Fourth in the International Lesbians & Gay Association-Europe rankings, Belgium has, for a long time, been committed to the rights and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people. Brussels embodies the committed and festive reflection of this desire: festivals, parties, associations... and a Brussels Pride that brought together more than 200,000 people, and has now been recognised as intangible cultural heritage of the Brussels-Capital Region. The capital has made open-mindedness and acceptance a real way of life, both for its inhabitants and for its visitors.

Brussels Pride has been held in the capital every May since 1996 and opens European Pride season. A political, festive and cultural week with, as a highlight, the Pride festivities that take place on Saturday afternoon. On the agenda, a march that travels through the city and a Pride Village that welcomes associations and bars, not forgetting the different stages where LGBTQIA+ artists and DJs perform for a party that attracts no less than 200,000 people. This celebration has never forgotten its origins: born of a struggle for the defence and respect of the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2024, Brussels Pride was recognised as intangible cultural heritage by the Brussels-Capital Region, becoming only the 2nd Pride in the world (after Amsterdam’s) to receive this official recognition.
