If beings from the farthest reaches of the solar system were to land on our planet, how would they go about making contact with us? Cie Mossoux-Bonté takes us on a fictional journey in which five visitors attempt to become human.

How would beings arriving from within the solar system and landing on our planet go about entering into contact with us ? “How would they feel, faced with our irresistible urges? Our inconsistencies, our obsessions ? Would they want to be like us ?”, wonders Patrick Bonté who, in accordance with the company’s principle of rotation, has created this new work.A group of extra-terrestrials visiting Earth tries to adopt humanity’s codes in order to examine our behaviour. Dreams, fantasy and restraint come into play, while the resemblance is finessed, and this strange familiarity veers off into anguish. An echo chamber for the chaos of our era, and for its ills, these Variations sur les passions humaines pull apart our ruined relationships, and displace our disintegrated dynamics, presenting an opening to embolden “impertinent and unrestricted speech”.

Broken Home, My Shrine
Broken Home, My Shrine is a multidisciplinary performance by Alix Konadu at KVS and Moussem exploring migration, identity and belonging. Through live music and storytelling, it reflects on memory, connection and resistance to dehumanisation.
“It always happens in my chest. A very specific spot. The spot where my pain of non-belonging belongs.”We move, in search of feelings of belonging, feelings of home. All while physical homes are blown apart, washed away, occupied, stolen or forgotten. We move, not to explain, not to fix, but to carry it. To carry the wonder and chaos, the contradictions, the desires, dreams and memories, of this never-ending journey. And to hold its complexity. We move. Because movement is who we are. With Broken Home, My Shrine, Alix Konadu (whom you may know from her work in Hannibal and Burning City) creates a multidisciplinary performance about migration and identity. Two intertwined perspectives are at its core: those who move, and those who grow up in the echo of that movement. The migrant, and the migrant’s child. For seven years, the maker collected testimonies from people who left a home behind and started again elsewhere, or whose family did so. These interviews form the guiding thread of the performance. Their stories merge with the personal histories of the performers themselves.Drawing inspiration from personal stories and traditions of shrines and objects that carry memory and belonging, the performers create a shared journey through live music and storytelling. Starting from the fact that migration is part of the human experience, love and connection allow past and future to meet, holding on to humanity where it is so easily lost.

Alice au Pays des Colons
Alice Kisiya is 30 years old. She is originally from Bethlehem and, unusually, holds Israeli citizenship. Yet that has not stopped the settlers from seizing her land, where her family home and her parents’ restaurant once stood. Every day, Alice returns to the site to challenge this dispossession, standing alone against the Israeli army that protects the settlers. Far from shielding her, her dual identity makes her struggle all the more symbolic: she embodies a form of civil resistance—determined and head-on—waged at the very heart of a colonial system.

A Good Man is Hard To Find
Dissecting the Mythology of Power
The performance takes its cue from the so-called ‘Cremationof Care’, a fantastical and decadent ritual allegedly organised by the private club Bohemian Grove in San Francisco. A ceremony in which the global political and economic elite are supposedly invited to rid themselves of their feelings of guilt. In a battered meeting room, the five actor-dancers dissect the mythology of power and lay bare the absurdity, illusions, initiation rituals and destruction that seem to define all these men — emotionally blocked somewhere between gods and teenagers. So imagine an office party at the end of the world, suspended somewhere between a Greek tragedy and a contemporary apocalypse, pop music and an epic symphony, at the intersection of dance and theatre, where beauty meets horror.
A Good Man is Hard to Find was the sensation of the 2025 Venice Dance Biennale. Hailing from London’s underground scene, Bullyache create hybrid works inspired by their working-class backgrounds and queer identity. A Belgian premiere.

Expo Welcome in Digitopia
The Brussels Platform against poverty and 8 associations worked for 2 years on digital exclusion
The world we live in is becoming increasingly digital. While digitisation offers opportunities, it also creates a series of new inequalities that are often disproportionately felt by people already living in poverty. Access to many services (culture, transport, housing, assistance...), support, and rights is shifting more and more from physical counters to digital gateways. For people with limited or no access to a computer or internet, and little to no basic digital knowledge and skills, this raises new barriers. It not only makes full participation in society more difficult, but also undermines people's independence and, consequently, their self-confidence.

House of Memory / بيت الذاكرة by Basil Al-Rawi
House of Memory / بيت الذاكرة is an immersive Virtual Reality experience by artist Basil Al-Rawi. Based on photographs and oral testimonies from the Iraq Photo Archive, he transforms archival material into a virtual space where memories can be revisited and explored.
In this 15-minute experience, you encounter personal stories of Iraq in the 1970s, as remembered by those who lived there. Through voices and images, Iraq emerges as a space of cultural richness and everyday life, shaped by memory and displacement of its people. The work offers a rare perspective on Iraqi history and diaspora experience.
Basil Al-Rawi works across photography, moving images, sculpture and digital technologies, exploring memory, identity and archival storytelling. The project was developed as part of his PhD research at the Glasgow School of Art.
House of Memory is part of Ireland’s cultural programme for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

NAZA
NAZA by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the makers of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, is a revealing film about the systems behind the large-scale civilian casualties in Gaza. On the rooftops of Tel Aviv, far from the war zone, Israeli soldiers hold secret conversations at night. Step by step, it becomes visible how the army and intelligence services determine who is a target, which technologies and procedures are deployed, and how many civilian casualties an attack is allowed to cost. Dozens to sometimes hundreds of Palestinian civilians can be considered an acceptable price for eliminating a single target. The film thus poses the painful question: how can the killing of innocent civilians become so normalized within a military apparatus that it is no longer viewed as a moral or legal problem? The title refers to Nezek Agavi, ‘collateral damage’, the Israeli military term for the expected number of civilian casualties from an airstrike. The term thus symbolizes the dehumanization deeply ingrained in the system: civilian deaths are not a tragic side effect, but a foreseen and accepted part of military operations. NAZA premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where the film won the Special Jury Prize.

Jean Brusselmans - Painter by nature
In autumn 2026, Bozar will present a major retrospective of the painter Jean Brusselmans (1884–1953), the first comprehensive exhibition of his work since 1980. From the early 20th century onwards, Brusselmans developed a distinctive body of work, independent of artistic trends yet firmly rooted in painterly tradition. His deep connection to the Brabant landscape and his modest way of life are translated into an authentic and recognisable visual language, situated at the intersection of abstraction and figuration. Through some 120 works, the exhibition introduces visitors to the remarkable oeuvre of a still underappreciated Belgian artist. Dialogues with contemporaries such as Fernand Léger, Piet Mondrian and Rik Wouters offer a fresh perspective on his work.
The exhibition also highlights Brusselmans’ decorative commissions for the theatre, including the monumental sets he designed for the first French-language production of the opera Erwartung by Arnold Schoenberg at the Centre for Fine Arts in 1936. These lost stage designs are brought back to life by the contemporary Belgian painter Kristof Santy (b. 1987), who frequently draws inspiration from Brusselmans in his own work.

ARTONOV Festival
12th Edition “We do not work alone.”
These words by the renowned Japanese ceramic artist Kanjiro Kawai, a key figure in the Mingei movement, serve as the guiding principle of the twelfth edition of the ARTONOV Festival. They express a fundamental conviction: creation never arises in isolation. It emerges from a living network of transmission, memories, shared gestures, and unseen presences. Every artistic act is shaped by what came before us—by people, materials, places, and traditions that continue to resonate in the present.
In 2026, Belgium and Japan celebrate the 160th anniversary of their cultural and diplomatic relations. On this occasion, ARTONOV invites artists from both countries to explore new dialogues between heritage and contemporary creation. This edition examines how ancient forms, rituals, and collective memories can still generate transformative experiences today.

William Kentridge - I am not me, the horse is not mine
William Kentridge began his artistic career at the height of the political struggle against the apartheid regime in his native South Africa. His work bears witness to a profound commitment – at once social, political and poetic – that continues to shape his artistic practice to this day.
Kentridge’s artistic output ranges from drawings, animated films and sculptures to prints, installations and videos. These works often emerge while he is directing a theatre or opera production, another field to which he devotes his energies. I am not me, the horse is not mine, William Kentridge’s solo exhibition at Bozar, offers a comprehensive overview of his oeuvre from the early 1980s to the present day. Several of his major stage productions receive special attention. The exhibition highlights the performative and collaborative nature of Kentridge’s practice, in which he allows art to evolve into a space for political inquiry, historical reckoning and poetic transformation.
William Kentridge will take over one of Bozar’s major exhibition spaces, create site-specific works, and curate a rich, multidisciplinary programme. This is by no means the first time we have welcomed Kentridge to Brussels. He has a long-standing connection with the city, where he premiered his first opera (Faustus in Africa! 1995), and where Bozar presented his first solo exhibition in Europe in 1998.

From 12 September 2026, Genesis, an immersive light and sound experience, will transform the Church of Our Lady of Victories at the Sablon in Brussels. Following presentations in several major European cities, the experience brings together light, music and monumental projections in one of Brussels’ most iconic heritage sites.
Genesis finds a striking home in the Church of Our Lady of Victories at the Sablon, one of Belgium’s finest examples of Brabantine Gothic architecture. The centuries-old church provides a remarkable setting for the experience, as light, music and projections interact with the architecture, revealing its monumental spaces in a whole new light. Over 30 minutes, the audience follows the seven days of Creation as recounted in the Book of Genesis. From the creation of light to the emergence of humankind, the spectacle traces the creation of the heavens and the earth, the seas, the stars, plants and animals. A soundtrack combining classical music with contemporary compositions adds to the poetic and contemplative character of Genesis, creating an immersive experience in which the architecture, music and imagery come together.

They were friends before the world went to war.
Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg once worked closely to unlock the secrets of the atom. Then war placed them on opposite sides. It’s 1941. Heisenberg visits Nazi-occupied Copenhagen to meet his former mentor, Bohr, and wife, Margrethe. What passed between them has never been agreed upon. As the three revisit that fateful evening, memories clash, motives are questioned, and certainty proves elusive.
Starring Eva Fontaine (Amandaland, BBC), Peter Hald (The Bridge, SVT/DR), and Manuel Klein (War Horse, National Theatre), Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning play Copenhagen returns one of the greatest mysteries of the Second World War: Why did Heisenberg come?

Through staged photographs, historical references, clothing, and symbolic gestures, photographer Pamela Tulizo invites you to approach the history of slavery in a different way—not just through maps, dates, and statistics, but also through the voices, memories, and stories of the women who resisted it. She brings African women out of obscurity—women full of strength and courage.
Vrije Universiteit Brussel and De Markten invite teachers, school classes, and the general public to Pamela Tulizo’s exhibition MABABU. Pamela Tulizo is a Congolese photographer based in Goma. In her exhibition MABABU, she explores the power of representation: who is depicted, in what way, and what can images mean to those who rarely see themselves reflected with dignity?
New role models
Instead of victims, we see women taking action—with presence, beauty, pride, and strength. By presenting them as powerful and inspiring role models, the exhibition invites you to reflect on gender equality, humanistic values, and the courage to stand up against injustice.
MABABU is both a tribute and an invitation—to question history, acknowledge forgotten stories, and envision new role models.
The exhibition features photographic work, specially designed dresses, and a behind-the-scenes film about the artistic process in Goma.
MABABU – Spirit of the Ancestors is a VUB Cultural Diplomacy project developed with the support and collaboration of ULB, BrIAS, VLIR, Enough Room for Space, DeMens.Nu, De Markten, VISU VUB Research Group, Stad Brussel, Humanistisch Verbond, Enable, Kuumba VZW.

"Airborne 44" by Philippe Jarbinet
"Airborne 44" is certainlu one of the finest graphic novel series dedicated to the Second World War. Champaka presents an selection of his original pages from "Airborne 44" books, alongside illustrations and preliminary sketches. It is an opportunity to pay tribute to Jarbinet, an artist who skilfully upholds the tradition of classic realistic comics while infusing them with a vital modern touch.
Since 2009, "Airborne 44" has established itself as the finest graphic novel series dedicated to the Second World War. In it, Philippe Jarbinet chronicles the often chaotic advance of a US unit from the D-Day landings on June 6th to the Battle of the Bulge. Far from a mere fascination with "militaria," Jarbinet imbues his stories with a sense of universality. Each narrative unfolds as a two-part story—an ideal format for setting the stakes and exploring the characters' inner lives.
Five story arcs spanning ten albums have been released to date, along with the first volume of the sixth arc in 2025. Jarbinet frequently explores unexpected themes, such as the Holocaust and racism within US ranks. Throughout the series, he achieves excellence in every respect: from the flawless artwork and effective visual storytelling to the remarkable direct colouring and exemplary historical accuracy. Not to mention the depth of humanity he brings to every one of his characters.
Galerie Champaka presents an exceptional selection of his original pages and cover art from the entire "Airborne 44" series, alongside previously unseen illustrations and preliminary sketches. It is an opportunity to pay tribute to an artist who skilfully upholds the tradition of classic realistic comics while infusing them with a vital modern touch.

Val Saint-Lambert & Design
In 1826, François Kemlin and Auguste Lelièvre founded the public limited company ‘Verreries et Établissements du Val Saint-Lambert’ in Seraing. The glassworks quickly benefited from considerable investment, which promoted technical progress, the growth of exports and the promotion of a young national industry. In 1879, they became Cristalleries du Val Saint-Lambert, a key player that successively bought up several glassworks and, between 1880 and 1914, enjoyed a real golden age: more than 5,000 workers, outlets all over the world and a reputation consolidated by prestigious participations in the World’s Fairs, from 1894 in Antwerp to 1925 in Paris. Throughout its existence, Val Saint-Lambert has successfully reinvented itself, navigating the Art Nouveau era, the 1930s and the post-war period by collaborating with renowned artists and designers: Léon Ledru (1855–1926), the Muller brothers (Henri Muller, 1868–1936; Désiré Muller, 1877–1952; Eugène Muller, 1883–1914), Charles Graffart (1893–1967), René Delvenne (1901–1968), Yan Zoritchak (born in 1944) and Philippe Starck (born in 1949).
In 2026, Cristalleries will celebrate its bicentenary. To mark this anniversary, the Design Museum Brussels is joining forces with several museums and scientific institutions to highlight this jewel of Belgian industrial heritage and creativity. In collaboration with the Charleroi Glass Museum and curated by Catherine Thomas and Anne Vanlatum, the exhibition Val Saint-Lambert & Design at the Design Museum Brussels is dedicated to the creative output of Val Saint-Lambert from the 1958 World’s Fair to the early 2000s, a period that witnessed an unprecedented creative renewal. It embodies Val Saint-Lambert’s desire to preserve craftsmanship while bringing it into the modern era and engaging in constant dialogue with design. In line with the American Studio Glass movement, it opened its doors to international artists and designers who, alongside the crystal factory’s master glassmakers, experimented with new forms and pushed the boundaries of creation. Crystal, a material that symbolises artisanal excellence, became the medium for bold creations, combining traditional know-how with aesthetic innovations. Created in 1989 under the impetus of director Patrick Depuydt, the Crystal Studio marked a decisive step in the history of Val Saint-Lambert.
Through this joint exhibition, the Design Museum Brussels and the Charleroi Glass Museum invite their visitors to discover the Crystal Studio, a founding chapter in the contemporary history of glass, reflecting the dynamism, the innovation and the international influence of the Cristalleries du Val Saint-Lambert.

Smithsonian Journey into deep space
Smithsonian Journey into deep space takes audiences on a journey to the far reaches of the Universe, right from the heart of Brussels at Tour & Taxis. Developed in collaboration with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), a research centre founded in 1890, the immersive experience draws on decades of astronomical research to explore stars, galaxies, exoplanets and black holes.
The exhibition features observations made by some of the world’s leading space observatories, including the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes and the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Through scientific data and discoveries, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the life cycle of stars, the formation of galaxies, worlds beyond our solar system and some of the most extreme phenomena in the cosmos.
Set within a 3D environment, the experience takes visitors among representations of thousands of galaxies, across the Milky Way and towards the Sun, where they can observe its activity up close. Along the way, they encounter exoplanets with extreme conditions, a star nearing the end of its life and the edge of a supermassive black hole. By bringing these distant worlds and phenomena into an immersive setting, the experience offers a tangible sense of the vast scale and extraordinary diversity of the Universe, while making some of the most complex astronomical phenomena easier to understand from an Earth-based perspective.

The 2025–2026 Master’s students at ESA Saint-Luc are exhibiting the work they created during their residency
Every year, young artists complete their training in comic art with a project that marks the culmination of several years of research, experimentation and creative work. This exhibition brings together the work of Master’s 2 students from the École supérieure des Arts Saint-Luc in Brussels, produced during their residency at the Comic Art Museum.
For five months, the Comic Art Museum hosted the students in residence at the Maison Marc Sleen. This residency enabled the students to experience life in a studio, build a sense of community, and develop their final-year projects whilst already having one foot outside the school.
By opening its workspaces to these future professionals, the museum reaffirms its commitment to supporting contemporary creativity and nurturing emerging talent. This exhibition offers a glimpse into the richness of the visual and narrative styles currently shaping the young comics scene, whilst introducing readers to comic creators whose first books are set to be published in the coming years.

DRAWING THE STAGE - Women Set Designers 1927–2026
Presented from 24 September to 23 October 2026 at ENSAV La Cambre, as part of HerStories and La Cambre’s centenary celebrations, the exhibition “Drawing the Stage – Women Set Designers 1927–2026” highlights the essential contribution of women set designers to the history of the performing arts in Belgium, from 1927 to the present day.
Echoing the history of La Cambre, the first art and design school in Brussels to open its doors to women in 1927, the exhibition explores scenography through the lens of gender. In this context, “Drawing the Stage – Women Set Designers 1927–2026” takes the form of a manifesto exhibition in which curator Annabel Vergne brings together historical documents and interviews conducted between 2023 and 2025 by Milena Forest and Clémence Thiery with contemporary women set designers.
The exhibition brings together historical archives, models, drawings, photographs, working objects and audio interviews, revealing the richness and diversity of scenographic practices over almost a century. It creates a dialogue between historical figures represented in the archives of La Cambre, Kanal Architecture Brussels, the Archives & Museum of Literature, and La Monnaie Theatre, and contemporary set designers whose testimonies provide insight into the realities of the profession today.
By bringing together different generations and periods, the exhibition reveals both the continuities and transformations within the profession, as well as the issues that continue to shape it: invisibility, structural inequalities, the balance between creative work and family life, but also artistic commitment, collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Their stories enter into dialogue with the archives of figures who have shaped the history of scenography and the performing arts in Belgium, including Suzanne Fabry, Marguerite Acarin, known as Akarova, Nany Renkin and Suzanne Wauters. The exhibition also highlights careers connected to the history of La Cambre through the work of Elisabeth Ivanovsky and Marie-Luce Bonfanti, whose trajectories reflect the pioneering role played by the school in training women artists and creators.
Eleven themes, directly inspired by the words and experiences of the set designers interviewed, structure the exhibition. These include Training, I Am a Swiss Army Knife, I Need to Make in Order to Think, This Is How You Make a Set Designer Disappear, Every Scenography Contributes to the Staging, and Archiving.
Reflecting this diversity of experiences and voices, the exhibition unfolds as a series of thematic islands, inviting visitors to explore freely. With no imposed route or strict chronology, visitors are encouraged to move between archives, models and testimonies, creating their own connections between different periods, practices and experiences.
Together, these archives, testimonies and productions contribute to a broader history of scenography and help build a still largely overlooked women’s cultural heritage. “Drawing the Stage – Women Set Designers 1927–2026” calls for the creation of a genuine heritage of women’s contributions to scenography in Belgium. By encouraging the preservation of archives and the recognition of these works, the exhibition contributes to writing a more balanced and inclusive history of the arts.
Curated by Annabel Vergne and with exhibition design by Milena Forest, “Drawing the Stage – Women Set Designers 1927–2026” is conceived and produced by Écarlate la compagnie and the FAME Festival, with the support of AML and FWB, as part of the Collectives of Associations for the Representation of Women in Culture.
“Drawing the Stage – Women Set Designers 1927–2026” features testimonies from contemporary set and costume designers including Sandrine Clark, Aurélie Deloche, Claire Farah, Christine Flasschoen, Anne Guilleray, Maggy Jacot, Zouzou Leyens, Christine Mobers, Marie Szersnovitcz, Anna Terrien and Sabine Theunissen.

Jean Brusselmans
Painter by Nature
Bozar presents a major retrospective of the painter Jean Brusselmans (1884-1953), the first comprehensive exhibition of his work since 1980. The exhibition also highlights Brusselmans' decorative commissions for the theatre, including the monumental sets he designed for the first French-language production of the opera Erwartung by Arnold Schoenberg at the Centre for Fine Arts in 1936. These lost stage designs are brought back to life by the contemporary Belgian painter Kristof Santy (b. 1987), who frequently draws inspiration from Brusselmans in his own work.

Icons, 20 years Designer of the Year
In 2006, the first “Designer of the Year” award was presented in Belgium. The prize was originally established by the Interieur Biennale and the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend, and was awarded that year to Brussels-based designer Alain Berteau. Over the years, various partners joined the initiative, and it grew into a well-established reference in the Belgian design landscape.
Twenty years later, the list of laureates reads as a best-of-the-best of what the country has to offer in contemporary design: from ceramic designers and silversmiths to product and lighting designers. Concepts such as innovation, originality, and ecology are often central to their work. The list includes names such as Muller Van Severen, Alain Gilles, Nedda El-Asmar, Julien Renault, and Linde Freya Tangelder. On the occasion of the 20th edition of the title, all twenty names come together in an exhibition at MAD Brussels, on view from 1 October to 12 December.

Rather than presenting a singular authorial position, at Komplot The LetterS̷ pace Department operates as guest and host at once, re-membering the works of close friends and kindred spirits in order to compose its first solo exhibition as one body of work. At the start of s̶u̶j̶e̶t̶ lies the discovery of foundling tokens preserved in the archives of the CPAS/OCMW of Brussels. Left with infants placed in foundling drawers between the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, cards, devotional prints and pieces of cloth were often divided in two. One half remained with the child, the other with the parent, each irregular edge preserving the possibility of a future reunion.
Subjectivity emerges in this space: not as a unified whole, but as something split, addressed and assembled through relations, voices and acts of enunciation. s̶u̶j̶e̶t̶, takes this split and the bar as a working principle, to make visible what the division puts into relation. A word transforms into an image when barred and a line becomes a signature once it's crossed out by another.
Founded in 2022, The LetterS̷ pace Department (TLSD) is an artistic entity working across a variety of spaces, with language as a matter of failure and a particular interest in the interstices, lapses and ellipses. It develops minor models of resistance through parasitic strategies and by exploring the conditions and environments in which it operates. For s̶u̶j̶e̶t̶, these strategies take the form of an exhibition, a publication and a public programme.

LOUSTAL. Le temps suspendu
From 11 September to 24 October 2026, the Huberty & Breyne Brussels | Châtelain gallery is hosting a new exhibition dedicated to the work of Jacques de Loustal, a key figure in the world of contemporary drawing and illustration. This unique collection of paintings, charcoal drawings, illustrations, sketches and reverse-glass paintings highlights the remarkable coherence of a body of work that spans a whole range of techniques while retaining a strong sense of identity. The exhibition includes a conversation with Georges Simenon, a book dedicated to Loustal's charcoal drawings and a number of recent creations, and invites visitors to step into the singular world of an artist who has come to be seen as one of the great masters of atmosphere.
Loustal's world is unique and instantly recognisable thanks to its quietly atmospheric scenes and images of journeys taken, its bars, hotels, ports, solitary figures and darkened streets? Over the years, the artist has assembled a cohesive body of work while employing a range of techniques and formats. Whether executed in charcoal or ink, watercolour or oils, on glass, paper or canvas, his works succeed in transporting the viewer to another reality.

Nicolas Delprat - 'Humming the World'
In Humming the World, Hans Theys explores how Nicolas Delprat intertwines memory, light and painting through a subtle balance of precision and freedom. Rather than reproducing images, his works evoke them through illusion, minimal gestures and a quiet dialogue with art history, inviting viewers to complete the narrative through their own imagination.
Hans Theys - curator
Humming the world
On the work of Nicolas Delprat
I’d like to begin this text with a strange question. If the work of Nicolas Delprat (born 1972) didn’t speak about art history and the production of artworks—which it certainly does—what would it tell us? What story is being concealed here?
“I’m fascinated by memory,” he says, “for example, when it invents images. In my memory, my favourite scene in Taxi Driver was the moment Travis Bickle shaves his head. But when I recently rewatched the film, it turns out this scene doesn’t exist at all. You see Bickle running up the stairs to his apartment and returning with his head shaved. Scorsese has employed an ellipsis: the actual action isn’t visible and is only suggested. I hope to do something similar with my work. It often starts from things seen, but I don’t want to recreate them. I use them as starting points for minimal work that can evoke stories or images in the viewer.”
This means we are free. But we can also fantasise about the unspoken images that Delprat, consciously or unconsciously, wants to evoke. The nonexistent scene in which Bickle shaves his head is very physical, martial, and radical. The result is an early Lucio Fontana; a bristly Onement by Barnett Newman.
However, if we look at Delprat’s way of working, we find a different underlying narrative—one that says something about painting, but also about action, life, and thought. In summary, we can say that he paints in two ways: very meticulously and very freely. Between these two actions lies a vast, unexplored zone, a field of untapped possibilities. This creates paintings in which this choice can be read. They tell us something about painting, but also about being. Below, I will say more about the different ways of painting and the importance of meta-paintings. But first, I want to say something about this way of being.
If we view the painting as the trace of an action, we encounter a person who works very cautiously and attentively—like Agnes Martin, for example: slowly, repetitively, meditatively. And then we see drips, splatters, and large traces of brushstrokes, which reveal various forms of letting go. The drips have something sensual and tactile; the splatters and brushstrokes evoke a more far-reaching physicality: an eruption, a release, or a broad arm movement. Here too, we discover the body, as we did with Bickle, almost hidden from view by an ellipsis. Simultaneously, we read a story of relinquished control, of growing trust and self-confidence, of restraint and decisiveness.
With the exception of one series (the Dynamique paintings on paper, created during a residency when canvas was out of reach), all of Delprat’s works begin with a smooth, white polyester canvas that is first primed with a white base coat and then completely or partially covered with a matte black acrylic paint applied with a spray gun. The figures or optical effects (fluorescent light tubes in the ‘Dan' series, doorways in the ‘James’ series) are created by layering numerous layers of diluted acrylic paint over this black. Only after the fortieth layer do these additions become visible; usually, around sixty layers are applied. Thus, light is reclaimed from the black. It is an illusion, a painterly magic trick.
Most optical effects are created this way: slowly, applied with a small brush. A stunning example of this can be found in the paintings featuring a representation of chicken wire. The ‘chicken wire’ is the trace of an overpainted black background (created by spraying lighter colours over actual chicken wire laid over the canvas). Where the wire is no longer visible, or where it appears fainter, it has been painted over by dabbing with a very small brush.
The constantly evolving ‘Dan’ and ‘James’ series, whose titles refer to the minimalist light sculptures of Dan Flavin and James Turrell, are based on memories of experiences with these sculptures. The Dan series evokes the image of luminous fluorescent tubes, each time in a different composition. Turrell worked with sunlight, Flavin with artificial light. In Delprat’s paintings, we don’t see real light, of course, but a reconstruction of a memory—the creation of an illusion.
The beauty of the pairing of meticulous and more decisive, rapid actions is that they create a pictorial space that seems to unfold at different depths. The gradients and other atmospheric backgrounds are pushed into a fictional background by actions that seem to take place in the foreground: splashes of paint thrown next to the canvas, broad traces of paint (applied with a wide, thin brush), or a fake passe-partout painted at the end with black acrylic paint. The absence of “mixed forms” between the meticulous and the robust makes this pictorial depth highly legible, meaning that the painting also tells us something about the composition of paintings. Another way to do this is by leaving traces of tape.
The absence of perspectivisch depth or volume modulation reminds us of the American abstract expressionists (Newman, Reinhardt, Rothko, Pollock), but also of Supports/Surfaces and BMPT. The pictorial space created by differences in texture and colour intensity is reminiscent of the early watercolours of Soulages or the twirling paintings of Christopher Wool. The overpainting of “expressive” elements such as drips is reminiscent of Hans Hartung. Together, these painters form the interlocutors with whom Delprat converses.
I enjoy being in this kind of company. There’s not much noise. There’s whispering. There’s experimentation. There’s fiddling, struggling, cursing, and enjoying. It’s a very solitary activity, but the silent conversation with other painters, sculptors, filmmakers, and writers simultaneously alleviates this loneliness. In the stillness, we merge with the others.
A magic trick also takes place—a secret exchange. The whole world, with all its heaviness, volume, murmur, movement, desire, and transience, is conjured away, yet evoked in a gentle or decisive gesture. In a soft singing, a humming of existence. (For what do we call a song without words, without meaning-distinguishing sounds, without recognisable images?)
My favourite paintings are the dynamic “landscapes”. I love their atmospheric, seemingly dissolving backgrounds and the almost uncontrollable splashes that seem to play out in the foreground. Once the background is finished, Delprat throws a large blob of paint next to the painting in such a way that the splashes appear to point in a single direction, creating an illusion of movement. We know that Bacon also finished paintings by throwing a dab of white paint on to them, which gives the whole scene a new depth. The art critic David Sylvester asks Bacon whether his cleaning lady could throw the paint in his place. Bacon confirms. Then Sylvester asks if he himself could throw the paint. “No, you couldn’t,” Bacon replies. At least, that’s how I remember it. But upon rereading the interviews, I couldn’t find this passage. I probably made it up.

Taiwan New Cinema
Developed as part of Michael Lin’s exhibition, Tea Towels and Serviettes, at La Loge, this film programme expands on the Taiwan New Cinema. The movement emerged in the 1980s during a period of significant social and political transformation in Taiwan, as martial law ended and rapid economic growth reshaped the country.
Developed as part of Michael Lin’s exhibition, Tea Towels and Serviettes, at La Loge, this film programme expands on an important reference in the artist’s practice: Taiwan New Cinema.
The movement emerged in the 1980s during a period of significant social and political transformation in Taiwan, as martial law ended and rapid economic growth reshaped the country. As Taiwan’s cities changed over time, the ways people related to one another also evolved, and ideas of “home” began to be redefined, often in relation to urban life. Filmmakers turned their attention to this everyday life, exploring changing relationships between people, the transformation of rural and urban environments, and the emergence of a new middle class. In this context, the films presented in this programme trace a broader genealogy of image-making that connects personal and collective histories to shifting political, social, and cultural realities.
In this programme, Michael Lin invites the Taiwanese collective P.M.S., long engaged with the intersecting discourses of identity, gender, and Indigeneity, to initiate a dialogue through a complementary selection of documentaries and fiction films. In response to Lin’s interest in everyday life and cultural contexts, P.M.S.’s selection brings forward realities and narratives that have coexisted since the 1980s yet have remained marginalised within cinema, moving between the grand currents of the era and the intimate scale of everyday life.
P.M.S. is a Taiwanese collective composed of Posak Jodian, Manman, and Sophie Chen. The name P.M.S. combines the first syllables of their names while also referencing the English acronym for “Premenstrual Syndrome”, reflecting their critical engagement with dominant historical narratives. They also playfully reinterpret it as “Probably Meaning Something”, underscoring their openended and reflective approach to questioning established social and cultural frameworks. Since 2022, the three members have worked collectively on projects exploring the intersections of Indigenous perspectives, gender, and contemporary social issues. They have curated film programmes and screenings across Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan. Their practice frequently engages with the betel nut as both a cultural symbol and a connective thread, bringing communities together, fostering translocal solidarities among women, and opening space for alternative narratives – one chew at a time.
Practical Information :
15.10–03.12.26, 19:00
All screenings take place at La Loge, except on 12.11, when a special screening will take place at Cinema Galeries, followed by a conversation with Michael Lin and P.M.S.

"FIAT LUX!" – A Dive into the Multiverse of Artist Zariel
FIAT LUX - Latin for "let there be light"—is the title of ZARIEL’s first solo exhibition. His paintings and drawings are on display in Brussels. The artist acts as a conduit to another moment in time—the UPDN, or "Parallel Universe to Our Own"—and it is precisely there that he invites you.
Come and immerse yourself in a Parallel Universe to Our Own—the Multiverse of artist Zariel!
Zariel is a visual artist, art director, illustrator, and graphic designer based in Paris, specializing in science fiction. Trained in printing and desktop publishing from the age of sixteen, he retains a deep attachment to paper and print finishing—a connection that infuses his entire practice, even when it ventures into the digital realm. He has illustrated over a hundred book covers and directed various publications and exhibitions, including the collector’s edition of La Horde du Contrevent for La Volte. He frequently collaborates with publishing houses, brands, and musicians, working across both print and moving image media.
Since 2024, he has been developing UPDN (Univers Parallèle Du Nôtre / Parallel Universe to Our Own), an empathetic multiverse where fiction precedes science and where the artist constructs a system of thought disguised as pop mythology.
FIAT LUX, presented at the ZazafromBrussels gallery, represents the latest journey into this world.
FIAT LUX brings together two parallel universes within a single space: on one side, The Dogmatic— a series of colorful, fantastical, pop-style stained-glass works inspired by Jamie Hewlett; on the other, The Emotional — figures in black and gold, driven by doubt rather than demonstration, in a tribute to Alberto Breccia.
Fiat Lux does not merely recount a world; it proposes one, leaving you to declare your own...

Paradise Lost
Discover Alphonse Balat, architect to the king and mentor to Victor Horta
Step into a world where glass and iron gave shape to a dream: a personal Garden of Eden. Paradise Lost? takes you back to the 19th century, an era of discovery, exotic plants and visionary architecture.
Yesterday meets today
The focus is on Alphonse Balat, master of light and transparency, glass and metal, and an inspiration to figures such as Victor Horta. His conservatories and pavilions were not only technical masterpieces, but also gateways to a new understanding of nature and beauty.
At the same time, the exhibition looks to the future: have we lost our connection with nature, or are we rediscovering it today? And what does that mean for the way we build, preserve and admire?
Let yourself be carried away by art, architecture and botanical imagination, alongside artists such as François Schuiten, Hans Soenen and Piet Bekaert+, and Studio Bast Smets, and discover whether paradise is truly lost, or simply being brought back to life.

Art History : Bordalo2, Flog, Insane51, Leon Keer, Levalet, Murmure, Tamara Alves, Vuk Vidor, YZ

Korean Traditional Painting in Alter-age; Pure and Hybrid
This exhibition brings together historical masterpieces of Korean painting as well as works by four contemporary Korean artists. Opening in Brussels on September 17, the exhibition explores how Hangukhwa (traditional Korean painting) continues to be reinterpreted and transformed today.
Historical masterpieces ranging from the late Joseon period to the 20th century are presented alongside contemporary creations by four Korean artists: Jean Song, Choe Sooryeon, Choi Haeri, and Hwang Kyumin.
KOREAN PAINTING: Tradition Meets the Present
At the heart of the exhibition is muninhwa, or Korean literati painting, a tradition rooted in the spirit of the seonbi ("literati scholar"). Rather than treating tradition as something frozen in the past, the exhibition explores how these established artistic practices are learned, repeated, and reinterpreted within modern temporalities.
The exhibition features masterpieces from the collections of the Ilmin Museum of Art and the Ilmin Cultural Foundation, highlighting nine historical figures—Jeong Seon, Yi Gwangsa, Kang Sehwang, Kim Jeonghui, Jang Seungeop, An Jungsik, Lee Sangbeom, No Soohyeon, and Pak Nosoo—alongside four contemporary artists. Highlights of the exhibition include Calligraphy and Paintings of Kang Sehwang (1789) and Flower and Bird (c. 1860) by Jang Seungeop.
COPY, REINTERPRET, CREATE
A key concept of the exhibition stems from three traditional methodologies of learning and artistic creation: mo (模, to copy), im (臨, to study and imitate), and bang (倣, to adapt).
Contemporary artists Jean Song, Choe Sooryeon, Choi Haeri, and Hwang Kyumin revisit these fundamental principles from a modern perspective. By recombining these classic methods, they place traditional Korean visual practices into a dynamic dialogue with contemporary sensibilities and materials.
Visitors will be able to discover a variety of works, ranging from the ink painting The First Window (2023) by Jean Song and Practice for Decorating a Shrine (2026) by Choe Sooryeon, to the oil painting Water Column with Liliums (2022) by Choi Haeri and Mo-Im-Bang (The Gathering Room): copy, paint, and stroke (2026) by Hwang Kyumin.
PURE AND HYBRID: What Makes a Tradition?
The subtitle Pure and Hybrid raises broader questions about the evolution of "tradition". The term Hangukhwa ("Korean painting") carries a complex modern history, having emerged during the post-liberation period to construct a decolonized artistic identity following Japanese colonial rule. Rather than asserting a single "pure" origin, Hangukhwa has continuously evolved through constant dialogue with contemporary art. The exhibition approaches tradition not as a frozen relic, but as a living and dynamic cultural system, permanently shaped by hybridity and active reinterpretation.
KOREAN PAINTING, REDRAWN IN BRUSSELS
Presented as part of "2026 Touring K-Arts", a public-private initiative aimed at introducing Korean arts to an international audience, the exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), Arts Council Korea, and Hyundai Sungwoo Holdings.
The Korean Cultural Center to Belgium and the EU, in collaboration with the Ilmin Museum of Art, is pleased to present the exhibition "Korean Traditional Painting in Alter-age: Pure and Hybrid".

Augusta Gallery presents Soft Assemblies, an exhibition highlighting innovative techniques of joining, weaving, and braiding. Through research and experimentation, six European designers interlace reused and natural elements to create new forms and transform spaces.
For this exhibition, Agnieszka Mazur crafts sculptural lamps and objects from discarded sand, inspired by the traditional sandcastles on the beaches of Zeeland. The collaboration between Amandine David and Esmé Hofman explores contrasts by combining digital techniques and basketry to create sculptural containers. Textile designers Juliette Berthonneau and Justine Gaignault experiment with textures, juxtaposing dense patterns with translucent areas as they felt linen and wool weaves into decorative and functional textiles. Laure Kasiers unveils new wall rugs featuring abstract motifs, employing a technique she developed using interlaced strips of wool and linen.
The exhibition explores a new facet of the transformation of materials through connections, intertwining, and the rhythm of successive layers.

Camille Pennequin, Colorful Escapes
Camille Pennequin is a painter based in Brussels. Havind graduated in graphic design from the University of the Arts London (UAL Camberwell) and subsequently in jewellery design from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, she has developed a visual art practice enriched by the precision of drawing, the rigour of craftsmanship and the power of colour.
Camille Pennequin’s world invites us to pause time and let our minds wander. Drawing inspiration from her travels, the artist goes beyond simply depicting the landscape to capture its emotion, light and atmosphere: the enchanting reflections of Venice, the brightness of Menorca and the mystery of Calabria all become fragments of memory.
On the canvas, gouache and oil pastels intertwine in a tactile interplay of textures and reliefs, brought to life by free-flowing brushstrokes and vibrant colours. The energy of the moment blends with memory, making each work a poetic bridge between recollection and wonder.

And yet, a shared need: to observe the human spirit.

"Human Geography" Exhibition – Baudoin Lotin and Daniel Boreux
Two photographers. Two journeys. Two sensibilities.
And yet, a shared need: to observe the human experience.
For over fifty years, Baudoin Lotin has traveled the world with a camera, seemingly seeking out human encounters rather than specific events. His images focus on gestures, faces, bodies, silences, and the ordinary scenes that—better than any long-winded explanation—tell the stories of men and women. It is a deeply human, attentive, and committed form of photography, where the distance between the observer and the observed tends to vanish.
Daniel Boreux is a general practitioner and... a photographer.
He, too, photographs the human experience, but with a more intimate and contemplative approach.
His images often seem to capture things in their primal simplicity: a body, a presence, a posture, a fragment of life. His gaze rests quietly, paying special attention to what might easily go unnoticed.
Their photographs do not tell the same stories.
They are not taken from the same vantage point.
But they look in the same direction.
Exhibition from October 1 to November 29.

"20 ans d'une histoire en mouvement" Géopolis/MYOP
From September 2 to November 1, 2026, the Géopolis team is delighted to present an exhibition created in collaboration with the Myop collective, marking the 20th anniversary of this exceptional group of photographers who have been traveling the world for 20 years to document its progress.
This exhibition of 200 photographs is both a deep dive into their work and a journey through world history.
Introduction to the collective
This exhibition is a collection left to run wild, open to every wind. Twenty years of images bloom here, intertwine, spilling over the well-guarded borders of the past to invade the present. They are what we saw. What seized us. What demanded to be shown. Faces, dramas, joys. Everything the whirlwind of the world sweeps up and lays before our restless eyes.
Each vision will have lasted only a brief instant. But that fraction of a second, made eternal in a photograph, holds within it its entire history. It bears witness. It whispers, it cries out. It calls us to account for its existence and compels us to face it as it is, without looking away.
We, the photographers of MYOP, hold to this commitment to go out and meet the world, to listen to its stories, to relate its joys, its sufferings, its poetry. Against the algorithmic fever that falsifies reality, we set the complexity of the living, the richness of encounters, the energy of long time.
We believe in the power of images — insofar as they carry us toward others, open up the field of our curiosity, our reflection, our emotions. We believe in the power of testimony, in the sensitive imprint of the lives unfolding around us. We want to gather them, to tell their share of shadow and light. To pay tribute to them at times, to do them justice where we can.
This work embraces the entire shape of life; it never stops. New images are already being born. The exhibition will keep growing. As long as one of us still stands there.

Romina Remmo "Au seuil de l'Intime"
In the exhibition “The edge of the Intimate", Romina Remmo explores transitional spaces through organic forms. The boundary between the living body and matter prompts the viewer to draw nearer and then to cross a threshold that is as much physical as it is sensory. The artist creates objects, paints, photographs and works with bobbin lace, whose openwork structure becomes a metaphor for the skin. She explores the mechanisms of fascination, but also of rejection. The delicacy of the fabric, combined with the coldness of sharp materials such as hooks, pins and needles, opens up an ambivalent space – a place of opposing forces where attraction and repulsion coexist. This exhibition is an invitation to engage with the deeply unsettling fragility of the human condition.

This spring, the Spilliaert Room brings to light a figure who long remained in the shadows: Germaine Rimbout (1894–1973), a Brussels-based artist with a singular trajectory.
Influenced by Cubism and Fauvism, her work evolved after the Second World War toward a freer abstraction and an increasingly daring colour palette.
An exhibition driven as much by the strength of the work as by the personality of the artist. As a female creator in a world still largely dominated by men at the time, she succeeded in forging her own path.
Her artistic journey reflects the tensions and aspirations of an era.
In collaboration with KBR
Since 21 May 2025, the Spilliaert Room has immersed visitors in the poetic and mysterious world of the Belgian illustrator and draughtsman. This new space also hosts temporary presentations of works on paper and honours the exceptional contribution of Spilliaert, whose work enters into dialogue with that of other artists from the collections.

Discover around thirty of these pieces, which bear witness to everyday life and the history of the Marolles district during the interwar period.
Kurt Peiser (1887–1962), takes an honest yet sensitive view of his adopted home city of Brussels. He walks around the capital, paying special attention to the Marolles. In this way he becomes a uniquely close observer of that neighbourhood. Through his engravings and drawings, the artist captures the everyday spirit of its narrow streets, bustling cul-de-sacs and the people living in the shadow of the Palace of Justice. He immortalises the men and women he meets in the taverns along the Rue Haute and in the public spaces. Rejecting all forms of sentimentalised misery, Kurt Peiser’s portraits reveal the dignity, inner lives and humanity of the people who make up the fabric of this neighbourhood. A century later, his works still have the power to move us.
In 2025, the Brussels City Museum acquired a collection of 79 works by Kurt Peiser. Created mainly in the 1920s, around thirty of them are on display at the Brussels City Museum. This major acquisition allows the museum to continue with its mission: to tell the story of Brussels in all its richness and highlight the lives of the men and women who have lived in the city, shaping it and giving it life over the years.

In the autumn of 2026, La Loge presents a new work of Michael Lin, an influential artist from a generation of Taiwanese practitioners who gained international prominence in the 1990s and 2000s. Michael Lin (1964) lives and works between Taipei and Brussels. This exhibition marks his first solo presentation in Belgium. Lin will create a large-scale, site-specific installation. He is known for his vivid, expansive works that draw on traditional Taiwanese textile patterns. His practice operates at the intersection of visual art, design, and craft, and has been widely presented in leading biennials and international museum exhibitions.

Trouble Parfait
Two generations, two worlds, two approaches and a multitude of materials come together in dialogue in Hectare’s new exhibition.
A regular at the gallery since Miroir Miroir with his reworkings of camera lenses, Jiro Kamata (b. 1978, Hirosaki, Japan – lives and works in Munich) propels them into new dimensions. These ‘optical gems’, once destined to capture light and preserve memories, now give way to laboratory-grown quartz. The real and the unreal pass through the sensory portal of his Celestial Eyes. Mutations, distortions and reflections take centre stage in a parallel world inspired by astronomy, mythology and spirituality.
Extreme meticulousness and the utmost attention to detail are echoed in the illusions – very different, yet equally fascinating – created by Benedict Haener (b. 1992, lives and works in Lucerne, Switzerland). Under the title Kill your darling, from sandpaper to sugar cubes and sour sweets, the artist reinterprets the everyday, pulverises precious materials, initially devaluing them only to imbue them with new value through unique pieces that are wildly technical and irresistibly playful.
Whilst each of these creators’ approaches embodies a pop aesthetic that is resolutely contemporary, they nonetheless contain a nostalgic or fantastical element woven into their work.
It is at this intersection that the scenographic collaborators of Trouble parfait come into play. Through the speckled ceramic of her photo frames, Léna Babinet (b. 1994, Paris – lives and works in Brussels) creates a disruption. The image is missing; the reflection is absent. What remains is the object – recognisable as ever – and its intimate mystery, its vibrant presence, its familiar strangeness. As if freshly picked, Olga Flór’s (b. 1995, based in Eindhoven) sunflowers capture the fleeting and the shifting at the heart of a boldly impure eternity.

Autoworld 40 Years – Looking back to the future
From 11 September to 13 December, Autoworld will bring back to the museum the crème de la crème of more than 100 temporary exhibitions. From 11 September to 13 December, Autoworld will bring back to the museum the crème de la crème of more than 100 temporary exhibitions. The exhibition will feature cars and motorcycles that have appeared in one of Autoworld’s many past exhibitions and that each have a special link with the history of the museum.
‘Autoworld 40 Years – Looking back to the future’ will not be a classic retrospective, but an eclectic and surprising look back at 40 years of Autoworld. Visitors will discover vehicles ranging from pre-war models to modern supercars, including the Bugatti Type 35, the Lamborghini Miura, the rare Muntz Jet, the unique Toyota 2000GT Targa from James Bond, the “flying” Citroën DS and the Porsche 918.
The latter is coming at the request of the public. In July, Autoworld asked visitors which cars they would like to see again at the museum. The answers were enthusiastic and remarkably diverse, but one thing became clear once again: supercars remain extremely popular. The Porsche 918 clearly stood out as the most requested car. We are therefore delighted to announce its presence.
Each vehicle will be linked to the exhibition in which it was once displayed. The exhibition will also include a wall presenting an overview of all the exhibitions Autoworld has organised over the years. A short video will summarise 40 years of Autoworld through images, moments and memories from the museum’s history.

Museum of museums
Works from the Art et marges museum collection successively transform the spaces in which they are displayed.
A botanical garden, a planetarium, an anthropological cabinet, a folklore museum… these settings unfold before the viewer like a series of temples, each infused with its own atmosphere by the Muses. Is the museum a sacred place?
MUSEUM OF MUSEUMS sets out to dismantle the walls we so often imagine standing between artwork and audience. Through scenographic and educational displays inspired by different museum typologies, and with objects brought out from the reserves, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the exhibition as a total experience.
Amid the Art brut collections — between tissue paper and the scent of popcorn (come and see for yourself!) — works from the contemporary visual arts scene also appear. While the Art et marges museum may delight, for the occasion, in spotting categories everywhere, its true specialty lies in creating dialogue between them.
Seyni Awa Camara, Pierre Bonvoisin, Charlotte Beaudry, Géraldine Beaupère, Bernd & Hilla Becher, Umberto Bergamaschi, Jean-Baptiste Bernadet, Alexandre Bernardi, Pascal Bernier, Ghyslain Bertholon, Anacleto Borghi, Magali Cadelli, Solène Calderon, Alejandro Cardenas, Ignacio Carles Tolra, Pierre Coene, Tony Convey, Georges Counasse, Caroline Dahyot, Michel Dave, Clément Davout, Alain Delaunay...

Art nouveau versus Art Deco? 1850–1950: a century in 31 seats
Dive into a century of revolutions in design and architecture! Between Art Nouveau and modernism, discover 31 iconic chairs revealing the evolutions and continuities that have shaped the way we live.
From June 25, 2026, to January 10, 2027, the Horta Museum presents the exhibition Art Nouveau versus Art Deco? 1850–1950: A Century in 31 Seats. The exhibition features thirty chairs by leading designers, from Victor Horta and Henry van de Velde to Le Corbusier and Marcel Breuer, offering insight into a century of transformation in design and architecture in the Western world. Although Art Nouveau and Art Deco are often seen as opposites, this exhibition brings them into dialogue through the chair, an iconic object in interior architecture. The chair serves as the central thread and illustrates how designers are connected across generations.

In the footsteps of Bart Van Loo and the Burgundians
Bart Van Loo invites you to view one of the most fascinating periods of our history through his eyes: an era in which art and power elevate one another to new heights.
Together with KBR, he has created a remarkable museum route. Here you will discover original watercolours by Jean-Léon Huens, presented alongside exceptional manuscripts, prints and engravings from the KBR collections.
These documents illustrate Bart’s fascination with history and make the world of the Burgundian court tangible. For this route, he wrote texts that capture the Burgundian origins of our shared history.
Continue your discovery in Brussels
Your journey through the Burgundian world does not have to end at the KBR museum. With the podwalk In the footsteps of the Burgundians, Bart Van Loo guides you through Brussels.
Using the VRT PodWalks app, you walk past places where the Burgundian past can still be felt today , from Place Royale, via Hotel Ravenstein and the Nassau Chapel, to the Grand Place and St Michael and St Gudula Cathedral.

In the summer of 2026, the Fashion & Lace Museum invites you to discover the simplicity of clothing. Spanning more than two centuries of history, this new exhibition looks back at moments when clothing leaned towards simplicity, functionality, and naturalness. Often associated with luxury, glamour, and novelty, fashion is revealed here as a mirror of cultural and social change. A theme that, until now, has been little studied.
Simplicites begins at the end of the 18th century. The philosophy of the Enlightenment, along with medical and hygienist discourse, called for a profound reform of the way people dressed. A return to nature manifested itself in a rejection of corrective artifices, new cuts, breathable materials, and an aesthetic vocabulary inspired by Antiquity. The clothing ideal became a reflection of a new lifestyle combining comfort, freedom of the body, and closeness to nature.
The exhibition is divided into six chapters, each highlighting the different aspects of this simplicity. Drawn from history, the pieces shown in these thematic capsules reveal the continuity, resurgence, and paradoxes of this aesthetic. Discover this lesser-known side of fashion history.
