Are you a beer lover? A chocoholic? As you already know, Brussels is an Eldorado for your taste buds. But how about taking the pleasure a step further? Uncover how beer is made or take a stroll through the capital's historic streets to enjoy a tasting experience on a gourmet escapade or treasure hunt. Here are some of our favourites…

A fermenting of cultures

Brussels Beer Project

Born in 2013, Brussels Beer Project quickly opened its doors in the heart of the capital, on rue Antione Dansaert. There's a shop, a bar and of course... a brewery! BBP invites you to visit its barrel cellar to find out how lambics are brewed and how Gueuze is mixed. The 30-minute tour begins with a welcome drink and concludes with a tasting of four of their latest creations.

Brasserie Surréaliste

The building alone is already worth a visit: the Brasserie Surréaliste is housed in a former banana warehouse built in the Art Deco style in 1932. For its design, it called on the genius of Brussels artist Elzo Durt. The brewery also invites you to explore its cellars and immerse yourself in its brewing techniques, a visit that ends with a tasting of three surreal beers, each with a new twist. For those who also fancy a bite to eat, they also offer a Saturday lunchtime tour.

Brasserie de la Senne

A pioneer in craft beers, Brasserie de la Senne began its adventure back in 2002 and set up shop in Brussels in 2007. Initially located in Molenbeek, the brewery later moved onto the historic industrial site of Tour & Taxis and it's the latter that you're invited to visit. A brand-new brewery, with impressive facilities, launched in 2019. A visit to the production side of the brewery to find out how traditional beer is made, with an unmissable commented tasting of four of the brewery's flagship beers.

Cantillon

Alongside the gleaming modern facilities of some breweries or the ultra-sleek aesthetics of others, there remains the family tradition of one of Brussels' historic brewing icons: Cantillon brewery, which houses the Gueuze Museum. Forget modernity and return to simpler, quieter times. Cantillon invites you to visit its family brewery, where lambic is still brewed just as it was when it opened in 1900. Nothing has changed. Tools, machines and production processes are all period features, and the guides share their warmth, their passions and their anecdotes.

A walk with some tasty rewards

Hungry Mary

Using some of the products that (in a way) make Brussels what it is today as a starting point, Hungry Mary offers a tour focusing on beer and chocolate that winds its way through the streets of the old town. The tour includes tastings to better understand the reputation, refinement and quality of these products. As well as satisfying your taste buds, you'll learn more about the city and its history. It's the perfect combination of gastronomy and knowledge. An all-round pleasure.

Brussels Hoppy Tour

Hoppy offers the 1st Trappist treasure hunt through historical Brussels! The aim? To find the bars that will offer you tasters of Belgian beers. The principle is simple. You're given a game booklet, hoppy-coins (which you can exchange for beers in the bars) and off you go. Thanks to the puzzles in the booklet, you'll not only find your way through the cobbled streets of old Brussels, but you'll also learn more about the capital's history.
