Do you prefer sustainable shopping? In Brussels, environmentally responsible shops and concept stores are in high demand. Far from the major chains, here are our top picks for 100% ethical and ecological shopping in Brussels.

Schaerbeek

Sample Slow Jewelry

With its collections of beautiful, timeless jewellery, Sample Slow Jewelry is inspiring others throughout the capital. Textured gold, pearl pendants, vermeil bracelets with simple lines... we love their unique designs, made in their Brussels workshop and boutique. The ethical approach means 100% recycled metals, high-quality jewellery with a lifetime guarantee and the best of local craftsmanship!

Marolles

Machao

You'll find Machao in the heart of the Marolles. It's a boutique and workshop dedicated to refurbishing old furniture and textile creations. Their values? To give the old a new life, in a colourful, responsible and modern way. The magical hands of Myriam Zahri craft each item, giving it a unique quality and identity.

Versus

Everything Daphné Marceau touches turns to gold. Before turning her hand to eco-responsible floriculture, she explored her creativity in many forms, not least theatre and set design. In 2021, she transformed a former hat shop in Les Marolles into a showcase for local and seasonal flowers, sometimes reinvented and upcycled into dried pieces. Today, Versus has established itself as a benchmark for sustainable flowers in Brussels. Come in and soak up the almost dreamlike atmosphere, and leave with unique arrangements that are both poetic and respectful of the planet.

Cyclup

Cyclup is much more than just a second-hand shop! From fashion and homeware to haberdashery and children’s wear, this dynamic initiative brings together six shops in its shop in the Marolles. A veritable circular village, it doesn’t just sell second-hand items, furniture and clothes, it also features a section dedicated to upcycling. Meet the in-house seamstresses and tailors, who ply their trade in workshops in the very heart of the shop! The concept goes even further with the customisation bar: simply choose buttons, ribbons, beads and sequins from the haberdashery section and sit down with the garment you want to pimp (you can even book a sewing machine in advance). With much the same philosophy, a team of trainee joiners transforms our old furniture into ultra-stylish, one-of-a-kind pieces! In short, it’s the sort of project we love, one that combines the social and solidarity economy, vocational integration and local reuse!

Les Savons de Lyna

Specialising in handmade soap and organic cosmetics, Les Savons de Lyna (Lyna's soaps) offers a wide selection of products from cosmetics to cleaning products, with many ranges available to buy in bulk. You'll find cold-saponified soaps, solid shampoos, body care products, liquid soaps and a range of zero-waste products designed to meet every need and taste.

 Saint-Gilles

Circular and sustainable products are front and centre at Yuman! It offers a comprehensive selection of products made from recycled materials, primarily local eco-designed objects and zero-waste options. We love their candles scented with dried flowers and soya wax, their extensive range of organic cosmetics and oils, their ultra-stylish upcycled vases made from wine bottles and their great selection of clothing for all age groups. Here's a circular economy that won't have you going around in circles!

Ixelles

Retro Reset

Who said wearing old curtains couldn't be stylish? That's how the vivacious Laura, self-taught seamstress and founder of Retro Reset, describes her approach. By her hand, 70s-style tablecloths, your grandmother's blankets and other beautifully vintage textiles are transformed into ruffled dresses, quilted jackets and little shirts. Resolutely pop, she upcycles textiles and produces little gems in striking colours and bold patterns. All of this with genuine values of reducing waste, emphasising local production on a human scale and not overproducing in mind.

psyché

Aura and Camille are the founders of this boutique, which is both a living space and a meeting place. The two friends met when their former shops - Aura's LOKAL (a sustainable and ethical fashion concept store) and Camille's BIOCAM (an organic cosmetics boutique) - were next door to each other. Driven by the same passion for ecology, they naturally came up with the idea of a joint project. The result? A green boutique dedicated to fashion and cosmetics, showcasing the creations of Belgian brands that respect the environment. With a careful selection, psyché combines sustainability with style and quality.

Step inside this beautiful, bright shop in the heart of the Saint-Géry district and you'll almost certainly spot Inga Lichtenfeld sitting at her sewing machine. The Hamburg-born designer, who trained in fashion design, pattern-making and couture in Paris, is also a mother, and has created a world of her own in which beauty, dreams, quality and respect coexist happily. In addition to her experimental approach to colour and her unique flair for prints, she takes great care in her choice of materials. Her pieces are handmade from organic cotton, with comfortable cuts that allow kids to move freely.
