinette, Mozart, the aristocracy, the theatre. Everything that was beautiful. They have turned it into a paradise. But paradise is rotten. They party while the world outside perishes. They play, eat, make music. Their bodies become entwined. Their embrace turns into a knot. They love each other so much that they suffocate one another. Then their bodies begin to speak out. What was swallowed up (culture, beauty, violence, guilt, desire) comes pouring out. They break through an inner wall. Inside becomes outside. Their artificial bodies begin to leak incessantly.SCHWEINEREI is a love letter to the theatre and a reckoning with its ghosts. A state of being. An exorcism.THE WHOLE GLOBE FOR A REAL SORROW.* Theatre is dead. Long live theatre.Together with Lucie Plasschaert and Lucas van der Vegt, who plays Mozart on the fortepiano, Lieselot Siddiki builds a bunker that is a palace, a doll’s house, a body and a ruin. A place where past and present can no longer be distinguished from one another.BORED. FRIVOLOUS. EXCESSIVE. SICK. SO SO SICK.*from Hamletmachine by Heiner Müller Schweinerei in the press"This magnificent feast has both the aesthetic grandeur of La grande bellezza and the unpleasant side effect of gluttony: aerophagia, swallowing too much air, making everything feel like an inflated balloon. Plenty to think about."- De Standaard"Somewhere halfway through the performance, Lieselot Siddiki says that she suffers from 'nightmare disorder': everything she dreams about is dirty, violent, and she hopes that one day she will be able to experience dreamless sleep. Perhaps that is why, with Schweinerei, she stages the ultimate nightmare, only to then drift into that blissful sleep."- PZAZZLieselot Siddiki on Pompidou on Klara.__Photos: © Yaqine Hamzaoui

Go back tot the Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert R. Johnson. His music has influenced everyone from Muddy Waters to Eric Clapton and R.J. Remko.
Remko Van Damme, a.k.a. Black Label does not try to imitate the originals. Instead he plays the songs his own way, with breathtaking slide licks and mind blowing harmonica riffs.

Tarab Machine
Tarab Machine's debut EP is bold and immersive sonic journey that announces the path ahead... (And deserves a banger of a release party!)
Tarab Machine combines trance-like grooves inspired by jazz-fusion and prog-rock with the lyricism and breath-controlled language of Maqam music. After one year of playing at a lot of Brussels showcase events, they have become a true tastemakig sound of the city. They are a real treat for those who love to make traditions move. And dont't forget the Beurscafé is made for dancing, too
